Getting Started 5 Activating your de vice If you purchased your device at a Verizon Wireless store, it is activated and ready to use. If you received a new device by mail, it may need to be activa ted before you can use it. T o activate your device, choose from the following: • Visit a V erizon Wireless store.
6 Charging the Batter y Y our devi ce comes with a Wall /USB Charger (Outle t Connector , Charging Head and USB cable) to charge your device from any standard AC power outlet. Note: The battery comes partially charged. Y ou must fully charge the batter y before using your device for the first time.

When you turn on your device for the first time, set up a connect ion with your ex isting Google account, or create a new Googl e account.
Getting Started 9 T ask Manager Y our device can run a pplicatio ns simultaneously , with some applications running in the background. Use T ask Manager to see which applications are running on your device, and to end runni ng applications to ex tend battery life.

Entering T ext 39 Entering T ext Using Swype Swype is a new way t o enter text on touch screens. Instead of touching each key, use your finger to trace over each letter of a word. For each word, place your fi nger on the first letter and gl ide to the subseq uent letters, lifting on the last letter .

Entering T ext 41 Entering T ext Using the Samsung Keypad The Samsung Keypad is a custom virtual QWER TY keyboard, featuring predictive text. Input characters by tapping the on- screen keys with your fing er , or use speech recognit ion. As you enter characters, predic tive text matches your key touches to common words and di splays them.
42 Section 5: Messaging This section describes how to se nd and receive messages, and other features associ ated with messaging.
