Assembling 10 Inser t the SIM or USIM card. 3 Place the SIM or USIM card into the devic e with • the gold-coloured contacts facing up. If you do not insert a SIM or USIM card, you can • only use your device ’ s non-network services and some menus.
Assembling 11 Charge the batt er y Before using the device f or the rst time, you must charge the battery. Y ou can charge the device with the pro vided travel adapter or by connecting the device to a PC with a PC data cable. Use only Samsung-approved char gers and cables.
Assembling 12 Plug the large end of the trav el adapter into a power 3 outlet. Y ou can use the device while it is charging , but it • may take longer to fully charge the battery . Assembling 13 Inser t a memor y card (optional) T o store additional multimedia les, y ou must insert a memory card. Y our device accepts microSD™ or microSDHC™ memory cards with maximum capacities of 32 GB (depending on memory card manufacturer and type).
Assembling 14 Remove the back cov er . 1 Ins ert a memo r y c ar d w ith t he go ld-co lou re d c onta cts 2 facing up. Push the memory card in the memory card slot until it 3 locks in place. Replace the back cover . 4 Y our device supports only the F A T le structure for • memory cards.
Assembling 15 F ormat the memory card › Formatting y our memory card on a PC may cause incompatibilities with your device . Format the memory card only on the device. In Idle mode, select Applications → Settings → SD card and phone storage → F ormat SD card → F ormat SD card .

Getting started 22 › Add items t o the idle screen Y ou can customise the idle screen by adding shortcuts to applications or items in applications, widgets , or folders. T o add items to the idle screen, Press [ 1 ] → Add or tap and hold the empty area on the idle screen.
Getting started 23 Use the shortcuts panel › In Idle mode or while using an application, tap the indicator icons area and drag y our nger down to open the shortcuts panel. Y ou can activate or deactivate wireless connection features and acc ess a list of a notications, such as messages, calls, even ts or processing status.
Getting started 24 When you use applications pro vided by Google, • you must have a Google acc ount. If you do not have a Google account, sig n up for a Google account. Y ou can add a shortcut to an application by • tapping and holding the application icon from the application list.
Getting started 25 Cust omise your devic e Get more from your device b y customising it to match your preferenc es. Set the current time and date › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → Date and time . Set the time and date and change other options.
Getting started 26 Select a wallpaper for the idle screen › In Idle mode, press [ 1 ] → W allpap er → an option. Select an image. 2 Select 3 Save or Set wallpaper . Samsung is not responsible for any use of default images or wallpapers provided on your devic e.
Getting started 27 Once you set an unlock pattern, your devic e will • require the pattern each time y ou turn it on or unlock the touch screen. If you do not want the device to require the pa ttern, clear the check box next to Require pattern in L ocation and security .
Getting started 28 In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → Location and security → Set mobile tracker . Enter an 8-digit mobile tracker password, en ter it again 2 to conrm, and select OK . Select a recipient eld and enter a phone number 3 including a country code (with + ).

Getting started 30 Enter te xt using the Samsung keypad › Select 1 and select a text input method. Y ou can select one of key input methods (QWERT Y or traditional keypad) or handwriting input methods. Enter text by selecting alphanumeric keys or writing 2 on the screen.
Getting started 31 T ap and hold the highlighted text. 5 Select 6 Copy to copy , or Cu t to cut the text onto the clipboard. In another application, tap and hold the text input 7 eld. Select 8 Paste to insert the text from the clipboard into the text eld.
Getting started 32 Uninstall an application › Fr om the Android Market home screen, press [ 1 ] → Downloads . Select the item you want to delete. 2 Select 3 Uninstall → OK . Download les from the w eb When you download les or web applica tions from the web , your device saves them in a memory card.
Getting started 33 T o download les from the web , In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Internet . Search for a le or application and download it. 2 T o install applications downloaded from websit es other than Android Market, you must select Settings → Applications → Unknown sources .
Getting started 34 Select an account. 3 Select the applications you want to synchronise. 4 T o exclude applications from aut omatic synchronisation, clear the check boxes next to the applications y ou want. Synchronise da ta manually › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → Ac counts and sync .
Communication 35 C ommunication Calling Learn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options available during a call or customising and using call-related f eatures. Make and answer a call › Y ou can use the buttons or the touch screen when y ou make, accept, end or r eject calls.
Communication 36 Use the headset › By plugging the supplied headset into the device, y ou can answer calls hands-free: T o answer a call, press the headset button. • T o reject a call, press and hold the headset button. • T o place a call on hold or retrieve a held call during a call, • press and hold the headset button.
Communication 37 T o answer a second call, select • Accept when a call waiting tone sounds. The device asks whether to end or hold the rst call. Y ou must subscribe to the call waiting service to use this feature. T o switch between the two calls, select • Swap .
Communication 38 Use F ixed Dialling Number (FDN) mode In FDN mode, your device will restrict outgoing calls, except f or the numbers stored in the FDN list. T o ac tivate FDN mode, In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → Call settings → Fix ed D ialing Numbers → Enable FDN .
Communication 39 Set call waiting Call waiting is a network featur e to alert you of an incoming call while you are on a pr evious call. In Idle mode, open the application list and select Settings → Call settings → V oice call → Call waiting . Y our setting will be sent to the network.
Communication 40 Select 2 Contacts . Y ou can enter a number manually or select one from the recent recipien ts or contact groups by selecting another button. Select the check boxes next to contacts and select 3 Add . Select the text input eld and enter your message text.
Communication 41 Vie w a text or multimedia message › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Messaging . Y our messages are grouped int o message threads by contact, like a messenger . Select a contact. 2 Select a text or multimedia message from the message 3 thread.
Communication 42 Google Mail Y ou can retrieve new email messages from Google Mail™ to your Inbox. When you access this application, the Inbo x sc re en app ears . Th e t otal numbe r of unre ad mes sages disp lays in t he ti tle b ar an d unr ead messa ges display in bold.
Communication 43 T o archive the message, select • Archive . T o delete the message, select • Delete . T o view an old message, select • Older . Organise email by labels › Y ou can organise your email by labelling y our messages or adding stars to mark important messages.
Communication 44 When you are nished setting up the email acc ount, the email messages are downloaded to your devic e. If you have creat ed more than two accounts , you can switch between email accounts; Pr ess [ ] → Acc ounts and select one you want to retrieve messages fr om.

