K ey Functions 1. Earpiece lets you hear the caller and automated pr ompts. 2. Main Screen displa ys all the information needed to oper ate y our phone, such as the call status, the Contacts list, the date and time, and the signal and battery strength.

Viewing the Display Screen Y our phone’s displa y scr een pr ovides a wealth of information about your phone’s status and options. This list identifies the symbols you’ll see on y our phone’s displa y screen: indicates your curr ent signal str ength.

Features of Y our Phone The KA T ANA ® LX by S ANY O is lightweight, easy-to-use, and r eliable, and it also of fers many featur es and service options.
T urning Y our Phone On and Off T urning Y our Phone On © Pr ess . Once your phone is on, it may displa y “Looking for service.” When your phone finds a signal, it automatically enters standby mode. At this point, you ar e ready to begin making and r eceiving calls.
Batter y Capacity Y our phone is equipped with a Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) battery . It allows y ou to r echarge y our bat tery befor e it is fully dr ained. The bat tery pr ovides up to 4.8 hours of continuous digital talk time. When ther e ar e appr oximately two minutes of talk time lef t, the phone sounds an audible alert and then turns of f.
Charging Y our Batter y Charge your bat t ery as soon as possible so you can begin using your phone. K eeping track of y our bat tery ’s char ge is important. If your bat tery lev el becomes too low, y our phone automatically turns of f, and y ou will lose an y information you wer e just working on.
Navigating Through the Menus The na vigation k e y on your phone lets you scr oll thr ough menus quickly and easily . The scr oll bar at the right of the menu k eeps tr ack of your position in the menu at all times. T o na vigate through a menu, simply pr ess the na vigation k e y up or down.
Displaying Y our Phone Number © Pr ess > Settings > Phone Info > Phone#/User ID . (Y our phone number and other information about your phone and account will be display ed.) Making and Answering Calls Holding Y our Phone T o maximiz e performance, do not obstruct the internal antenna ar ea.
Making Calls Placing a call fr om your wir eless phone is as easy as making a call fr om any landline phone. Enter the number , pr ess , and y ou’r e on your wa y to clear calls. T o make a call using your keypad: 1. Mak e sur e your phone is on. 2.
Answering Calls 1. Mak e sur e your phone is on. (If y our phone is of f, incoming calls go to voicemail.) 2. Pr ess or to answer an incoming call. (Depending on your phone’s settings, you ma y also answer incoming calls b y opening the phone or b y pr essing any number ke y .
Answering a Roam Call With Call Guard Enabled Call Guar d is an option that helps you manage y our r oaming charges when making or r eceiving calls while outside the Sprint National Network. Please see “Roaming” on page 55 for more information about r oaming.

In-Call Options Pr essing Options (right softke y) during a call displa ys a list of a vailable in-call featur es. The following options ar e a vailable thr ough the Options menu: v Three-Way Call to call a third party . v Main Menu to displa y the phone’ s main menu.
Saving a Phone Number Y our phone can store up to 300 Contacts entries. Contacts can stor e up to a total of 500 phone numbers, and each Contacts entry’s name can contain up to 64 char acters. Y our phone automatically sorts the Contacts entries alphabetically .
T o dial or save phone numbers with pauses: 1. Enter all or part of a phone number . 2. Pr ess Options (right softke y) > Hard Pause or 2-Sec. Pause . 3. Enter additional numbers. 4. Pr ess to dial the number . –o r – Pr ess Options (right softke y) > Save to sa ve the number in y our Contacts.
P lus (+) Code Dialing When placing international calls, use Plus Code Dialing to automatically enter the international access code for your location (for example, 011 for international calls made fr om the United States) . This feature is subject to network a vailability .
Entering T ext Selecting a T ext Input Mode Y our phone pro vides conv enient ways to enter words, letters, numbers, and symbols whenever you ar e pr ompted to enter text (for example, when adding a Contacts entry or when using Sprint Mail and SMS T e xt Messaging) .
Entering Characters Using T9 T ext Input T9 T e xt Input lets you enter te xt with just one ke ypress per letter . T9 T e xt Input uses an intuitive wor d database to analyze the letters you enter and cr eate a suitable wor d. ( The wor d may change as y ou type.

Characters scroll in the following order: Entering Symbols, Smileys, Emoticons, and Preset Messages Special te xt entry sets can help speed y our messaging and Web br owsing. These sets, including symbols, smile ys, emoticons, and pr eset messages are all accessed the same wa y.

L ocation Settings Y our phone is equipped with a Location feature for use in connection with location-based services. The Location featur e allows the network to detect your position. T urning Location off will hide your location fr om e very one ex cept 911.
Setting Message Reminders When new messages arrive, y ou can choose to hav e your phone notif y you b y playing an audible alert. 1. Pr ess > Settings > Messaging > Message Reminder . 2. Select T ext Message , P icture Mail , V oicemail , or V oice SMS .

Airplane Mode Airplane Mode allows you to use man y of your phone’s featur es, such as Games, Music, or V oice Memos, etc., when you ar e in an airplane or in any other ar ea wher e making or r eceiving calls or data is pr ohibited. When your phone is in Airplane Mode, it cannot send or receiv e an y calls or access online information.
3. Select On to turn T T Y mode on. –o r – Select Off to turn T T Y mode off. Phone Setup Options Navigation K ey Shor tcuts Y ou can use the navigation k eys as shortcuts to access specific menu items dir ectly fr om standby mode. With this featur e, you can r eassign the shortcuts to the menu items you choose.

Using Y our Phone’ s L ock Feature L ocking Y our Phone When your phone is locked, y ou can only make calls to 911, Sprint Customer Service, or special numbers. (See “Using Special Numbers” on page 52.) 1. F r om the Security menu, select L ock My Phone > L ock Now .

n Delete Message to delete all messages (including lock ed ones) in the Inbo x, Sent Mail, Pending, and Dr af ts folders; all Recent Lists; and all user -cr eated pr eset messages (text messages, SMS V oice messages, etc.) . 3. Checking for V oicemail Messages While Roaming When you ar e roaming off the Sprint National Network, you ma y not r eceive on-phone notification of new voicemail messages.
Using Call Guard Y our phone has two ways of alerting y ou when you ar e r oaming of f the Sprint National Network: the onscr een r oaming icon and Call Guar d. Call Guar d makes it easy to manage your r oaming char ges by r equiring an extr a step befor e you can place or answer a r oaming call.
Using Data Roam Guard Depending on service a vailability and r oaming agr eements, your phone ma y be able to access data services while r oaming on certain digital systems. Y ou can set your phone to alert you when y ou are r oaming off the Sprint National Network and try to use data services such as messaging.

Secret Contacts Entries Y ou can hide an entry by making it secr et. The entry is not displa yed in y our Contacts. In History , a telephone number is displa yed but the Contacts entry’s name is not. T o make an entr y secret: 1. F r om the Contacts list, highlight a Contacts entry .
Dialing Sprint Ser vices Y our Contacts list is prepr ogr ammed with contact numbers for v arious Sprint services. T o dial a ser vice from your Con tacts: 1. Pr ess > Settings > More... > Contacts > Ser vices . 2. Select Customer Ser vice , Dir Assistance (Sprint 411), Account Info , or Sprint Operator .
Activating and Deactivating Wireless Backup Ser vice T o activate the wireless backup ser vice: 1. Pr ess > Settings > More... > Wireless Backup . 2. Select Subscribe .
