Getting Started 4 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section allows you to quickly start using your phone by installing and charging the batter y , activa ting your ser vice, setting up your voicemail, contacting customer support.
5 Batter y Y our phone is po wered by a re charge able, stand ard Li-Ion battery , and comes with a wall charger for charging. Note: The batter y comes partially charged. Y ou must fully charge the batter y before using your phone for the first time. A fully discharged batter y requires up to 4 hours of charge time.
Getting Started 6 Ins tal lin g the Bat ter y 1. Remove the batter y cover . F or more information, see “Batter y Cover” on pa ge 5. 2. Insert the top end of th e batt ery into the phone housing, aligning the gold contacts on th e top of the battery with the gold contact s on the phone.
7 Charging the B atter y Note: The batter y comes partially charged. Y ou must fully charge the batter y before using your phone for the first time. A fully discharged batter y requires up to 4 hours of charge time. After the first charge, you can use the phone while charging.
Getting Started 8 Non-Su ppor ted B atteries Samsung handsets do no t su pport the use of a non-approved batter y . Impo rtant! : Using a non-supported batter y may damage your phone. When using a non-supported batter y , you will hear a series of beeps and you will see a warning message that indicates: “ NON-SUPPORTED BA TTER Y .
9 T ur ning Y our Phone On and Off 䊳 Press and hold the End/Power key to turn the phone’ s power on or off. While powering on, the phone connects with the h ome network, then displays th e Home screen and active alerts. Set-Up W izar d The Set-Up Wizard helps you se t 9 basic parameters to get started using your phone quickly .
Getting Started 10 Locking a nd Unlocking Y our phone offers two lock func tions: locking the display , or locking the phone. Because this is a touch screen phone, locking the display prevents unintentional key presses and can minimize unnecessary batter y dr ainage.
11 V oicemail All unanswered calls to your phone a re sent to voicemail , even if your phone is turned off, s o you’ ll want to set up your voice mail and personal greeting as soon as you activate your phone. Setting up V oicemail 1. From a Home screen, touch Dial er .

Push in on the memor y card to re lease the lock an d remove memor y card from the memor y card slot. Formatting the m emor y car d Form atting erases any co ntent on the me mory card, and prepares it for use with your phone.

17 Open View of Y our Phone This touch screen phone also offers the convenience of a slide- out QWERTY keyboard. T o access the keyboard, rota te the phon e and slide t he phone o pen. When you slide the phone open, the d isplay automatica lly rotates from portrait mode to landscape mode.
Understanding Y our Phone 18 Home Screen The Home screen is your starting point for using the features of your phone. Y ou can customiz e home screens by p lacing Widgets and ch anging wallpaper . 19 Extended Home Screens The home screen ex tends beyond the displa y width to provide more space for adding widgets. Slide your finger horizont ally across the screen t o scroll to the l eft or right side of the extended home screen.
Understanding Y our Phone 20 W idgets and the W idget Bar Widgets are links to applications, tools or features, which can be docked in the Widget Bar , or on a Home screen. For a list of widgets, see “Widgets” on page 21. The Widget Bar , located at th e l eft of the home screen: • Provides quick access to w idgets.
21 Custom izing the Widge t Bar Widgets settings allow you to se lect widgets for display in the Widget Bar , making t he widgets avai lable for use from t he Widget Bar , or for placing on a home screen. Y ou can also change the order the widgets display in the Widget Bar .

Call Functions 36 T hree-way Calling Using your phone, you can merge two calls to set up three-way callin g betwee n you and two ot her parties. 1. Establish a ca ll, either by di aling or answeri ng an incoming call. 2. While th e call is in- progress w ith the first p articipa nt, dial the second phone number and touch Call .

Contacts 46 In Case of Emergency (ICE) In Case of Em ergency (IC E) allows you to set up to 3 emergency contacts, plus enter pers onal in formation that may be helpful t o others using your phone in an e mergenc y . Note: ICE contacts are displayed in red in the Contacts list.

Entering T e xt 48 Section 6: Entering T ext Y our phone provides convenient ways to enter words, letters, punctuation, and numbers when you need to enter text. This section describes se lecting the text input mode an d entering characters, using the built-i n QWERTY keyboard or the Dialer keypad.
49 Enteri ng Symbols Enter symbols by pressing the F unction key before a key , to access th e orange special characte r on the key . Y ou can also lock the keyboard in Function mo de, to enter multiple symbols. Entering Smileys Smileys communicate fe elings such as p leasure, approval or humor .
Entering T e xt 50 T ouch Screen T ext Input Buttons Using T9 W ord T9 Word is a predictive text i nput mode that recognizes common words matching the sequen ce of your key presses and inserts the most common word into your text. T9 Word requires only one key press per letter of the word and is much faster than traditiona l text entry .
51 Using 12 3 Mode Use 123 mode to enter numbe rs into a text message. 䊳 T ouch the T ext Input Mode button, then select . When entering numbers: • T ouch a key to en ter the asso ciated num ber . • T ouch to enter a space. Using Sy mbols Use Symbol mode to insert symb ols and punctuation marks into text.

59 Message Fol der s Messages are stored in the mess age folders, depending on your selections for I nbox View in Message Settings. Tip : T o scroll through all messages in the Messages, Sent, or Drafts folder , open one message and swipe your finger quickly to the left to view the previous message, or right to view the next message.

69 Bluetooth Se ttings Bluetooth settings allow you to view and change the phone’ s name, display supported profiles, and set visi bility and pairing.
