17 Getting to know your phone Antenna The antenna is a device for transmitting and receiving signals. The shape and size of the antenna is determined, in part, by the frequency of the signal s that they receive. An ant enna makes th e call so und clearer when it is f ully extended .
18 Headset connector This is where the optional hand s-free headset is connected. The head set includes an earbud and microphone in a convenient, lightweight uni t so you can ta lk wi thout u sing yo ur hand s.
19 Send key The key perf orms several useful fun ctions: • Press once to answer calls. • Enter a number and press once to connect a call. • Press twice in standby mod e to redial the last outgoi ng number . Naviga tion The Navigati on key allows you to locate different menu options by pressing in the appropriate direction.
20 Se rvi ce ind ica tor : This icon indicates a call is in progress. When the phone is calling a number , this icon wil l flash until the call is connected. No service indicator : Thi s icon ind icates your phone c annot f ind a signal because you’ re outside a service area.
21 Installing the battery Note: Y our phone comes package d with a partially charged rechargeable standard Li-Ion battery and travel adapter . The phone can be used while the battery is charging, but must b e fully charged the first time you use your phone otherwise the battery could be damaged.
22 Removing the battery T o remove th e battery fro m your p hone: 1. T urn the phone off by pressing and holdi ng . 2. Push the battery release lat ch up and pull the battery aw ay from the latch. 3. Lift the bat tery away fro m the pho ne. Charging the battery Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable standard Li -Ion battery .
23 T ravel adapter Use the adaptor outl et to connect your phone to a wireless data device or a hands- free car k it (bot h sold sep arately). The dual- slot adaptor ou tlet is located at t he bottom of th e phone.
24 The empty battery icon T wo to three minu tes before the battery charge level gets too low to operate the phone, t he battery sensor will l et you k now by b linking an empty bat tery icon ( ), and sounding a tone. If you continue to operate the phone without charging the batt ery , the phone will automat ically turn off.
25 Power save mode Y our phone co mes with a power save feature that automat ically activates if you r phone is unable to find a signal afte r 15 minutes of searching. While this featu re is acti ve, the phone’ s battery c harge is conserved. T he phon e automaticall y rechecks periodi cally for a signal.
26 Press at any time to return to standby mode, but be careful; if you are on a call when you press , you will return to standby mode and disconne ct your call. Messages can also be received when in standby mode, the alert tone will sound when a new message is received.
27 Getting St arted Getting serv ice Y ou must con tact your se rvice p rovide r and fo llow th eir instru ctions for obtaining service f or your phone. We suggest that you read this user gui de to fully u nderstand the services that yo ur phon e supports.
28 T urning your phone off T o turn your ph one off: 1. Press and hold for more tha n two seconds. 2. The display screen and t he backlight go off. Note: If your phone is on, and is pressed for less than one second, the phone will not power off. T his feature prevents your phone from being turned off accidental ly .

32 Using you r phone’ s menu s Y our phone offe rs a range of functions that allow you to tailor the phon e to your personal requirements. These functions are arran ged in men us and submenus. The menus and su bmenus can b e accessed by using t he navigation k ey or using shortcuts.
33 The followi ng steps are a sample exerc ise to access games: 1. In standby mode, press to access the main menu. 2. Press for Ga mes . 3. Press for Push Pu sh .
34 Y our phon e provides the followin g voice call n otification features: • Eight ring volume settings including 1 - beep, vi brate, or si lent. • Ring t ypes and melody ton es • Name display w ith Cal ler ID. (If the caller’ s name is pr ogrammed into your Ph one Book.
35 Erase history Y ou can erase any one of the call direct ories (Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed), or you can erase all three directories. T o erase all directories: 1. In standby mode, press to display t he main menu. 2. Press for the Call s menu. 3. Press for Erase His tory .
36 4. When the call log option displays, press to locate the call informa tion you require. If th ere is a Phone Book match, the name displays. I f there is no Phone Boo k match, only the phone number will display . 5. When your selection is highlight ed you can: • Press to be connected to that party .
