Getting star ted 11 2 Inser t the SIM or USIM card with the gold- colour ed contac ts facing down wards. • Do not inser t a memor y card into the SIM car d slot. I f a memor y card happens t o be lodged in the SIM card slot, take the devic e to a Samsung Ser vice Centr e to remov e the memor y card.

Getting star ted 13 Charg ing the batter y Use the charger t o charge the battery before using it f or the first time. A computer can be also used to charge the ba tter y by connecting them via the USB cable. Use only Samsung-appro ved chargers , batteries, and cables.
Getting star ted 14 • The device can be used while it is char ging , but it may take longer to fully char ge the battery . • If the device receiv es an unstable power supply while charging , the touch screen may not function. If this happens, unplug the charger from the devic e.
Getting star ted 15 U sing a memor y card Installing a memor y card Y our device acc epts memor y cards with maximum capacities of 64 GB. Depending on the memor y card manufacturer and type, some memory cards may not be compatible with y our device . • Some memor y cards may not be fully compa tible with the device .
Getting star ted 16 Removing the memor y card Befor e removing the memory card, first unmount it f or safe remo val. On the Home scr een, tap → Settings → Stor age → Unmount SD card . 1 Remove the back c over . 2 Pull out the memory card. 3 Replace the back cov er .
Getting star ted 17 T urning the devic e on and off Pr ess and hold the Po wer button f or a few seconds to turn on the device . When you turn on y our device f or the first time or after per forming a data reset, f ollow the on- screen instructions to set up your devic e.
Getting star ted 18 L ock ing and unlock ing the screen Pr essing the Po wer button turns off the scr een and locks it. Also , the screen turns off and automatically locks if the device is not used f or a specified period.
19 Basics U sing the touch scr een • Do not allow the touch scr een to come int o contact with other electr ical devices . Electrostatic discharges can cause the touch scr een to malfunc tion. • T o av oid damaging the touch scr een, do not tap it with anything sharp or apply ex cessive pr essure to it with your fingertips.
Basics 20 T apping and holding T ap and hold an item or the screen f or more than 2 seconds to access a vailable options. Dragging T o move an it em, tap and hold it and drag it to the target position. Double -tapping Double -tap on a webpage or image to zoom in.
Basics 21 F licking Flick left or right on the Home screen or the A pps screen to see another panel . Flick up or down to scr oll through a webpage or a list of items , such as contacts. Spreading and pinching Spread two fingers apart on a webpage, map , or image to zoom in a part.
Basics 22 Home screen la y out Home screen The Home screen is the starting point for acc essing all of the device’ s featur es. It displays widgets, shortcuts to apps, and mor e. W idgets are small apps that launch specific app functions to provide inf or mation and con venient access on y our Home screen.

Basics 24 Apps scr een The Apps scr een displays ic ons for all apps , including newly installed apps. On the Home screen, tap to open the Apps scr een. T o view other panels, scr oll left or right, or select a screen indicator at the bottom of the scr een.
Basics 25 Indicator ic ons Indicator icons appear on the status bar at the t op of the screen. T he icons listed in the table below are most c ommon. The status bar ma y not appear at the top of the scr een in some apps. T o display the status bar , drag down from the top of the scr een.

Basics 30 Enabling apps On the Apps screen, tap → Show disabled apps , select apps, and then tap Done . Alternativ ely , on the Apps screen, tap Settings → Application manager , scroll to DISABLED , select an app, and then tap Enable . • Hiding apps: H ide apps in the Apps screen only .
Basics 31 Changing the input language T ap → Selec t input languages , and then select the languages to use. If you select two or more languages , you can switch between the input languages b y sliding the space key lef t or right.

P ersonalising 43 Managing folders T o rename a f older , select a folder , and then tap the existing f older name. Enter a new name for the f older and tap Done . T o change the colour of a f older , select a folder , tap , and then select a colour .

P ersonalising 45 Changing the scr een lock method Y ou can change the way that you lock the scr een to prev ent others from accessing y our personal information. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Lock scr een → Screen lock , and then select a screen lock method.

48 Phone Mak ing calls T ap Phone on the Apps screen. T ap Keypad , enter a phone number , and then tap to make a voic e call, or tap to make a video call. Y ou can also make calls to phone numbers listed in Logs , F av ourites , and Con tacts . Acc ess additional options.
Phone 49 Mak ing calls from the fa vourites list Y ou can easily call contac ts that y ou communicate with fr equently by adding them to the fav ourite contacts list. T o add contacts to the fav ourites list, tap Con tacts , select a contact, and then tap .
Phone 50 Receiving calls Answ ering a call When a call comes in, drag outside the large circle . If the call waiting ser vice is activated, another call can be answ ered . Camera 64 P anorama Use this mode to take a phot o composed of many phot os strung together . The devic e identifies the photo with in Galler y . On the Apps screen, tap Camer a → → P anorama . T o get the best shot, follo w these tips: • Move the camera slo wly in one direc tion.
Camera 65 • Metering modes : Selec t a metering method. This determines how light values ar e calculated . Cen tre -w eighted measures backgr ound light in the centre of the scene . Spot measures the light v alue at a specific location. Matrix av erages the entire sc ene.
66 G aller y V iewing phot os or videos V iewing cont ent on the device On the Apps screen, tap Galler y and select an image or a video. Video files sho w the icon on the preview thumbnail . T o hide or show the menu bar and the preview thumbnails , tap the screen.

93 Settings About Settings Use this app to c onfigure the device , set app options, and add accounts . T ap Settings on the Apps screen. WIRELESS AND NE T WORKS Wi - Fi Activate the W i-Fi f eature to connect to a W i-F i net work and acc ess the Internet or other network devices.
Settings 94 Setting Network notification The device can det ect open Wi-F i networks and display an icon on the sta tus bar to notify when available . T ap → Adv anced and tick Network notification to activate this f eature . W i-Fi Dir ec t Wi-F i Direct connects devices directly via a Wi-F i network without requiring an access point .
Settings 95 F light mode This disables all wireless functions on your devic e. Y ou can use only non-net work services. On the Settings screen, tap Fligh t mode . Data usage Keep track of your da ta usage amount and customise the settings f or the limitation.
Settings 96 More networks Cust omise settings to contr ol net works. On the Settings screen, tap More networks . Default messaging app Selec t the default app to use f or messaging. VPN Set up and connect to vir tual private networks ( VPNs). Mobile networks • Mobile data : Set the device to use data connections on any mobile network.
