5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to st art using your phone by first configuring your hard ware, activating your service, and then setting up your voice mail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use it is necessary to i nstall both t he battery and SIM into their correspondin g internal compartm ents.
Getting Started 6 Import ant!: The plug-in SIM card information and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratching or bending, so be careful when handling, inserting, or removing the card. Keep all SIM cards out of reach of small children. 䊳 Carefully slide t he SIM card in to the SIM card socket (as shown) until the card locks into place.

Getting Started 8 Inst alli ng the Back Cov er 1. Place the ba ttery cover onto the back of the phone (1) and press down (2). 2. Press along the edge of the ba ck cove r (3) until you have a secure seal. Note: Make sure the battery is properly installed before s witching on the phone.
9 Although you can use th e phone while the battery is charging, doing so will require a ddition al charging time . Note: Y ou must fully charge the batter y before using your phone for the first time. A discharged battery recharges fully in approxima tely 4 hours.
Getting Started 10 Switching the Phon e On or Off 1. Press and hold (on the upper right side of the phone) until the phone switches on. 2. Sweep your finger across the screen to unlock the phone. Note: The display language is preset to English at the factory.
11 4. A green checkm ark also appears next to the text that explains that you allows your location to be used for Google search resul ts and other Google ser vices. If yo u disagree, tap the check mark to remove it. 5. Ta p Next . The main Home scre en is displayed.

13 Section 2: Understanding Y our Phone This section ou tlines some ke y features of your phone a nd describes the screen and the icons that appear when the phone is in use. It also shows how to navigate through the phone and provides information on using a memory card.
Understanding Y our Phone 14 1. Front facing camera : allows you to take pictur es of yourself when you set the camera sho oting mode to Self shot. 2. Proximity sensors : use the ambient light level to adjust keypad access. If the light pa th is blocked, for exampl e, when holding the phone close to your ear , the touch screen will turn off.
15 Side Views of Y our Phone 1. Vol um e k ey s : allow you t o adjust the ringer volume while in standby mode or adjust the voice volu me during a call. When receiv ing an incom ing call, brief ly press down either volume key ( ) to mute the ring tone.
Understanding Y our Phone 16 Rear View of Y our Phone 1. Camera lens : is used to take pict ures and shoot videos. 2. External speaker : allows you to hear when the Speakerphone is turned o n. 3. Flash : is used to provide ade quate light when taking pictures in dark places.
17 Indicat or Icons This list identifies th e symb ols you’ll see on your phone’ s display and Indicator area: Displays your curre nt signal strength. The greater the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Indicates that th e Airplane Mode is active.

23 Maps : Depending on your location, yo u can view basic, custom, and satellite maps and lo cal business information, including locations, contac t information, and driving directions. Y ou can also post public messages about a location and track your friends.

37 Memor y Car d Y our device lets you use a microSD ™ (SD) or microSDHC ™ card to expand availabl e memory spac e. This secure digital card enables you to exchange imag es, music, and data between SD-compati ble devices. This section addresse s the features and options of your device ’ s SD functionality .

41 Making a Call from the Address Book Y ou can store phone numbers that you use regularly on the SIM card or in the phone’s memory . These entries are collectively called the Address Book . For further details ab out the Address Book feature, se e “Finding an Address Book Entry” on page 58.
Call Functions 42 Dialing Options From the Home screen and A pplication menus, you have the option to access the Dialer and init iate a call by tapping ➔ Keypad . From the Dialer and the Contacts screen, th e following tabs are located at the top of your screen: • Keypad : dials the current number entered using the on-screen keypad.
43 Note: If there is a voicemail sent by the same number , associa ted icons are displayed and can then be selected. 2. The Call log is displ ayed. Missed calls are identified by the icon next to the number . Calling Back a Missed Call T o call back a missed call num ber: 1.

Entering T ext 50 Section 4: Entering T ext This section describes how to se lect the desired text input method when entering characters into your pho ne. This section also describes the predictive text entry system that reduces the amount of key st rokes associated with entering text.
51 Changing the T ext Input Mode - K eypad There are two main keypad layout keys that will change the on- screen keys within the QWERTY key pad. The available T ext Input modes are: Sym and Abc . Note: When in Abc mode, the Sym button will appear . When in Sym mode, the Abc / ABC / abc button will appear .

53 Entering T ext Using the Samsung K eypad The Samsung Keypad is an on-scr een QWERTY key pad similar to the Android Keyboard with several minor differences. 1. From the Home screen, tap Applications ➔ Settings ➔ Locale and text ➔ Select input meth od .

61 Synchronizing Accounts From the Accounts menu you decide if you want applications to synchronize, send, and receive data at any given time , or if you want the applications to sync hronize automatically . After determining how you wa nt the accounts to sy nchronize, indicate which account to synchronize with your Contacts list.

The phone then displ ays a list of your current contacts stored on your SIM card. 3. T ap the contacts to place a checkmark adjacent to those entries you wish to have copied to your phone.

69 Using Playlists Playlists are used to assign songs to a list of preferred media which can then be grouped into a list for later playback. These Playlists can be crea ted via either the handse t’ s Music Player options menu or from wi thin a 3rd party music application (such as Windows Media Player) and th en downloaded to the handset.

Live TV Live TV is a subscription service that allows you to watch your favorite TV shows using your handset. 1. Ta p ➔ Live TV . Note: The first time you use Live TV , you will need to download the application from the Market.

77 Settings (continued): ISO : ISO determines how sensitive the light meter is on your digital camera. Choose from Auto, 100, 200, 400, or 800. Use a lower ISO number to make your camera less sensitiv.

Multimedia 84 Photo Editor The Photo Edito r application prov ides basic editing functions for pictures that you take on your phone. Along with basic image tuning like brightness, contrast, and co lor it also provides a wide variety of effects used for editing the picture.
85 Section 7: Messaging This section descri bes how to send and rec eive dif ferent types of messages. It al so includes the features and functi onality associated with messaging.

Changing Y our Settings 96 WPS Button Connection The WPS (Wi-F i Protect ed Setup) button is a standard for easy and secure wireless network set up and connections. T o use WPS, the connecti ng device must supp ort WPS and be compatible with Wi-Fi Protecte d Access (WP A) security .
