Assembling 11 Inser t the SIM or USIM card. 3 Place the SIM or USIM card into the devic e with • the gold-coloured contacts facing down. If you do not insert a SIM or USIM card, you can • only use your device ’ s non-network services and some menus.
Assembling 12 Charge the batt er y Before using the device f or the rst time, you must charge the battery. Y ou can charge the device with the pro vided travel adapter or by connecting the device to a PC with a PC data cable. Use only Samsung-approved char gers and cables.
Assembling 13 Plug the large end of the trav el adapter into a power 3 outlet. Y ou can use the device while it is charging , but it • may take longer to fully charge the battery . While the device is charging , the touch screen may • not funct ion d ue t o a n uns table pow er su pply .
Assembling 14 Charge with the PC data cable › Before charging , ensure that your PC is turned on. Open the cover to the multifunction jack on the top of 1 the device. Plug one end (micro-USB) of the PC data cable into the 2 multifunction jack. Plug the other end of the PC data cable into a USB port 3 on a PC.
Assembling 15 Y our device supports only the F A T le structure for • memory cards. If you insert a card formatted with a dierent le structure , your device will ask you to reformat the memory card. Fr equent writing and erasing of data will shorten • the lifespan of memory cards.
Assembling 16 Remove the memory card › Before remo ving a memory card, rst unmount it for safe removal. In Idle mode, select 1 Applications → Settings → SD card and phone storage → Unmount SD card . Remove the back cov er . 2 Push the memory card gently until it disengages from 3 the device.
Assembling 17 Attach a hand str ap (optional) Remove the back cov er . 1 Slide a hand strap through the slot and hook it over 2 the small projection. Replace the back cover . 3 F ormat the memory card › Formatting y our memory card on a PC may cause incompatibilities with your device .

Getting started 23 › Add items to the idle scr een Y ou can customise the idle screen by adding shortcuts to applications or items in applications, widgets , or folders. T o add items to the idle screen, Press [ 1 ] → Add or tap and hold the empty area on the idle screen.
Getting started 24 Use the shortcuts panel › In Idle mode or while using an application, tap the indicator icons area and drag y our nger down to open the shortcuts panel. Y ou can activate or deactivate wireless connection features and access a list of notica tions, such as messages, calls, even ts or processing status.
Getting started 25 Ac cess applications T o access your device ’ s applications, In Idle mode, select 1 Applications to access the application list. Scroll left or right to another application screen. 2 Y ou can also select a dot on the top of the screen to move to the corr esponding main menu screen directly .
Getting started 26 Drag the application icon to the location y ou want. 3 Y ou can move an application icon t o another main menu screen. Y ou can also move most-used applications next to Home . Press [ 4 ] → Save . T o change the order of the main menu screens, In the application list, place your two ngers on the 1 screen and pinch.

Getting started 28 Activate animation f or switching › windows In Idle mode, open the application list and select Settings → Display → Animation → Some animations or All animations . Select a wallpaper for the idle screen › In Idle mode, press [ 1 ] → W allpap er → an option.

Getting started 30 Lock your SIM or USIM car d › Y ou can lock your device by activating the PIN supplied with your SIM or USIM card. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → Location and security → Set up SIM card lock → Lock SIM card .
Getting started 31 Enter a phone number including a country code 6 (with + ). Enter a sender’ s name. 7 Enter the text message to be sent to the recipien ts. 8 Select 9 Save . Getting started 32 Release the nger on the last character . 3 When the word display s correctly , select 4 to insert a space. If the correct word does not displa y , select an alternative wor d from the list that appears. Repeat steps 1-4 to complete y our text.

