5 Overview The 2402 D igital T ele phone is a two-lin e digi tal teleph one fo r use with a n Avay a call p roces sing syst em. This guide c overs how to use yo ur new 24 02 Digita l T elephone . This documen t is inten ded for telephone users who have a 2402 on their de sks.

10 Call Appearance and Call Identification Displays The 2402 disp lays the status of the two ca ll appeara nces, the call er ID informa tion, th e current d ate and ti me, and i nforma tion provi ded by th e Avay a call pr ocessi ng syste m. The da te and time inform ation is prov ided by yo ur call proce ssing syste m.

17 Performing a S elf T est The Self T est option, w hich ap pears on this scre en, ve rifies the operation of the 2402 telep hone’ s lam ps and display compon ents. While the telep hone is running i n self -test mode , you ca nnot make and re ceive c alls usi ng the dialpad and call -handli ng but tons .

19 The Abbr eviated Dialing (AD) featu re allow s you to s tore sele cted t elephone numbers for qui ck and ea sy dial ing. Each n umber can be a comp lete or partial te lephon e number , an exten sion num ber , or a trunk or f eature acc ess cod e and ca n contai n up to 24 dig its.
20 T o call a n umber us ing an AD bu tton Whi le off-hook , pre s s and then the dial p ad ke y that corresp on ds to the AD numb er you wa nt to call. Y ou will hear ringback tone . For exam ple, to c all the n umber sto red as AD entry F 3, press , and then pres s 3 .
21 The Ca ll Picku p feature l ets you a nswer a call at y our tel ephone for another exten sion i n your pi ckup gro up. If y o u can us e the Dir ected C all Pic kup featu re, you c an pick u p a ca ll ringin g at a spe cific extensi on without t he extens ion being a mem ber of your pic kup group.

23 The Whis per Page feature al lows you, if you have app ropriate pe rmission s, to make an ann ounceme nt to a person at a nother extensio n currentl y on another c all. Onl y the person at the o ther exten sion hea rs the announc ement; the other p erson on t he call c annot hear the m essage.
