Getting star ted 15 4 After charging , disconnect the AC adapter from the c omputer . 5 Unplug it from the electric socket. When charg ing is complete , the charge status turns green.
Getting star ted 16 Batter y usage time Batteries are r eplacement items and ov er time the battery ’ s capacity to hold a charge and its pow er level is reduced . If a battery can only hold its charge for half of the time that it could when new , it is recommended t o purchase a new , replacement battery .

Windo ws 8 20 Screens in W indow s 8 Windo ws 8 provides two modes: the Star t screen and desktop mode. Star t screen Desktop.

Windo ws 8 27 Grouping tiles T o group tiles , selec t and hold a tile and drag it to an open space . Then, drag other tiles t o the new group . App tiles T ile position T o change the position of an app tile on the Star t screen, select and hold the tile and then drag it to a new position.
Windo ws 8 28 Editing tiles Right- click a tile and select an option: • Unpin from Start : Delete the tile from the Star t screen. • Uninstall : Uninstall the application from the c omputer . • Larger / Smaller : Change the size of the tile .

54 Net w ork & I nt ernet W ired LAN T o access the Internet at home , set up an account with an Internet ser vice pro vider (ISP). T o purchase Internet ser vice and a modem, contact a local ISP . • Some featur es or procedur es may differ depending on the model.
Network & Internet 55 • T o add a network item such as a client, ser vice , or protocol, select Install under the list of network items. 6 Configur e the IP settings. • When using DHCP , select Obtain an IP address automatically . • When not using DHCP , contact the network administrator for the IP addr ess.
Network & Internet 56 • When connected to a 100Mbps/1Gbps wir ed LAN , a message appears informing the user of connection to a 10Mbps/100Mbps wired LAN when the comput er wakes from sleep mode . This happens because restoring the network takes about 3 seconds .
Network & Internet 57 W i-F i net works 1 Open the Charms and then select Settings charm → A vailable . Network & Internet 58 Airplane mode Airplane mode disables all wireless functions on the computer . Only non-network ser vices are a vailable in Airplane mode . T o turn on Airplane mode, press the Fn key and the F12 key simultaneously . • This comput er uses a non-harmonized frequency and is intended f or use in all European countries .

60 Applica tions U sing applications Applications include the software that make up the operating syst em. Windo ws 8 pro vides basic applications for frequently -per formed tasks. • Some applications are av ailable only in Windo ws 8 desktop mode .
Applications 61 Opening rec ent applications 1 On the Star t screen, place the cursor in the upper -left corner of the screen until a small applica tion image appears. Swipe fr om the left edge of the touchpad or screen tow ards the middle of the touchpad or screen t o open the most recent application.
Applications 62 Pinning an applica tion Pin an applica tion on the Star t screen as a tile or unpin an application from the Star t screen. 1 On the Star t screen, right-click any ar ea and select All apps . 2 Right- click an application and select Pin t o star t or Unpin from Start to add or delete an application fr om the Star t screen.
Applications 63 Sto re Pur chase and download applications for the comput er . Creat e a Microsoft account to use this f eature. See Microsoft account. On the Star t screen, select Store . • This f eature ma y not be available depending on the operating syst em.

Applications 67 Samsung K ies Samsung Kies is an application to transf er music, contacts, and photos, or sync files betw een a Samsung mobile device and a Samsung computer . This application also enables the user to update the firm ware of the c onnected mobile device to keep it up-to - date .
Applications 68 SideS ync SideSync allows the user t o contr ol a Samsung mobile device from a Samsung comput er or share files between them. Use a comput er ’ s keyboard or mouse from a mobile device . On the Star t screen, right-click any ar ea and select All apps → SideSync .
Applications 69 C onfiguring the securit y solution T o use the TPM security solution, initialize the TPM chip in the BIOS Setup , initialize the TPM solution, and then regist er a user .

Applications 74 Opening encr ypted folders and files 1 Double - click an encr ypted folder or a file . 2 Enter the basic user passw ord on the user acc ount contr ol window and select OK . 3 The color of the encrypted folder or name of the encr ypted file changes to gr een.
Applications 75 Using the vir tual driv e (P ersonal Secure Drive) The virtual dr ive is a spac e to sav e and manage confidential data. In the created virtual dr ive (PSD ), it is possible to create files and folders as with a normal drive and t o use confidential data sa ved on another drive by c opying the data to the virtual drive (PSD).
Applications 76 When the vir tual driv e (PSD) does not appear The virtual dr ive (PSD ) is available only when the P ersonal Secure Drive (PSD) option is selected during the prog ram reg istration. Complete the f ollowing steps to select the P ersonal S ecure Device option from the user settings .
Applications 77 Step 1: Deleting a virtual drive If a vir tual drive has been created , delete the vir tual drive befor e deleting the existing authentication inf or mation sav ed on the TPM chip . 1 On the taskbar , right-click and select P ersonal S ecure Drive → Crea te/Manage.

