Get ting Start ed With PCS Service Deter mining if Y our Phone is Already A ctivat ed If you received your phone in the mail or purchased it at a Sprint Store, it probably has already been activated. All you need to do is unlock your phone. If your phone is not activated, please refer to the Star t Here Guide included with your phone.
Set ting Up Y our V oicemail All unansw ered calls to your PCS Vision Phone are automatically transf er red to your voicemail, even if your phone is in use or tur ned off. Theref ore, you will want to set up your voicemail and personal greeting as soon as your PCS Vision Phone is activated.
PCS Account P asswor ds As a PCS customer , you enjo y unlimited access to your personal account information, your voicemail account, and your PCS Vision account. T o ensure that no one else has access to your information, you will need to create passwords to protect your privacy .

Side Volume Keys: Let you adjust the receiver volume during a call or ringer volume in standby mode. 3. Ready Link/Recorder Button: Allows you to access the PCS Ready Link List or V oice Recorder menu.
8. Navigation Key: Lets you navigate quickly and easily through the menu options. Y ou can access menu shortcuts b y pressing Right : Contacts, Left : My Shortcut, Up : Messag ing, and Down : Downloads. 9. Menu/OK: Lets you access the phone’ s menus and select menu options.
V iewing the Display Screen Y our phone’ s display screen provides a wealth of information about your phone’s status and options. This list identifies the symbols you’ ll see on your phone’ s display screen: shows your cur rent signal strength.
Note: Display indicators help you manage your roaming charges by letting you know when you’re off the Sprint Nationwide PCS Network and whether you’re operating in digital or analog mode. (For more information, see Section 2D: Controlling Y our Roaming Experience on page 67.
T ur ning Y our Phone On and Of f T urning Y our Phone On T o turn your phone on: Press and hold . Once your phone is on, it displays “Looking for ser vice... ” which indicates that your phone is searching for a signal. When your phone finds a signal, it automatically enters standby mode – the phone’ s idle state.
Using Y our Phone’ s Bat tery and Charg er Batt ery Capacity Y our PCS V ision Phone is equipped with a Lithium Ion (LiIon) batter y . It allows you to recharge your batter y before it is fully drained. The batter y provides approximately 5.5 hour s of continuous digital talk time (2.
Charging the Batt ery Y our PCS V ision Phone’s LiIon batter y is rec har geab le and should be charg ed as soon as possible so you can beg in using your phone.
Displa ying Y our Phone Number Just in case you forget your phone number , your PCS Vision Phone can remind you. T o display your phone number: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Contacts and press . 3. Select My Phone# and press . Note: T o access the phone’ s main menu, press from standby mode.
Making and Answer ing Calls Making Calls Placing a call from your PCS Phone is as easy as making a call from any land line phone. Just enter the number and press and you’ re on your way to clear calls. T o place a call using your keypad: 1. Make sure your phone is on.
Dialing Options Dialing options are display ed when you press Options (right softkey) after entering number s in the phone’ s standb y mode. T o select an option, highlight it and press . Call to dial the phone number . Call:Speaker On to dial the phone number in speakerphone mode.
Answer ing Calls T o answer an incoming call: 1. Make sure your phone is on. (If your phone is off, incoming calls go to voicemail.) 2. Press or Speaker (left softkey) to ans wer an incoming call. (Depending on your phone’ s settings, you may also ans wer incoming calls by pressing any number key .
Answer ing a Roam Call With Call Guard Enabled Call Guard is an option that helps you manage your roaming charges when making or receiving calls while outside the Spr int Nationwide PCS Networ k. Please see Section 2D: Controlling Y our Roaming Experience for more information about roaming.
Changing the Ringer V olume T o change the r inger volume, press the Side V olume keys when the phone is in standby mode. Note: T o change the ringer volume from the main menu, see “Adjusting the Phone’ s V olume Settings” on page 39.
Calling Emerg ency Numbers Y ou can place calls to 911 (dial and press or Speaker [left softkey]), even if your phone is locked or your account is restricted. Once you dial the numbers, your phone will enter Emergency mode. Press Options (right softke y) to display the options.
In-Call Options During a call, your phone displays menu options when you press Options (right softke y). T o select an option, highlight it and press . Flash to answ er an incoming Call W aiting call or to connect a third party dur ing Three-W ay Calling.
End-of-Call Options T o display the following options, press Options (r ight softkey) within 10 seconds after disconnecting a call. T o select an option, highlight it and press . Call Again to dial the phone number . Call:Speaker On to dial the phone number in speakerphone mode.
Finding a Phone Number Y ou can searc h Contacts list entries for phone numbers that contain a specific string of number s. T o find a phone number: 1. Enter the last four or more dig its of the number and press Options (right softke y). The more numbers you enter , the more specific the search becomes.
Dialing Fr om the Contacts Dir ectory T o dial dir ectly from a Contacts entry: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Contacts and press . 3. Select Find/Add Entry and press . Shortcut: Press the navigation key right to list entries. 4. Use your navigation ke y to scroll through the Contacts list, highlight your desired entr y , and press .
Using Speed Dialing With this feature, you can dial your fav or ite entries using one key press for locations 2-9. (See “ Assigning Speed Dial Number s” on pa ge 88.) T o use speed dial for voice calls: From standb y mode, press and hold the appropr iate key for approximately two seconds.
Ent er ing T ext Selecting a Char acter Input Mode Y our PCS V ision Phone provides convenient ways to enter wor ds, letters, punctuation, and number s whenever you are prompted to enter te xt (f or e xample, when adding a Contacts entr y or when sending email messages).
Enter ing Char acters Using T9 T ext Input T9 T ext Input lets you enter text in your PCS V ision Phone b y pressing keys just once per letter . (T o select the T9 Word mode when entering text, see “Selecting a Character Input Mode” on the previous page.
Enter ing Char acters by T apping the Ke ypad T o enter characters by tapping the keypad, select the Alphabet mode (see “Selecting a Character Input Mode” on page 29). Press the corresponding key repeatedl y until the desired character appears. By default, the first letter of an entr y is capitalized and following letters are lowercase.
Enter ing S ymbols, Numbers, Preset Suf fixes, and Smileys T o enter symbols: 1. In a text entr y field, press Mode (r ight softkey). 2. Highlight SYMBOL and press . 3. Highlight the line that includes your desired symbol. 4. Press the corresponding key (1-8) with each symbol.

