Getting star ted 10 Installing the batter y 1 Remove the back c over . Be careful not to damage y our finger nails when you r emove the back cov er . Do not bend or twist the back cover ex cessively . D oing so may damage the co ver . 2 Inser t the batter y .

Getting star ted 12 Installing the protective case Inser t the top of the device into the case , and then press the other side of the case firmly to install it. 1 2 T o r emove the pr otec tive case fr om the device, twist the top edge of the case until the device protrudes fr om it.
Getting star ted 13 Charg ing with the charger Connect the USB cable to the USB pow er adaptor and then plug the end of the USB cable into the multipurpose jack . Connecting the charger improperly ma y cause serious damage to the device . Any damage caused by misuse is not co ver ed by the warranty .
Getting star ted 14 Checking the batter y charge status When you char ge the batter y while the device is off , the following ic ons will show the current battery charge status: Charging F ully charged Reducing the batter y c onsumption Y our device provides options that help y ou save ba tter y pow er .
Getting star ted 15 Inser ting a memor y card Y our device accepts memor y cards with maximum capacities of 64 GB . D epending on the memor y card manufacturer and type, some memory cards may not be compatible with y our device . • Some memor y cards may not be fully compa tible with the device .
Getting star ted 16 Removing the memor y card Befor e removing the memory card, first unmount it f or safe remo val. On the Home scr een, tap → Settings → General → Stor age → Unmount SD card . 1 Remove the back c over and ba tter y . 2 Pull out the memory card.
Getting star ted 17 T urning the devic e on and off When turning on the device f or the first time, f ollow the on-screen instructions to set up your device .
Getting star ted 18 L ock ing and unlock ing the devic e When not in use, lock the devic e to prevent un wanted operation. P ressing the P ower button turns off the screen and puts the device int o lock mode. The device automa tically gets locked if it is not used for a specified period .
19 Basics Indicator ic ons The icons displa yed at the t op of the screen pr ovide inf ormation about the status of the device . The icons list ed in the table below are most c ommon.
Basics 20 U sing the touch scr een Use only fingers to use the t ouch screen. • Do not allow the touch scr een to come int o contact with other electr ical devices .
Basics 21 T apping and holding T ap and hold an item f or more than 2 seconds to access a vailable options. Dragging T o mov e an icon, thumbnail, or preview t o a new location, tap and hold it and drag it to the target position. Double -tapping Double -tap on a webpage, map , or image to zoom in a part.
Basics 22 F licking Flick left or right on the Home screen or the A pplications screen t o see another panel. F lick up or down to scr oll through a webpage or a list, such as contacts. Pinching Spread two fingers apart on a webpage, map , or image to zoom in a part.
Basics 23 C ontrol motions Simple motions allow easy contr ol of the device. Exc essive shaking or impac t to the device ma y result in unintended inputs. C ontrol motions properly . Rotating the screen Many applications allo w display in either por trait or landscape orientation.
Basics 24 Sw eeping Sw eep your hand across the scr een to capture a screenshot. The image is sav ed in Galler y → → Album → Screenshots . It is not possible to capture a screenshot while using some applications. C overing Co ver the screen with a palm t o pause media playback .
Basics 25 U sing Multi window Use this f eature t o run multiple applications on the screen at the same time . • Only applications on the Multi window tra y can run. • This f eature ma y not be available depending on the r egion or ser vice provider .
Basics 26 2 T ap and hold an application icon on the Multi window tr ay , and then drag it to the screen. Release the application icon when the screen turns blue . 3 T ap and hold another application icon on the Multi window tr ay , and then drag it to a new location.
Basics 27 Sharing con tent betw een applications Y ou can easily share content between applica tions, such as Email and Internet , by dragg ing and dropping them. Some applications may not suppor t this f eature . 1 Launch Email and Internet in a split screen Multi window .

Basics 29 Notifications Notification icons appear on the status bar a t the top of the screen t o report new messages, calendar events , device status, and more . Drag down from the status bar t o open the notifications panel. Scr oll the list to see additional aler ts.
Basics 30 • Fligh t mode : Activate or deactivate fligh t mode. The av ailable options may vary depending on the region or ser vice pro vider . W eb & network 56 P airing with other Bluetooth devices On the Applications screen, tap Settings → Connections → Bluetooth → Scan , and detected devices are list ed. Select the device you want t o pair with, and then accept the aut o - generated passkey on both devic es to confirm.
57 Media Music Use this application to list en to music. T ap Music on the Applications screen. Pla ying music Selec t a music category , and then selec t a song to play . T ap the album image at the bottom of the scr een to open the music player scr een.
Media 58 T o listen t o songs at equal volume levels , tap → Settings → Adv anced → Smar t volume . When Smar t volume is activated, the v olume may end up louder than the device volume lev el. Use caution t o av oid long-term exposure t o loud sounds to prev ent damage to your hearing .
Media 59 Camer a Use this application to take phot os or videos. Use Galler y to view photos and videos taken with the devic e ’ s camera. ( p. 64 ) T ap Camer a on the Applications screen. • The camera aut omatically shuts off when unused. • Make sure that the lens is clean.
Media 60 Shooting mode Several photo eff ec ts are a vailable. T ap MODE , and then scroll up or down the scr een at the right side of the screen. • Aut o : Use this to allo w the camera to evaluat e the sur roundings and det ermine the ideal mode for the phot o .

Settings 99 Stor age View memory information for y our device and memor y card, or f ormat a memor y card. F ormatting a memor y card permanently deletes all data fr om it. The actual available capacity of the internal memor y is less than the specified capacity because the operating system and default applications oc cupy par t of the memor y .

T roubleshooting 106 Sound echoes during a call Adjust the v olume by pressing the V olume button or move t o another area. A cellular netw ork or the Internet is often disconnected or audio quality is poor • Ensure that y ou are not block ing the device ’ s internal ant enna.
T roubleshooting 107 Y our device is hot t o the touch When you use applica tions that requir e more power or use applications on y our device for an extended period of time, your devic e may f eel hot to the touch. This is normal and should not affect your device ’ s lif espan or per formanc e.