37 4. Press t o highlig ht an op tion. The avai lable options are: • Last Call • To t a l • Era se All • LifeT ime 5. Press to open an option, or pres s to cancel , and return to the previous screen. Last call Last call allows you to revie w the amount of time spent on t he last call you made.
38 The scre en displays t he total number of c alls, an d the tota l air time for calls made and received since you last set the T ota l air time to zero (by using the Erase All option .
39 4. Press for LifeT ime . The screen displays the total number of call s made from this phone, and the total amoun t of air time used sin ce th is phon e was set-up. Th is informati on cannot be erased. 5. Press t o return to the previ ous display screen.
40 Three way calling T o place a three way cal l: 1. Call the first party , and press . When connected, ask them to remain on the line, press and they will be pl aced on h old. 2. Call the second phone nu mber , and press . 3. When the second party answers, press and all partie s will be connected.
41 Find name This opt ion allows you to find a stored name (alphabetical ly) in the Phone Book and place a call to that name. 1. In standby mode, press to display the ma in menu. 2. Press for Phone Boo k . 3. Press for Find . 4. Press to hi ghlight th e name.
42 Find entry This option allows you to fi nd a st ored entry b y location number . 1. In standby mode, press to display the main menu. 2. Press for the Phon e Book . 3. Press f or Find E ntry . 4. Press to highli ght by En try . 5. Press to select the entry .
43 Note : All Phon e Book entries can be made secret. If you access the entry late r , you will be prom pted to enter yo ur 4-dig it user lock code. Editing phone book numbers Once stored in th e Phone B ook, an ent ry can be c hanged q uite easily . T o change a Phone Boo k entry: 1.
44 Adding pauses When you call au tomated systems (lik e banking services), you are often required to ent er a password o r account number . Instead of manu ally entering the numbers each time, you can store the numbers in your Phone Boo k separated by special characters called pause s.
45 Pause dialing from a stored entry T o pause dial from the P hone Book : 1. If you stored the number using (2 second) T pause(s), simply call the number from the Ph one Book.
46 5. Press to displa y the follow ing menu options: • Send • Ad d Phone# • Ed it • Pre pend • Era se • Send MSG . 6. Press to highl ight the Erase option. 7. Press . The phone prompts Ye s or No . 8. Press to highlight your opt ion. 9. Press to confirm (Y es) and erase the Phone Boo k entry , or press to cancel (No) the Eras e command.
47 Editing an existing e- mail address T o edit an exis tin g e-ma il add res s: 1. In standby mode, press to display the main menu. 2. Press for Phon e Boo k . 3. Press f or Find . The Phon e Boo k displays. 4. Press to highlight the entry and press .
48 Storing incoming phone numbers at the end of a call T o store a phone num ber after en ding a cal l: Note: If the cal l was incoming, and Caller ID information was unavailable, then the store optio n will also be unavailable.
49 One-touch dialing Memory locations 00 1 through 009 are special One -T ouch locations. You can call the phone numbers sto red in the Phone Book memory from 001 t hrough 009 by pressing one key . For example, for locati on number 001. Press and hold until the na me and number are displayed and cal led.
50 Memory This features saves voice and dia l calls in memory . You can save up to 500 automatic dial in your Phone Book and up t o 10 in V oice Dial. Messages Y our phone comes equip ped with several ways to send and receive messages.
51 T o continue, select fro m the follow ing two menus: 6. Press . 7. Press to highlight the Options menu and press . Select from the follo wing opt ions: • Priori ty : Allows you to assign a priority to your messages.
52 8. Press to highlight the Action menu and press . Select from t he follow ing o ption s: • Send: Al lows you to send th e message. • OK: Allows you to save the message. • CLR: Allows you to retu rn to th e previo us menu. • END: Allow s you to cancel the message and end the session.
53 T o change the input mode again: 1. Press to view t he options. 2. Press to high light your c hoice. 3. Press t o save. • T9(Engl ish) : This is the predicti ve word en try mode. Y ou can quickly and ea sily en ter freque ntly used words . • Alpha: This is the text entry mode.