79 Ex ternal devic es Ex ternal CD/DVD driv e This comput er suppor ts external CD/DVD drives with USB inter faces (optional). Check if the int er face type of the ex ternal CD-ROM dr ive is a USB type. C onnec ting the drive Connect the drive to the USB port of the computer .
External devices 80 • Do not inser t warped, cracked , or heavily scrat ched disks. Doing so can damage the drive . • Do not eject disks while the status indicator light is on. • Y our external drive may diff er from the images used in this manual.
External devices 81 • Some memor y cards may not be fully compa tible with the computer . Using an incompatible card ma y damage the computer or the memory card, or corrupt the data stored in it . • Use caution to insert the memor y card in the indicated direction.
External devices 82 3 Selec t the pop-up message to open the memor y card f older . If a pop -up message appears, click the corr esponding window → Con tinue without scanning . 4 Selec t Open folder to view files . 5 Save , move, or delet e data on the memor y card.
External devices 83 • T o use a memor y card to ex change data with a digital device , such as a digital camera, f ormatting the data with the digital device is r ecommended. • When tr ying to use a f or matted memory card in another digital device , format the memor y card again in the device .
External devices 84 C onnec ting to a display Use a VGA adapter to connect a VGA cable (15-pin) to the computer (optional). 1 Connect the VGA cable or micro HDMI cable to the corresponding port of the computer . When using a VGA cable, connect the VGA adapter to the computer first.
External devices 85 3 Connect the power c ord to the e xternal display . 4 T urn on the display and change its display mode to one that suppor ts an external input. 5 On the computer , open the Charms and selec t the Devices charm → Second screen . 6 Selec t a mode.
External devices 86 Slim security slot Secure the computer t o an objec t by connecting the securit y lock (optional) to the security slot. The security slot is designed for Samsung Security Locks only , which are sold separately . O ther security locks will not fit in the slot.
87 T r oubleshooting Reco ver/Backup When a problem oc curs with the computer , it is possible to easily reco ver the computer back to the factor y default settings by using the Recov er y application (Recov er/Back up). It is also possible to rec over the computer t o a previously backed up point.
T roubleshooting 88 2 Selec t Recov er . Reco vering t o fac tor y default Recov er the computer to factory default settings. If necessar y , back up impor tant data to an external storage devic e before restoring the sy stem. See Back ing up the current sy stem.
T roubleshooting 89 Back ing up the curren t system Back up impor tant data to an alt ernate internal drive or an external storage device r egularly to prev ent data loss . 1 When backing up to an external storage device, c onnect the device to the c omputer .
T roubleshooting 90 4 Selec t a drive under Stor ed drive → Backup . • When backing up to an external storage device, c onnect the device to the c omputer and then select the ex ternal drive . • CD/DVD drive cannot be selected. 5 F ollow the on-screen instructions to complete the backup .
T roubleshooting 91 4 Selec t a point to r ecover → Recov er . • Selec t one of your backup points . • If a backup data is stored on an internal driv e, select → the drive . Backup point 5 F ollow the on-screen instructions to complete the r estoration.
T roubleshooting 92 C opying the hard driv e (mak ing a disk image) T o replace the har d drive , move the da ta to the new drive by making a disk image. The new drive must be lar ge enough to hold the data from the curr ent drive . Pur chase an ex ternal hard driv e connector separately to c onnec t the new drive to the c omputer .
T roubleshooting 93 5 After the data is sav ed to another drive, open the co ver at the bottom of the comput er and replace the existing driv e with the new one. If the cover is difficult t o open, contact the Samsung Ser vice Cent er to request assistanc e.
T roubleshooting 94 5 F ollow the on-screen instructions to complete cr eating the disk image. 6 Disconnect the external storage device and stor e it in a safe place . T o reco ver the comput er to the factor y default settings with the factor y image, connect the external storage device .
T roubleshooting 95 Can I use the W indows 7 desktop? Curr ently , there is no way to set the desktop t o appear by default. Pr ess the Windows key ( ) and the D key simultaneously to r eveal the desktop when the Star t screen appears . This is currently the only workaround.
T roubleshooting 96 How can I star t m y computer in DOS ? T o star t the computer in DOS via a USB device: 1 T urn on the computer . 2 Befor e the Samsung logo appears, press the F2 key several times. 3 Selec t the Boot menu. 4 Set F ast BIOS M ode to Off .
T roubleshooting 97 Wh y is the capacit y repr esentation of the hard disk drive ( HDD ) in W indows diff erent from the pr oduc t specifications? The capacity of the storage device (HDD or SSD ) of the manufacturer is calculated assuming that 1KB=1,000 Bytes .
T roubleshooting 98 What is a r ecov er y image? This ref ers to specifications about the operating syst em, dr ivers , and soft war e that are con ver ted to a data image . I t is requir ed to rec over the computer and is embedded in the c omputer ’ s HDD .
99 Appendix P roduc t specifications The syst em specifications may diff er depending on the der ived models. F or detailed system specifications, r efer to the product catalogue.
Appendix 100 • Use an adjustable chair with firm, comf or table suppor t. • Adjust the height of y our chair so that thighs are horizontal to the floor and feet ar e flat on the floor . • The back of the chair should support the lower back.
Appendix 101 • When using the keyboard and t ouchpad, the shoulders should be relax ed. The upper arm and for ear m should f orm an angle that is slightly gr eater than a right angle, with the wrist and hand in almost a straight line . • Use a light touch when typing or using the touchpad and keep the hands and fingers relax ed.
Appendix 102 Hearing and v olume contr ol VOL UME Check your volume! • Ensure that v olume is not too loud before using headphones . • A void using headphones f or long per iods of time. • Default audio settings can be changed by software and driver updates without y our k nowledge .
Appendix 103 Operating c onditions • T ake at least a 10 minute break ev er y hour . • A void using the comput er in dar k locations . Use the computer with as much ambient light as y ou would when reading a book. • Indirect illumination is recommended.
