6 Section 1 Activating Y our Phone When you subscribe to a cell ular network, a plug-in SIM card is pr ovided loaded with your subscription details, suc h as your PIN an d other optional services available. 8 Section 1 Charging a Batter y Y our phone is power ed by a r echargeable Li-ion battery . Use the travel adapt er to charge the battery , and use only Samsung approv ed batteries and chargers. Note: Y ou must fully char ge the battery before using your phone for the first time.

20 Section 2 Selecting Functions and Options Y our phone offers a set of functions that can be customized for your eas e and specific needs. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-m enus , accessed using the two soft keys. Each me nu and sub- menu allows you to view and alter the settings of a particular function.

22 Section 2 Clear Key The CLR key is used to erase or clear numbers, text, or symbols fr om the display . Y ou can also use to return to a pr evious menu or to return to standby mode from any menu. • If you enter an incorrect character , briefl y press to backspace (and delete) the character .

26 Section 3 Making a Call 䡵 When the Idle scr een displays, enter the area code and phone number , and pre ss the key . Note: When you activate the Auto Redial option in th e Extra S ettings menu , the phone will automat ically redial up to 10 times when the person does not answer the call or is already on the phone.
Section 3: Call Functions 27 Making a Call Section 3 Redialing the Last Number All incoming, outgoin g, and missed calls are listed in the Recent Calls Menu. If the number or caller is liste d in your Con tacts Lis t, the name associated displays. T o access the Recent Calls menu: 1.
28 Section 3 Adjusting the Call V olume During a call, if you want to adjust the earpiece volume, use the V olume keys on the left side of the phone . Press the key to increase the volume level and the key to decrease the level. In Idle mode, you can also adjust the ringer volume using these keys.

Switching off the Microphone (Mute) Y ou can temporarily switch your phone’s micr ophone off, so that the other person cannot hear you. Example: Y ou wish to say someth ing to pe rson in the room, but do not want the person on the phone to hear you.

48 Section 5 Changing the T ext Input Mode The T ext Input option switches the key entry functions from T9 Mode, ABC Mo de, Numeric Mode, and Symbols Mode. T9 Mode This mod e allows you to en ter wo rds with only on e keystroke p er letter . Each key on the k eypad has mor e than one letter; for exampl e, pressing the 5 key can enter J, K, or L.

The display shows the total space i ncluding the used and free space. Y ou can also view how much space is currently occupied by each message box.

Section 8 92 Time & Date This menu allows you to change the current time and date displayed. Y ou can also f ind out what time it is in another part of the world. Note: Before setting the time, you must specify your time zone in the Wor ld time menu.

Section 8 94 Language Y ou can select a display language . When the language option is set to Automatic , the language is automatically selected accor d ing to the language of the SIM car d used. Depending on your country , service provider , or the software ve rsio n of the ph one, the Automatic option may not display .

Section 8 96 TTY Setting TTY [T eletypewriter — a lso known as a TDD (T elecommunication Device for the Deaf) or T ext T elephone] is a telecom munications devic e that allows people who are deaf or har d of hearing, or who have speech or language dis abili ties, to communicate using a telephone.