54 For example, to enter the word hello, you can spell out the word by pressing only five keys, 4-3-5-5- 6. T9 T ext Input recognizes the most commonly used word for that n umber seque nce is h ello.
55 6. Enter your message data, (press to select your text entry mode), when f inished, pre ss to return to th e New Message menu. 7. If th e same message is to be sen t to multiple rec ipients, pres s to go to t he Mess age T o menu. 8. Press and enter the number you want to send.
56 5. While viewing your message press to access the following opti ons: • Ca llback • Re ply • Forwa rd • Save ad dr • Era se • Detail • Save cb# Outbox Y our phone stores messages in Outbox, regardless of whether the message was successfully transmitted.
57 Message memory capacity Y our phone can store up to 16K or 9 4 messages. The storage capacity i ncludes all received, sent, filed messa ge types, VMN (V oicemail Noti fication), and text messages. The number of messages stored, depends upo n the length of each message.

60 Reviewing stored voi cema il and text messa ges in standby mode 1. In standby mode, press , to display the Message menu . The number of received or sent messages displays next to the associated message type in the menu.

63 Launching the minibrowser Note: The first ti me you use the MiniBrowser , you will be prompted to go through a security setup process that tak es approximately three to five minutes. Note: When the security key is initially sent to the carrier , a unique value is created.
64 2. Once connected, the Home Page (or the last page visited), displa ys. Press and hold t o access the MiniBrowser . An examp le of a Home P age is shown below: Note: What appears in the display window is dependent upon the service provider content.
65 The minibrowser start and end prompts Y our phone can be set to view a prompt each time you start or end a MiniBrow ser session. Y ou have the option to change this default prompt setting. The defa ult setting may differ as it is based upon the carrier’ s requirement.
66 Naviga ting the web When you use the MiniBrowser , some of the keys on your keypad will op erate differentl y than during a normal pho ne call. The MiniBrow ser presents on-screen items in an y of .
67 Asterisk / Shift: Press this key before enteri ng text to create upper case charact ers. Y ou can also use this key to move back one space on the display screen. 0/Next: Press this k ey t o enter a 0, or to move to the next w ord when in T9 predictive word entry mode.
68 Making a phone call while using the minibrowser Y ou may initiat e a phon e call from the Min iBrowser if the si te you are using supports this fe ature (the ph one number may be highlighted and th e left soft key will ap pear as Call ). Pressing the Call soft ke y will c all the numb er .

73 Scheduler Scheduler all ows you to view in calend ar format the cu rrent month, a past month or a future month. In Sch eduler , th e current date is highli ghted on the calendar . Days with sche duled events are marked with an asteri sk(*). How to view an event 1.
74 T ask list The T ask List allows yo u to compile a li st of items to be compl eted. Your phone can store, priori tize and mana ge twenty T ask List items. Creating a task list i tem: 1. In standby mode, press for th e Calenda r . 2. Press for T ask List .
75 4. Enter the date and ti me you want to “ Count D own ” to. For example: if today’ s date is April 1, 200 1 and you want to know how many month s, days, and hours remain before 7:00 P .M. February 14th 2002, enter the time 07:00 P .M. and th e date 02/14/ 2002.
76 Y our phone only supp orts a 12 hour time displ ay , it is necessary to press eit her , or . These keys represent A.M. and P .M. respectively . Note: Once an alarm is set, an alarm clock icon displays on the screen in standby mode. When th e alarm is turned off the alarm clock icon i s removed.
77 6. Press to perfo rm the calculation and view the result, or continue to calculate with the same operator , or change the operator and continue. Every time you change the operator , the previous calculation is performed and the result is displ ayed as the bottom number on the display screen.

84 Key beep Key Beep allows you to a djust the tone length and vo lume level th at the keypad generates each time you press a key . T he display icon sho ws up to 5 level s (the loudest setting). No bars indicate that the key beep function is silenced.

87 V oice dial Y our phone features Voice Dial(ing). Using the Voice Dialing feat ure requires that you first program th e phone to recognize th e name of the person you are calling. Note: Y ou can sto re only one voice di al entry per stored name. Y ou CANNOT store multiple entries fo r a stored name.
