3.0 A TA in ter face This drive us es the industry-st andard A TA tas k file interface. It support s both 8-bit and 16-bit data tr ansfers. I t supports ATA pr ogrammed in- put/output (P IO) modes 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4; ATA single-wor d DMA modes 0, 1 and 2; and A TA multiword DMA modes 0, 1 and 2.

3.2. 3 Set Feat ures c ommand This command controls the implementation of various features that the drive supports. When the drive receives this command, it sets BSY, checks t he contents of the Featur es registe r, clears BSY and generat es an interrupt .
3.2.4 S.M .A.R. T. commands Self-Monit oring, Analysi s and Reporting T echnology ( S.M.A.R.T.) is an emerging technology that provides near-term fail ure prediction for disc drives. W hen S.M.A.R.T. is enabled, the S eagate drive monitors prede- termined driv e attributes t hat are susceptible to degradati on over time.
