Assembling 12 T o install the SIM or USIM card, Open the cov er of the SIM card slot. 1 Inser t the SIM or USIM card with the gold- coloured 2 contacts facing down.
Assembling 13 Charge the battery only with a charger . Y ou cannot ● charge the battery with the USB cable. When your batt er y is low , the device will emit a ● warning tone and display a lo w batter y message. The battery icon will also be empty .
Assembling 14 Plug the USB pow er adapter into a pow er outlet. 2 Y ou can use the device while it is charging , but it may ● take longer to fully charge the batt er y . While the device is charg ing, the t ouch screen may ● not function due to an unstable power supply .
Assembling 15 Samsung uses approv ed industr y standards for memory cards , but some brands may not be fully compatible with your device . Using an incompatible memory card may damage your devic e or the memor y card and can corrupt data stor ed on the card.
Assembling 16 Remov e the memor y card › Before r emoving a memory card, first unmount it f or safe remov al. Open the application list and select 1 Settings → S torage → Unmoun t SD card → OK . Open the memor y card cov er . 2 Push the memory card gently until it disengages from the 3 device.

22 Getting star ted Use the S P en and the touch screen Y our device ’ s touch screen lets you easily select items or per form functions. Learn basic actions for using the touch screen. Do not press the touch scr een with your fingertips, ● or use sharp tools on the touch screen.

24 Getting star ted Get to know the Home screen When the device is in Idle mode , you will see the Home screen. F r om the Home screen, you can view indicat or icons, widgets, shortcuts to applications, and other it ems. Scroll left or right to a panel of the Home screen.

26 Getting star ted Add a widgets on the Home scr een › Widgets ar e small applications that pro vide conv enient functions and information on your Home scr een. Some widgets connect to web ser vices. U sing a web- ● based widget may result in additional char ges.
27 Getting star ted Add , remov e, or reor ganise panels: 2 T o add a new panel, select ● . T o remove a panel , tap and hold the panel’ s thumbnail ● image, and then drag it t o the rubbish bin. T o set a panel for the default Home screen, select ● .

29 Getting star ted C ustomise y our device Get more from y our device by customising it t o match your pref erences . Change the language of the display › Open the application list and select 1 Settings → Language and input → Language . Select a language you want.
30 Getting star ted Selec t a wallpaper for the Home scr een › T ap and hold anywhere on the Home Screen. 1 Select 2 Set wallpaper for → Home scr een . Galler y ● : Photos y ou took or images downloaded from the Internet. Live w allpapers ● : Animated images included with the device.
31 Getting star ted › Set a screen lock Y ou can lock your device by activating the scr een lock featur e. Once you set a scr een lock, your device will requir e ● an unlock code each time you turn it on or unlock the touch screen. If you for get your PIN or passwor d, bring your devic e ● to a Samsung Ser vice Centr e to reset it.
32 Getting star ted Set an unlock pattern Open the application list and select 1 Settings → Security → Screen lock → P att ern . See the on-screen instructions and example patterns and 2 select N ex t . Draw a patt ern by dragging y our finger to connect at least 3 4 dots and select Continue .
33 Getting star ted Lock y our SIM or USIM card › Y ou can lock your device by activating the PIN supplied with your SIM or USIM car d. Open the application list and select 1 Settings → Security → Set up SIM card lock → L ock SIM card . Enter y our PIN and select 2 OK .
34 Getting star ted Drag the slide bar to the right next to 4 S ave . Select 5 Alert message . Enter the text message that will be sent t o the recipients 6 and select OK . Add r ecipients: 7 Select ● Create and enter phone numbers manually , including the country code and the + symbol.
35 Getting star ted Enter t ext using the Samsung keypad › Enter text by selecting alphanumeric keys and you can use the follo wing keys: Number F unction 1 Change case. 2 Switch between Number/S ymbol mode and ABC mode. 3 Acc ess the keypad settings.
36 Getting star ted C opy and paste te xt › While you ar e entering text, you can use the c opy and paste featur e to use text in other applications. T ap and hold a word. 1 Drag 2 or to select the text you want. Select 3 Cop y to copy , or Cu t to cut the text onto the clipboard .
Using special features 37 U sing special fea tur es Y our device can be used as a powerful notepad, thanks to multiple featur es that help you input t ext, capture drawings , and use motion contr ols or voice commands . Learn basic S P en ac tions Y our device is supplied with a specialised S P en.
Using special features 38 Back While pressing the S P en button, drag the S P en to the left to return to the previous scr een. Menu While pressing the S P en button, drag the S P en down to open a list of options available on the curren t screen. Using special features 39 Replacing the tip of S P en If the tip is worn down or seems the S P en is not working properly , replace the tip as new one. If the S Pen is not w ork ing properly after replacing the tip , make sure the tip is fully inserted until it reach the end.
Using special features 40 T ilt › While holding the device with two hands , tap and hold two points on the screen, and then tilt the devic e back and forth to zoom in or out. Pa n › T ap and hold an item on the screen, and then pan the device to the left or right to move the it em to another page on the home screen or application list.
Using special features 41 Use Handwriting mode F rom the Samsung keypad, y ou can switch to Handwriting mode to enter t ext more easily . T o switch to Handwriting mode, tap and hold , and then select without lifting from scr een. Write y our text on the handwriting panel.