88 4. Wait for the beep and then say the na me. For best results, use names with at le ast tw o syll ables , or use both a first an d last name. The phone stores the name as a “first” sample, and then prompts you to say the name again. 5. Respond to the prompt by rep eating the name exact ly as you did t he first time.
89 5. Press at any time to exit without removing any voice ent ries. Set active V oice dialing is always active once you have programmed the phone to accept voice entries an d associated the phon e numbers. T o place voice ac tivated calls, press and hold .
90 Push Push T o open Push Pu sh: 1. Press . 2. Press for Games. 3. Press for Push Pu sh. 4. Press to start or press for hel p. Object The objec t of the game is to push the ba lls into the li ttle house. The ba ll can be pushed lef t, righ t, up, o r down .
91 Spider Hunter T o open Spider Hunt er: 1. Press to display the menu. 2. Press for Games. 3. Press for Spi der Hunte r . 4. Press to start the game. 5. Select the level by pressing for easy or for hard. Object The object of the game is to dro p the potted plan ts on the spiders from t he top of the wall.
92 Lock phone Locking the phone limits all outgoing calls except call s to 911 emergency and the three user -programmable emergency/secret numbers. Y ou can lock the ph one manually durin g use, or set the phone to lock automati cally when it is tu rned on.
93 T o place an ou tgoing call in lock mod e: T o call 911 or a confidential number , ent er the number and then press . Lock code The d efault lock code for yo ur phon e is ge nerally t he last four dig its of your phone number . Y ou can enter a personal lock code and late r change the lock code as often a s you lik e.
94 Special #s Y our phone provide s the option of storing thre e emergency numbers. Each number can be up t o 32 di gits. All emergency n umbers can be manually c alled at any t ime even when your phone is loc ked or restri cted. Thi s can be a useful feature for c ontrolling w hat numbers can be call ed from your phone.
95 5. Press to save the number ente red. 6. Press to exit and return t o the previous menu. Calling Special #s in lock mode T o ca ll special numbers in lock mode: 1. In standby mode, use the keypad to enter the special number . 2. Press to place the call.
96 Resetting your phone Resetti ng the phone ret urns all setup opt ions to the factory defa ult setting s. T o reset the phone: 1. Press for Se curity . Enter your current lock code. 2. Press for Rese t Phon e . A co nfirmation prompt displays asking if you want to Pro ceed .
97 T o enable Au to Answe r: 1. Press for Au to Answer . The Auto A nswer screen displays. 2. Press to highli ght one of the availabl e options: • Ye s • No 3. Press to save. 4. Pressing returns you to the previous screen. Language The language optio n on your phone can change th e language of voice prompts, menus, and key-input.
98 Roaming on analog networks When you roam on analog netw orks, you will experienc e a similar quality provided by other analog carri ers today . Althou gh some calling features, such as Wireless Web, may b e unavailable, you can still make and rec eive calls.
99 Set mode Choose from t hree different set tings on your dua l-band mod e phone to c ontrol your roaming experience: 1. Press for Roaming . 2. Press for Set Mode. T o select a n opti on, scr oll to select Automatic, Home Only , or Ana log. • Automatic: This setting seeks automatically the TELUS service .
100 T o turn the Call Guard fea ture on or off: 1. Press for Call Guard . W ait briefly until a message prompt displa ys and then disappears from the disp lay screen. 2. Select Ye s or No , and press . • If the Ye s option is chosen , an extra step is re quired to make or t ake roaming calls.
101 In-use menu Y our phone includes bot h a standby menu and an In-Use menu. The In-Use menu is di splayed by pressi ng w hile the phone is b eing used du ring a cal l. The In-Use menu options are: • Mute - Mutes or ( Un)mutes your en d of a phone conversation so th at the recipient can hear nothing.
102 Usage gui delines: all about performance and s afety Understanding Signal Strength The quality of each call you make or receive, is dependent upon the signal strength in your area. Your phone inform s you o f the current signal strength by displaying a icon.