Getting started 36 Search for a le or application and download it. 2 T o install applications downloaded from websites other than Android Market, you must select Settings → Applications → Unknown sources → OK . Synchr onise data Y ou can synchronise data with various web servers and back up or restore y our data.
Getting started 37 Select the applications you want to synchronise. 4 T o exclude applications from aut omatic synchronisation, clear the check boxes next to the applications y ou want. Synchronise da ta manually › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → Ac counts and sync .
Communication 38 C ommunication Calling Learn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options available during a call or customising and using call-related f eatures. Make and answer a call › Y ou can use the buttons or the touch screen when you make, accept, end or r eject calls.
Communication 39 Call an international number In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Phone → Ke ypad , and tap and hold 0 to insert the + character . Enter the complete number you w ant to dial (country 2 code, area c ode and phone number), and then select to dial the number .
Communication 40 T o open the dialling screen, select • Dialpad . T o activate the speakerphone feature, select • Speaker . In noisy environments, y ou may have diculty hearing some calls while using the speakerphone feature . For bett er audio per formance, use the normal phone mode.
Communication 41 T o use the other part y's image, tap and hold the other • party's image. Y ou can capture an image of the screen or record the video call .
Communication 42 Use F ixed Dialling Number (FDN) mode In FDN mode, your device will restrict outgoing calls, except f or the numbers stored in the FDN list. T o ac tivate FDN mode, In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → Call settings → Fix ed D ialing Numbers → Enable FDN .
Communication 43 Enter a number to which calls will be forwarded and 3 select Enable . Y our setting will be sent to the network. Set call barring Ca ll barri ng is a net wo rk fe atu re t o re strict certa in types of calling or to prevent others fr om making calls with your device.
Communication 44 Select a log to view its details. 3 Fr om the detail view , you can dial the number , send a message to the number or add the number to the phonebook or reject list. Messaging Learn to creat e and send text (SMS) or multimedia (MMS) messages, and view or manage messages you hav e sent or received .
Communication 45 Send a multimedia message › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Messaging → New message . Select 2 Contacts . Y ou can enter a number manually or select one from the logs or contact groups by selecting another button.

Communication 50 Add friends to y our friend list › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 T alk . The friend list shows all of your Google T alk contacts at a glance. Press [ 2 ] → Add friend . Enter an email address of the friend and select 3 Send invitation .

Entertainment 52 Entertainment Camera Learn how to capture and view phot os and videos. Y ou can tak e pho tos at reso lut ions up t o 2 560 x 19 20 pi xels (5 megapixels) and videos at resolutions up t o 1280 x 720 pixels. Capture a photo › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Camera .
Entertainment 53 Number F unction 8 Switch to the camcor der . 9 Capture a photo . 10 Open the image viewer to view photos you captured. Press the Volume key to zoom in or out . 4 Y ou can also tap the screen with two ngers and spread them apart (move your ngers closer together to zoom out).

Entertainment 55 Capture a series of photos › Y ou can easily take a series of photos of moving subjects. This is useful when you are photog raphing children at play or a sporting event. Entertainment 56 Capture a vintage phot o › Y ou can take photos with a vintage look and feel by applying colour lters. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Camera . Rotate the device anti-clockwise to landscape view. 2 Select 3 → Vintage .
Entertainment 57 Select 6 to take the rst photo . The half of the rst photo appears as a transparent guide for the next photo. Make any necessary adjustments with the aid of the 7 guide. Select 8 to take the second photo . The device will automatically combine the half of the rst photo and the other half of the second photo into one photo.

Entertainment 60 Record a video › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Camera . Rotate the device anti-clockwise to landscape view. 2 Select 3 to switch to the camcor der . Aim the lens at the subject and make any necessary 4 adjustments.
Entertainment 61 Number F unction 9 Open the image viewer to view videos you recor ded. Press the Volume key to zoom in or out . 5 Select 6 to start recording. Select 7 to stop recor ding. The video is saved automa tically . The camera may not be able to pr operly record videos to a memory card with a slow transfer speed.

Entertainment 64 Avoid locking the device ’ s screen while playing a • DivX Video-On-Demand. Each time you lock the screen while playing a DivX Video- On-Demand, one of your available ren tal counts will be decremented. Some le formats are not supported depending • on the software of the device.

Entertainment 70 Number F unction 5 Add the current radio station t o the favourites list. 6 Change the sound output (headset or device's speaker). 7 Change the frequency by scrolling left or right on the scale bar . 8 Set the FM radio to automatically r etune frequencies for stations when the current signal is weak.