Using special features 53 Use the quick not e pad F rom an y screen, you can cr eate a quick note of t ext and sketches. While pressing the S P en button, double -tap the screen to 1 open the quick note pad.
Using special features 54 Use S Planner Y our device provides y ou with a powerful planner to help you organise your schedules and tasks mor e con veniently and effectively . Y ou can creat e and view events , add items, and change view modes. T o launch S Planner , open the application list and selec t S Planner .

Web 62 Play Books Brow se and download book files with Google Play Books. Y ou can read book files on your devic e. In the application list, select Play Books .

Web 64 V ideo Hub Learn to ac cess videos. Open the application list and select 1 V ideo Hub . Select a categor y . 2 Search for and ac cess videos. 3 Maps Learn to use Google Maps ™ to find your loca tion, search the map for str eets, cities, or c ountries, and get dir ections.
Web 65 T o access a list of other options, select ● . T o zoom in or out, place two fingers on the screen and ● slowly spread them apart or pinch them together . Y ou can also double -tap the screen. T o return to the original size, double-tap the screen.

Communication 69 C ommunica tion Calling Learn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options av ailable during a call or customising and using call-relat ed featur es. Make or answ er a call › Y ou can use the buttons or the touch screen when y ou make, accept, end or r eject calls.
Communication 70 Answ er a call 1 When a call comes in, drag in any dir ection until it reaches the bor der of the circle. When the device is ringing , press the V olume key to mute the ringtone . T o end the call, select 2 End call . Reject a c all When a call comes in, drag in any dir ection until it reaches the border of the cir cle.
Communication 71 Inser t a pause Learn to insert a pause between numbers when entering a PIN or account number on an aut omatic answering system. Open the application list and select 1 Phone → K eypad , and then enter an ar ea code and a phone number .
Communication 72 Use options during a v oice call › Y ou can use the following options while a v oice call is in progr ess: T o adjust the voice volume , press the V olume key up or ● down. T o place a call on hold, select ● Hold . T o retrieve a held call , select Unhold .
Communication 73 Use options during a video call › Y ou can use the following options while a video call is in progr ess: T o switch between the front and r ear camera lens, select ● Swit ch camera . T o open the dialling screen, select ● Ke ypad .
Communication 74 › Set auto rejection Use auto r ejection to reject calls from cer tain numbers automatically . T o activate auto rejection and create aut o reject lists, Open the application list and select 1 Phone → K eypad → → C all settings → C all settings → C all rejection .
Communication 75 Select a condition. 2 Enter a number to which calls will be f or warded and select 3 Enable . Y our setting will be sent to the network. › Use F ix ed Dialling Number (FDN) mode In FDN mode, your device will r estrict outgoing calls, ex cept for the numbers stor ed in the FDN list.
Communication 76 Set call waiting › Call waiting is a network f eature to alert you of an incoming call while you ar e on a previous call. This fea ture is available only for v oice calls. Communication 81 Listen to v oice mail messages › If you have set missed calls t o be diverted to the voice mail ser ver , callers can leave v oice messages when you do not answer incoming calls . T o access your v oice mail inbo x and listen to y our messages, Open the application list and select 1 Phone → K eypad , and then tap and hold .

103 Entertainment Galler y Learn to view phot os and play videos sav ed in your device ’ s memor y . A void locking the device’ s scr een while playing a DivX ● Video-On-Demand. Each time you lock the screen while playing a DivX Video- On-Demand, one of your available r ental counts will be decr emented.
104 Entertainment T o view the photo on a DLNA cer tified device, select ● . This option appears only if one or more DLNA c er tified devices are on the same Wi-F i network. T o send the photo to others, select ● → an option. T o delete the photo , select ● → OK .
105 Entertainment › T ag a face in an image Learn to tag fac es in your images to make calls , send messages, and upload messages to social networks with the face tag shortcuts. F ace recognition ma y fail depending on face angle, fac e size, skin colour , facial expression, light c onditions, or accessories the subject is wearing.
106 Entertainment During playback, selec t to acc ess the following options: T o send the video to others or share it, select ● Share via . T o divide the video into segments , select ● Chapter pre view . Y ou can search for a seg ment and skip directly to that point.
