Getting Started 5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your phone by first configuring your hard ware, activa ting your service, and then setting up your voice mail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use, it is ne cessary to install both t he battery and SIM into their corresponding intern al compartments.
6 Installing the Mem or y Card Y our phone also supports the use of a memory card (microSD™) for storage of such things as da ta, music, pictures, and video files. This type of memory card is designed for use with this mobile phone and other devices.
Getting Started 7 Charging a Batter y Y our phone is powered by a rech argeable Li -ion batter y . The T ravel Adapter that is used to charg e the battery , is inclu ded with your phone.

18 Th e Idl e Scre en The Idle screen provides access to man y useful phone features, including popup Widgets and function categories (Dial, Contacts, and Menu). Navigating T hr ough t he Main Menus Y our phone originally has thre e main menus, but you can add seven more main men us for a total o f ten.
Understanding Y our Phone 19 Addi ng Add iti onal Mai n Menus T o add another Main Menu, follow these steps: 1. T ouch the Menu Edit icon ( ) located at the top right of any of the Main Menus. 2. Scroll horizont ally to Main Menu 4. 3. T o uch the icon.

Dual Clock/World Clock : displays current time in other user- defined internat ional locations and find out what time it is in another part of world. 26 Calendar : allows you t o access the Calenda r feature. With the Calendar feature, you can: • Consult the calendar by month, week, or day . • Set schedules and no te anniversaries. • Write memos to keep track of your schedule. • Set an alarm to act as a reminder , if necessar y .

28 W idget Bar Navigation Y ou can drag the widgets to any of the three Idle screens to use the application or feature, then drag it back to the Widge t Bar when you are finished. The re are three different widget Idle screens you can use. Y ou can have different widgets on all three Idle screens.
Understanding Y our Phone 29 Undocking W idgets Y ou can easily customize the Widge t Bar by either k eeping these mini-apps docked within the ba r itself or undocking them by dragging anywhere onto yo ur Main display screen. 1. T o uch and h old the wi dget ( 1 ).
30 Tip: Flick the screen in an upward motion to quickly scroll through the list. Accessing M ultiple Widget Idle Screens 1. Drag your finger along the thre e bars at the top of the Idle screen to scroll through the three widget Idle screens. Y ou can scroll in either direct ion.

When the Event Widget automatically appears on the Idle screen after an event has taken place, it will automatically return to the Widget Bar after you have confirmed the event or pressed .
32 3. T ouch a Widget and then touch Get to download the Widget. 4. After you evaluate the Widget, touch Add Rating to rate the Widget. T o search for a specific Widget: 1. T ouch Search and use the o n-screen keypad to en ter a search term. 2. T ouch OK to initiate the search.
Call Functions 33 Section 3: Call Functions This section describes how to make or answer a c all. It also includes the features and functional ity associated with ma king or answering a call . For more informat ion, refer to “Call Settings” on page 118.

Call Functions 35 Making a Call from the Address Book Y ou can store phone numbers that you use regularly on the SIM card or in the phone’s memor y . These entries are co llectively called th e Address Book . For further details about the Address Book feature, see “Finding an Address Book Entry” on page 58.
36 Other Ans w ering Options When receiving an incoming cal l: • T o mute the ring tone: – Briefly press down on eit her end of the volume key ( ). – or – – When the phone is facing up ward, flip the phone over so that it is facing downward.
Call Functions 37 Video Share The Video Share fea ture allows you to place a call and share liv e or recorded video wh ile on the call. Y o u can initiate or re ceive video by using th e following steps.
38 8. A pop-up message displays Video Share has stopped. Y our recorded video “VSxxxxxxxx” is saved in the Vid eo folder in My Stuff . Tip: T o stop the Video Share call, press the Stop key. 44 Using t he Speaker pho ne Duri ng an Ac tive Call While in an active call , it is possible to enable the spe akerphone feature. 1. Dial the number and press . 2. Once the call is ans wered, slide the Speaker on bar to the right to activate the speakerphone.

46 Section 4: Entering T e xt This section outlines ho w to select the desi red text input mode when entering characters into yo ur phone. This se ction also describes how to use the T9 pred ictive text entr y system to reduce the number of key strokes associated with entering text.
Entering T ext 47 By default, the first lett er of an entry is capitali zed and all consecutive letters are ke pt in lowercase unle ss you touch the Shift key . After entering a charac ter , t he cursor automatically advances to the next space afte r two seconds or when you enter a character on a different key.
48 Note: The EMO option is available only when 123Sym mode has been selected. EMO : Press to display Emo ticons. T ouch a character on the screen. After all characters have been selected, press OK , Abc , or 123Sym . 4. Space : Press to insert an em pty space.

50 Example: Both the words “Of” and “Me” use the 6 and 3 keys. The phone displays the most commonly used choice first. 4. Press Space to insert a space a nd start the next word. T o enter a word in T9 mode while in Landsca pe Mode: 1. Begin typing a word by pressing the A through Z keys.
Entering T ext 51 T o shift case in T9 mode: 1. T o uch Shift. 2. T ouch the desired letter on the keypad. There are three cases: Initia l capital, Ca pital lock , and Lower case. T o delete l etters: 1. T o uch . 2. T o uch and h old to clear the di splay .
52 3. T ouch the left or right key to display the next set of symbols, if th e symbol does not display on t he initial screen. 4. T o clear the symbol(s), touch .