Sound Set tings Ringer T ypes Ringer types help you identify incoming calls and messages. Y ou can assign ringer types to individual Contacts entr ies, types of calls, and types of messages. Preprogrammed Ringers include a var iety of standard ringer types and familiar music.
T o select a distinctive ring er for voice calls while r oaming: 1. Follow steps 1-5 on the previous page. 2. Select the menu under Roaming and press . 3. Select Distinctive and press . T o confirm the ringer , press Play (right softke y). If you want to deactivate this feature, select Normal during step 3 above.
Selecting Ring er T ypes for Missed PCS Ready Link Calls T o select a r inger type for Missed PCS Ready Link calls: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Sounds and press . 4. Select Ringer T ype and press . 5. Select R-Link Missed and press .

Adjusting the Phone’ s V olume Settings Y ou can adjust your phone’s volume settings to suit your needs and your environment. T o adjust the r inger, start-up/po wer -off , or ke y beep volume: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press .
Alert Notification Y our PCS Phone can alert you with an audible tone when you chang e service areas, once a minute during a voice call or a PCS Ready Link call, or when a call has been connected. Service sets alert on or off for networ k ser vices parameter chang es.
Silence All There may be times when you need to silence your phone entirely . The phone’ s Silence All option allows you to mute all sounds without turning your phone off. T o activat e Silence All: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press .
Displa y Settings Changing the T ext Greeting The te xt gr eeting can be up to fifteen characters and is displayed on your phone’s screen in standby mode. Y ou may choose to display a custom greeting or you may display “Spr int” on the phone’ s screen.
Changing the Backlight Time Length The backlight setting lets you select how long the display screen and keypad are backlit after any key press is made. T o change the LCD backlight setting: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press .
Changing the Displa y Screen Animation Y our new PCS Vision Phone offers options f or what you see on the display screen dur ing various phone functions. T o change the display animation: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press .
Changing the Displa y f or Incoming Calls Y ou can set the color or downloaded image to be shown on the Incoming Calls display . T o set y our incoming calls display: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Display and press .
Changing the Displa y f or Standby Mode This featur e enables you to select a var iety of items to display in standby mode. T o set y our standb y display: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Display and press . 4.
Changing the Scr een Sa ver Y our new PCS Phone offers you the option of displaying a screen saver while in standb y mode. T o assign a scr een sa ver: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Display and press . 4. Select Standby Display and press .
Changing the Contr ast Y ou can customize the display’ s contrast of your phone. T o change the display ’ s contrast: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Display and press . 4. Select Contrast and press . 5. Select your desired contrast and press .
Location Set tings Y our PCS V ision Phone is equipped with a Location feature for use in connection with location-based ser vices that may be available in the future. The Location feature allows the network to detect your position. T urning Location of f will hide your location from ever yone e xcept 911.
Air plane Mode Airplane Mode allows you to use many of your phone’ s features, such as Games, V oice Recorder , etc., when you are in an airplane or in any other area where making or receiving calls or data is prohibited. When your phone is in Airplane Mode, it cannot send or receiv e any calls or access online information.
