Getting star ted 10 Char ging the ba tter y Use the charger t o charge the battery before using it f or the first time. Use only Samsung-appro ved chargers and cables . Unapproved char gers or cables can cause the battery to explode or damage the device.
Getting star ted 11 • The device can be used while it is char ging , but it may take longer to fully char ge the battery . • If the device receiv es an unstable power supply while charging , the touch screen may not function. If this happens, unplug the charger from the devic e.
Getting star ted 12 U sing a memor y card Installing a memor y card Y our device acc epts memor y cards with maximum capacities of 128 GB. Depending on the memor y card manufacturer and type, some memory cards may not be compatible with y our device .
Getting star ted 13 Removing the memor y card Befor e removing the memory card, first unmount it f or safe remo val. On the Home scr een, tap → Settings → General → Stor age → Unmount SD card . 1 Open the cov er of the memor y card slot. 2 Push the memory card until it disengages from the devic e, and then pull it out.
Getting star ted 14 T urning the devic e on and off Pr ess and hold the Po wer button f or a few seconds to turn on the device . When you turn on y our device f or the first time or after per forming a data reset, f ollow the on- screen instructions to set up your devic e.
Getting star ted 15 L ock ing and unlock ing the screen Pr essing the Po wer button turns off the scr een and locks it. Also , the screen turns off and automatically locks if the device is not used f or a specified period.
16 Basics U sing the touch scr een • Do not allow the touch scr een to come int o contact with other electr ical devices . Electrostatic discharges can cause the touch scr een to malfunc tion. • T o av oid damaging the touch scr een, do not tap it with anything sharp or apply ex cessive pr essure to it with your fingertips.
Basics 17 T apping and holding T ap and hold an item or the screen f or more than 2 seconds to access a vailable options. Dragging T o move an it em, tap and hold it and drag it to the target position.
Basics 18 Double -tapping Double -tap on a webpage or image to zoom in. Double-tap again to return. F licking Flick left or right on the Home screen or the A pps screen to see another panel . Flick up or down to scr oll through a webpage or a list of items , such as contacts.

Basics 20 Home screen la y out Home screen The Home screen is the starting point for acc essing all of the device’ s featur es. The Home screen has two diff erent k inds of panels. The Classic Home screen panel display s widgets, shor tcuts to apps , and more, and the Con tent Home scr een panel displays C ontent widgets.
Basics 21 Apps scr een The Apps scr een displays ic ons for all apps , including newly installed apps. On the Home screen, tap to open the Apps scr een. T o view other panels, scr oll left or right, or select a screen indicator at the bottom of the scr een.
Basics 22 Indicator ic ons Indicator icons appear on the status bar at the t op of the screen. T he icons listed in the table below are most c ommon. The status bar ma y not appear at the top of the scr een in some apps. T o display the status bar , drag down from the top of the scr een.
Basics 23 Notifications and quick setting panels Using the notifica tions panel When you r eceive new notifications, such as messages , indicator icons appear on the status bar . T o see more information about the icons , open the notifications panel and view the details.
Basics 24 Y ou can use the following functions on the notifications panel. Launch Settings . Launch S F inder . Adjust the v olume. T ap a notification and per form various actions. Clear all notifications. Adjust the brightness. View all quick setting buttons.
Basics 25 Using the quick setting panel Y ou can ac tivate or deactivate some f eatures on the notifications panel. T o ac tivate or deactivate more f eatures, open the quick setting panel . T o open the quick setting panel, drag the sta tus bar down wards with two fingers .

Basics 28 Downloading suggest ed apps Y ou can view and download dedicated Galax y device apps . On the Classic Home screen, tap the GALAXY Essentials widget or the GALAXY Gifts widget, and then tap next to an app . T o download all apps in the list, tap Download all .

Network connectivit y 38 Adding Wi - Fi networks If the desired network does not appear in the Wi-F i networks list, tap Add W i-F i net work at the bottom of the list. Ent er the network name in Network SSID , select the securit y type and enter the passw ord if it is not an open network, and then tap Connect .
Network connectivit y 39 3 Enter the w eb address or a keyword , and then tap Go . T o search the web by v oice , tap . Open the homepage. Close the tab . Move to the previously-visit ed page. Book mark the current webpage . Open a new tab . Read an ar ticle in reading mode .

P alm swipe to capture On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → Motions , and then tap the P alm swipe to capture switch to activate it.

P ersonalising 55 Setting wallpaper and ringtones Setting wallpaper Set an image or photo stored in the devic e as wallpaper for the Classic Home screen or the locked screen. 1 On the Classic Home screen, tap and hold an empty area, and then tap W allpapers .
P ersonalising 56 Changing the scr een lock method Y ou can change the way that you lock the scr een to prevent others fr om accessing your personal information. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → Lock scr een → Screen lock , and then select a screen lock method .
P ersonalising 57 P assword A passwor d consists of characters and numbers. En ter at least f our characters including numbers and symbols, and then ent er the passwor d again to verify it.
P ersonalising 58 Registering fingerprints 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → F inger S canner → F ingerprint manager . 2 If you are r egistering more fingerprints , a finger print rec ognition pop-up window appears. Scan a reg istered fingerprint on the devic e and tap .
P ersonalising 59 Managing reg ister ed fingerprints Y ou can delete or rename your r egistered fingerprints. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → F inger S canner → F ingerprint manager . Then, scan a reg istered fingerprint or tap Alternativ e password , enter the curren t alternative passwor d, and then tap Done .
P ersonalising 60 P rivate mode About priva te mode Use this mode to pr event others from using or acc essing specific conten t, such as images and documents, st ored on the device . Y ou can save conten t to a specific location and deactivate private mode to hide it ems securely .
P ersonalising 61 V iewing hidden cont ent Y ou can only view hidden items when private mode is activated. 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → Priv ate mode , and then tap the Private mode switch to activate it. A lternatively , open the quick setting panel and tap Private mode to activate it.
P ersonalising 62 Adding r estric ted profiles 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → Users . 2 T ap → Restric ted pr ofile . 3 Set an unlock code, and then select the apps and conten t that restricted users are allowed t o access. Swit ching users T ap at the top of the locked scr een.
P ersonalising 63 Managing users When using the owner ac count, y ou can delete accoun ts or change the account settings . On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → Users and select an account under USERS & PROFILES . Then, select or deselect apps and content to allow or r estric t the account’ s access to them.

Camera 70 • The camera aut omatically shuts off when unused. • Make sure that the lens is clean. Other wise, the device may not w ork properly in some modes that requir e high resolutions. • The fron t camera lens is suitable f or tak ing wide -angle photos.
Camera 71 Remote viewfinder Use another device as a viewfinder f or your device. Y ou can control y our device remotely to take photos or videos from a distanc e. The connected device display s the same image that is display ed on your device . 1 T ap Camer a on the Apps screen.
Camera 72 Shooting modes Au to Use this mode to allo w the camera to evaluat e the sur roundings and det ermine the ideal mode for the phot o . On the Apps screen, tap Camer a → MODE → Aut o . Beauty face Use this mode to take a phot o with lightened faces f or gentler images.
