8 Using the Softkeys The softkeys are the fo ur unlabel ed roun d keys loc ated direc tly belo w the displ ay . The f our roun d di spla y con tr ol but to ns, l abe led Menu , Exit , Prev , and Next are loc ated under the softke ys.
9 The top line of each s oftke y feature m enu scre en shows y ou the status o f each of t he four features. An arrow appea rs abo ve the fea ture name or abbrevia tion if tha t featu re is acti ve. In the above ex ample, th e arrow a bove the T imer feature indicates th at feat ure is act ive.
10 The Hold feature puts a call on hold unti l you can return t o it. T o put a call on hold while you answer ano ther call or perfo rm another task 1. Press . T o answer a new call while active on a nother 1. Press . 2. Press the c all appea rance but ton of t he incoming call.
11 If yo u hav e a di spl ay , i t sho ws th e vol ume leve l: (T here are eigh t volu me lev el s.) T o turn off the speaker an d return to h andset 1. Pick up the hands et. T o end a call (while the hand set is on-hoo k and on ly the speak er is active) 1.
12 4. If you hav e a disp lay , it shows t he vol ume leve l: (There are eight volume levels.) T o change from th e speaker phone to the handset 1. Pick up th e handset and talk. T o change from th e handset to the speakerp hone 1. Press . 2. Within 10 s econds, hang u p the hand set.

14 Selected V oice Features The Abbreviated D ialing (AD ) feature allows you to st ore selec ted teleph one numbers for quic k and eas y dia ling. Each number c an be a c omplete o r partial teleph one numb er , an extens ion numb er , or a trunk o r feature access code.
15 For 6408 D+, 6416D + and 6416 D+M, and 6424D+ and 6424D +M telephones connect ed to a DEF INITY ECS Relea se 6.3 or late r T o program an Abbrevia ted Dialing bu tton on the soft key fea ture menu .
16 T o place an AD call 1. Press the s elected A D button, either a feature b utton or the softk ey below the AD featu re on the fe ature menu screens . T o program or reprogram an outside n umber , extension , or feature access code in to an AD pers onal list 1.

23 The Dire ctory fea ture allow s you to search fo r the extensi on of a nother us er in your l ocation b y keyin g in the u ser ’s n ame at the dial pad . T o search the dir ectory for a name 1. Press the Menu button a nd then pre ss the softk ey below Di r or , if Dir is not avail able on your displ ay , press the button (if adminis tere d).
