CONTROLS AND INSTR UMENT 4.1 IDENTIFICA TION Bef ore operating the mower , f amiliarize yourself with all mow er and engine controls.

14 R Section 4 ST AR TING THE ENGINE 4.4 CA UTION DO NO T USE ST ARTING FLUIDS. Use of starting fluids in the air intake system may be potentiall y explosive or cause a “runawa y” engine condition that could result in engine damage and/or personal injury .
15 R Section 4 REvERSE TRA vEL CA UTION Disengage power to the mower before backing up. Do not mow in reverse unless absolutely necessary and then only after observ ation of the entire area behind the mower . CA UTION Before backing up, observe the rear for persons and obstructions.
16 R Section 4 HILLSIDE OPERA TION 4.7 W ARNING DO NO T operate on steep slopes. T o check a slope, attempt to back up it (with the cutter dec k down). If the machine can bac k up the slope without the wheels slipping, reduce speed and use extreme caution.

23 R Section 6 P ARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENT 6.1 W ARNING Do not operate the mower if the parking brake is not operable . P ossible severe injury could result. The parking brak e linkage should be adjusted whene ver the par king brake lev er is placed in the “ENGA GE” position and the parking brak e will allo w the mow er to mov e.
24 R Section 6 TRA vEL ADJUSTMENTS 6.2 Neutral or trac king adjustments will need to be made if: A . The steering control le vers are in the neutral position and the machine creeps forw ard or backward.

CUTTER DECK ADJUSTMENTS 6.6 Cutter dec k le vel, pitch and height are set at the factory .
27 R Section 6 - No te - T o pre vent the cutter deck from teetering, all f our (4) cutter deck hanging chains m ust ha ve tension on them. If all four chains do not hav e tension on them and the dec k teeters, you must readjust the cutter deck as outlined in the procedures abo ve .
28 R Section 6 CUST OM-CUT B AFFLE ADJUSTMENT The Custom-Cut Baffle is designed to deliver optimum airflow and superior cutting perf ormance in any type of grass . The Custom-Cut Baffle can be raised or lowered to precisely tailor the deck's performance for the type of grass being cut.
29 R Section 6 ELECTRIC CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT 6.7 The electr ic clutch ser v es two functions in the operation of the mo wer . In addition to star ting and stopping the pow er flow to the cutter blades , the clutch also acts as a brak e to assist in stopping blade rotation when the PT O is switched off or the operator presence circuit is interrupted.

33 R Section 7 B. CHANGING HYDRA ULIC OIL The hydraulic oil should be changed after ev er y 500 hours or annually , whichev er occurs first. The oil should also be changed if the color of the fluid has become black or milky .
34 R Section 7 C. CHANGING ENGINE OIL FIL TER After the first 20 hours of operation, replace the engine oil filter . Thereafter , replace the oil filter after e ver y 200 hours of operation or e very month, whiche ver occurs first. Ref er to Engine Operator’ s Manual for instructions (See Figure 7-4).
35 R Section 7 B. REPLA CING IN-LINE FUEL FIL TER ELEMENTS - No te - The fuel filter is located below the air filter . Figure 7-5 is f or illustration pur poses only . The in-line pre-filter (K ubota engine only) and the engine fuel filter (Figure 7-5) should be replaced after ev er y 500 hours of operation or annually , whichev er occurs first.
36 R Section 7 B. CHARGING THE BA TTER Y Ref er to the batter y charger’ s manual for specific instructions. Under nor mal conditions the engine’ s alternator will hav e no prob lem keeping a charge on the batter y .