T TY Use With PCS Service Fr om Spr int A TTY (also known as a TDD or T ext T elephone) is a telecommunications device that allows people who are deaf or hard of hearing, or who have speech or language disabilities, to communicate by telephone. Y our phone is compatible with select TTY devices.
Phone Set up Options Shortcut Y our phone offers you the option of assigning a shor tcut key to a fav or ite or often-used function. Pressing the navigation key to the left in standby mode will launch your personally designated shor tcut. T o assign y our shor tcut k ey: 1.
Setting An y Ke y Answer This featur e allows you to answer incoming calls b y pressing any ke y (e xcept , , , , / , Softkey [right], or Navigation Key). T o activat e this f eatur e: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3.
Headset Mode This featur e allows you hands-free phone use. Set the headset mode to V oice Call or Ready Link and press the T urbo Button (the operation button) on the headset to activate useful functions. T o set headset mode: 1. Press to access the main menu.
Setting Messag e Notification Y ou can see a pop-up message notification when you receive a text message or V oicemail while you are in PCS Vision applications, browser mode, or V oice Calls. T o set messag e notification: 1. Press to access the main menu.
Setting Y our Callback Number With this feature, you can send a callback number with your text message. 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Messaging and press . 4. Select Send Callback# and press . 5. Select an option from the following and press .
Display Languag e Y ou can choose to display your PCS Phone’ s onscreen menus in English or in Spanish. T o assign a language for the phone’ s display: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Others and press . 4.

A ccessing the Secur ity Menu All of your phone’ s security settings are available through the Security menu. Y ou must enter your lock code to view the Security menu. T o access the Secur ity menu: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press .
Using Y our Phone’ s Loc k Feat ur e Locking Y our Phone When your phone is locked, you can only receive incoming calls or make calls to 911, PCS Customer Solutions, or special numbers. T o lock your phone: 1. From the Secur ity menu (see “ Accessing the Security Menu” on the previous page), select Lock Phone and press .
Changing the Lock Code T o change your lock code: 1. From the Secur ity Menu display (see “ Accessing the Secur ity Menu” on page 59), select Others and press . 2. Select Change Lock and press . 3. Enter a new lock code, (“1234” for example) under New Code .
Restr icting Calls There may be occasions when you want to limit the number s your phone can call or from which it can receive calls. Y ou can use the Restrict Calls setting to do just that. (The Restrict Calls setting does not apply to 911 or PCS Customer Solutions.
Using Special Numbers Special numbers are impor tant numbers that you have designated as being “always available. ” Y ou can call and receive calls from special numbers even if your phone is locked. Y ou can save 3 special number s in addition to your Contacts entries (the same number may be in both directories).
Er asing the Contacts Dir ectory Y ou can quickl y and easily erase all of the contents of your Contacts Director y . T o erase all the names and phone numbers in your Contacts Directory: 1. From the Secur ity Menu display (see “ Accessing the Secur ity Menu” on page 59), select Erase Ph.
Reset ting and Locking Y our Phone Through SMS When your phone is lost or stolen, you can erase your impor tant personal information (such as Contacts entr ies, call histor y , and messages) and lock your phone b y sending a special formatted SMS message to your phone.
Secur ity F eatur es f or PCS V ision SM Enabling and Disabling PCS Vision Services Y ou can disable PCS V ision services without tur ning of f your phone; howev er , you will not have access to all PCS V ision services, including W eb and messaging. Disabling PCS Vision will avoid any charg es associated with PCS Vision ser vices.