54 Section 5: Contacts and Y our Address Book This section allows you to manage your daily contacts by storing their name and number in your Address Book. Addres s Book entries can be sorted by name, entry , or group. Y ou can also synchronize your phone Address Book with A T&T Address Book, the ne twork backup service.
Contacts and Y our Address Book 55 Sa ving a Number from th e Idle Screen 1. T o uch ➔ Create Contact . This opens the Add New Contact screen. 2. T o uch the image ico n and assi gn a picture to the new entr y by choosing one of three optio ns: • Reset : although not an opti on with a new entr y , deletes any previousl y assigned image.
56 Editing an Existing Contact While in the process of cre ating a new entr y or editing an exist ing contact, you can add additional fields to the entry’ s list of information. 1. Within the ope n Contact Screen, touch Add More Fields . 2. T ouch the box next to an indi vidual field to add that field.

A list of your current contac ts, held on the SIM card, is displayed. • If the en try’s a ssociated Grou p graphic has a SIM location icon on it, then the entry exists on th e SIM card.
66 Section 6: Multimedia This section explains ho w to use the multimedia feature s of your phone, including A T&T Music, Music Player , MobiVJ, MobiTV , A T&T Radio, Mobi le Video, Video Player , Gallery , Camera, and Camcorder . A ppCenter is also di scussed, which you can use to download multim edia files.
Multimedia 67 Play Screen With the mini-player always pres ent, you can listen and access different music with one-c lick a ccess to last, currently playing music, or any radio station. All availa ble device music li braries and radio are easily available through simple touch interactions.

Multimedia 69 4. Use the USB adapter cable to connect the handset to the target PC. When an active connec tion has been established, a USB icon ( ) appears on the phone. Note: If the target computer does not detect the newly connected handset or provide an MTP Player dialog window on the PC screen, please follow steps 6 - 9.
70 Playing Music W hil e Using the Phon e The Music Player allows you to play music in the background while performing other tasks on your phone. The music pauses when an incoming call is accept ed and resumes wh en the call is ended. Music contin ues to play when you receive a T ext Message, a Multimedia Message , or an Instant Message.
Multimedia 71 Adding Songs to a Playlist 1. T o uch ➔ To o l s ➔ Music Player ➔ Playlists . 2. T ouch a previously created pl aylist from the list and touch Add T racks . 3. T o uch All music , Artis t , Album , or Genre . 4. T ouch the box next to any avai lable music file you want to add.
72 2. T ouch ➔ Settings ➔ Connectivity ➔ Select USB m ode ➔ Media player . For more information, refer to “Configuring Y our Phone’ s USB Settings” on page 134. 3. Use the USB adapter cable to connect the handset to the target PC. When an acti ve connection has been established, a USB icon ( ) appears on the phone.

Click a song from the center co lumn and drag it in to the Sync List section of the curre nt page. This then places the current song on a “wait list ” for update to the target location withi n the phone.

Multimedia 79 Using the Video Ca tegories This grouping of media categori es provides access to an additional l isting of streaming m edia. Where the pre vious Favorites list of med ia stream can be user edited and updated, this list of categories is define d by Mobile Video’s homepage and cannot be changed.
80 Parental Controls Y our phone can be configured to block both purchased and streamed media content. Before filtering, yo u must first establish a pin/password and a co ntact e-mail address.

Multimedia 83 Camera This section explains ho w to use the camera on your phone. Y ou can take photographs and shoot video by using the bu ilt-in camera function ality . Y our 2.0 megapi xel camera produces photos in JPEG format. Import ant!: Do not take photos of people without their permission.
84 4. If desired, before taking the ph oto, you can touch on-screen icons to access various camera options. 5. When viewing a picture a fter you have taken it, touch and hold the picture to zoom in on an area of the picture . Y ou can magnify the picture u p to x2.

90 Shooting Vide o Tip: When shooting video in direct sunlight or in bright conditions, it is recommended that you provide your subject with sufficient light by having the light source behind you. 1. In Idle mode, press the Camera ke y locat ed on the lower right-hand side of the ph one to ac tivate the came ra mode.

92 • Original Size ( ): allows you to change the display mode to the original size. • Full-Screen in Ratio V i ew ( ): allows you to change the display mode to the full-screen in Ratio option while the v ideo is playing. The video is enlarged as muc h as possible without becoming distorted.

94 Themes This menu option lists a pplications, colo r gra phics, and so on, by theme such as College Fo otball. 1. T ouch ➔ AppCenter ➔ Categories ➔ Themes . A list of All th emes is displayed. 2. T ouch a theme. A list of items for the selected theme di splays.

T o uch one of the f ollowing options: • My Subscriptions : lists your AppCenter subscriptions. •M y D o w n l o a d s : lists all or recent (last 30 days) download ed AppCenter items.
96 Section 7: Messaging This section describes how to send or receive different ty pes of messages. It al so includes the features and functional ity associated with messaging.
Messaging 97 Note: If the number of recipients is less than 10, all members in the Group are added. Y ou need to delete an y unnecessary members in the list by touching the recipient list and touching the trash can icon next to unwanted entries.