Communication 46 Add friends to y our friend list › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 T alk . The friend list shows all of your Google T alk contacts at a glance. Press [ 2 ] → Add friend . Enter your friend's e-mail address and select 3 Send Invitation .
Entertainment 47 Entertainment Camera Learn how to capture and view phot os and videos. Y ou can take phot os a t r esol ution s up to 2 048 x 1536 pixe ls (3.2 mega pixels) and videos at resolutions up t o 320 x 240 pixels. T o use the camera, you must rst insert a memor y card.
Entertainment 48 Press the Volume key to z oom in or out. 4 Select 5 to take a photo . The photo is saved aut omatically . After taking photos, select to view the taken photos. T o view more photos, scr oll left or right. • T o zoom in or out, select • or .
Entertainment 49 Capture a photo in Smile shot mode › Y our camera can recognise people ’ s faces and help you take photos of their smiling faces. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Camera . Rotate the device anti-clockwise to landscape view.
Entertainment 50 Capture a panor amic photo › Y ou can take wide panoramic photos using P anorama shooting mode. This mode is convenient for photographing landscapes. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Camera . Rotate the device anti-clockwise to landscape view.
Entertainment 51 Make any necessary adjustments with the aid of the 6 guide. Select 7 to take the second photo . The device will automatically combine the left side of the rst photo and the right side of the second photo into one photo .

Entertainment 53 Capture a video › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Camera . Rotate the device anti-clockwise to landscape view. 2 Select 3 to switch to the camcor der . Aim the lens at the subject and make any necessary 4 adjustments.

The video is saved automa tically . The camera may not be able to pr operly record videos to a memory card with a slow transfer speed.

Entertainment 61 Add songs to the quick list › Y ou can add songs to the quick list and save them as a playlist. During playback, press [ ] → Add t o quick list to add the current song to the quick list. T o go to the quick list, from the music play er main screen, select Playlists → Quick list .
Entertainment 62 Number F unction 1 Adjust the volume . 2 T ur n o the FM radio; Select to turn on the FM radio . 3 Change the frequency by 0.1 MHz. 4 Search for an available r adio station. 5 Add the current radio station t o the favourites list. 6 Change the sound output (headset or device's speaker).
Entertainment 63 Save a r adio station automatically › Plug the supplied headset into the device. 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select 2 FM Radio . Select 3 Scan → a scanning option. The FM radio scans and sa ves available stations automatically .
Entertainment 64 Option F unction Show Station ID Set whether or not to show the station ID on the FM radio scr een; Station IDs are available only fr om ra dio st atio ns tha t pr ovid e t his information. Alternative frequency Set whether or not the FM radio attempts to retune a radio sta tion when the signal is weak.
Personal information 65 P ersonal information Con tacts Learn to creat e and manage a list of your personal or business contacts stored on the phone's memory or a SIM or USIM card. Y ou can save names, mobile phone numbers, home phone numbers, email addresses, birthdays and more for your c ontacts.
Personal information 66 Set a speed dial number › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Contacts . Press [ 2 ] → Speed dial . Select a location number 3 → a contact. Y ou can quickly dial this number by tapping and holding the location number from the dialling screen.