Understanding Roaming Recognizing Icons on the Display Screen Y our phone’ s display screen always lets you know when you’ re of f the Sprint Nationwide PCS Networ k and whether your phone is operating in analog or digital mode. The following chart indicates what you’ ll see depending on where you’ re using your phone.
Roaming on Analog Networ ks When you roam on analog networ ks, you will experience a similar quality provided by other analog car rier s today . Although some featur es, such as PCS Vision, PCS Ready Link, and PCS V oice Command, will be unavailable, you can still make and receive calls and access voicemail.
Checking for V oicemail Messages While Roaming When you are roaming of f the Sprint Nationwide PCS Networ k, you may not receive on-phone notification of new voicemail messa ges.
Contr olling Roaming Charg es Using Call Guar d Y our phone has two ways of alerting you when you are roaming off the Sprint Nationwide PCS Networ k: the onscreen roaming icon and Call Guard. Call Guard makes it easy to manage your roaming charges by requiring an extra step before you can place or answ er a roaming call.

V iewing Hist ory Y ou’ll find the Call Histor y featur e ver y helpful. The y are lists of the last 20 voice calls and the last 10 Ready Link calls that you placed, accepted, or missed.
Call Hist ory Options For additional information and options on a particular call, highlight a Call Histor y entr y and press Options (r ight softkey). Call to dial the phone number . Call:Speaker On to dial the phone number in speakerphone mode.

Finding Contacts List Entr ies There are several ways to display your Contacts entries: by name, b y speed dial number , b y group, and by voice dial tags. Follow the steps outlined in the sections below to display entries from the Contacts list menu.
Finding Speed Dial Numbers T o find phone numbers you have stor ed in speed dial locations: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Contacts and press . 3. Select Speed Dial #s and press . (The Speed Dial numbers list appears.) Finding V oice Dial Numbers T o find phone numbers you have stor ed in V oice Dial: 1.
Contacts List Entry Options T o access a contact’s options, display the Contacts list, highlight an entr y , and press . Then select a phone number and press Options (right softke y). T o select an option, highlight it and press . Edit to edit the selected entr y .
A dding a Phone Number t o a Contacts Entry T o add a phone number to an entry: 1. From standb y mode, press the navigation key right to display the Contacts list. 2. Highlight the entr y you wish to add a phone number and press . 3. Highlight a phone number , press Options (r ight softkey), highlight Edit , and press .
Assigning Speed Dial Numbers With this feature you can dial Contacts Director y entr ies with one key press for locations 2-9. Save your memor y locations 2-9 for speed dialing your most commonly used phone number s. Speed Dial numbers must be stored in your Contacts to use this feature.
Editing a Contacts Entry T o make chang es to an entry: 1. Press the navigation key r ight. 2. Highlight the entr y you wish to edit and press . 3. Highlight a phone number , press Options (r ight softkey), highlight Edit , and press . – or – Highlight an email address or W eb address and press Edit (right softkey).
6. Highlight your desired r inger type and press . Ringer T ype to select a ringer type. Scroll through available ringers to hear previews. Ringer & V oice to notify you with Ringer and V oice. Vibrate to notify you by vibrating. Normal to set Ringer to the incoming calls setting (see page 34).
Secr et Contacts Entr ies Y ou can hide an entr y’ s phone number(s) and requir e your lock code to edit the entr y b y making it secret. The entr y name is still displayed, but the entr y’ s phone number s are replaced with “<Secret>”. T o make an entry secret: 1.

Sending a Message With Messag ing, you can use a person’s wireless phone number to send and receive instant text messages from your PCS Vision Phone to their messaging-ready phone – and they can send messages to you.
