3 1 Getting star ted 1 GETTING ST AR TED This chapter provides basic inf or mation f or using the copier . INTR ODUCTION This copier has been designed to provide intuitiv e operating ease while requiring a minimum amount of space. T o get full use of all copier f eatures, be sure to f amiliarize yourself with this manual and the copier .
4 1 Getting star ted CA UTIONS ● Place the copier on a firm, lev el surf ace. ● Do not install the copier in a humid or dusty location. ● When the copier is not used f or long time, f or example f or consecutiv e holidays, tur n the po wer s witch off and remove the po wer cord from the outlet.
5 1 Getting star ted MAIN FEA TURES Substantial copying functions ● Zoom cop ying from 50% to 200% in 1% increments can be performed. ● Continuous cop ying of maximum 99 sheets can also be perf or med. ● A utomatic document feeding through the single pass f eeder (SPF) can be performed.

8 2 Installation 2 INST ALLA TION F ollow the installation procedure below to use the copier properly . COPIER INST ALLA TION Improper installation ma y damage the copier . Please note the follo wing during initial installation and whenev er the copier is moved.
9 2 Installation Be sure to allow the required space ar ound the machine f or ser vicing and pr oper ventilation. A small amount of ozone is produced within the copier during operation. The emission le vel is insufficient to cause an y health hazard. NO TE: The present recommended long ter m e xposure limit f or ozone is 0.

11 2 Installation REMO VING PR O TECTIVE P A CKING MA TERIALS 1 Remov e all pieces of tape shown in the illustration belo w . Then open the or iginal cov er and remov e protectiv e mater ials , and . 2 Use a coin (or suitable object) to remo ve the scre w .
12 2 Installation INST ALLING THE TD CAR TRIDGE 1 Open the side cov er while pressing the side cov er open button. 2 Remov e the CA UTION tape from the front cov er and remove the tw o protective pins from the fusing unit by pulling the strings upward one at a time .
13 2 Installation INST ALLING THE TD CARTRIDGE 5 Gently inser t the TD car tridge until it locks in place. 6 Close the front cov er and then the side cov er by pressing the round projections near the side cov er open button. When closing the cov ers, be sure to close the front cov er securely and then close the side cov er .
14 2 Installation LO ADING COPY P APER 2 Remov e the pressure plate lock. Rotate the pressure plate lock in the direction of the arrow to remov e it while pressing down the pressure plate of the paper tr ay .
15 2 Installation LO ADING COPY P APER 6 Gently push the paper tra y back into the copier . After loading cop y paper , to cancel the b linking “ P ” without restar ting copying, press the clear ( ) ke y . The “ P ” in the display will go out and the ready ( ) indicator will light up .
16 2 Installation PO WER ON T ur n the po wer s witch on the left side of the copier to the “ ON ” position. The ready ( ) indicator will light up and other indicators which show the initial settings of the operation panel will also light up to indicate the ready condition.
17 3 Making copies 3 MAKING COPIES This chapter describes basic copying functions and some other cop ying functions using the manual b ypass. 18 3 Making copies NORMAL COPYING This copier has two document input stations - a single pass f eeder (SPF) for automatic document f eeding and an or iginal tab le f or manual handling of documents. The SPF is designed to hold up to 30 originals measuring from 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" to 8-1/2" x 14" and weighing from 14 to 23 lbs.
19 3 Making copies NORMAL COPYING ZOOM Tens digit Unit digit B. When using the original table: (1) Open the original cov er . (2) Place an original f ace down on the or iginal tab le. Align it with the or iginal scale and the centering ( ) mark. Close the original cov er .
20 3 Making copies NORMAL COPYING 5 Press the print ( ) ke y . ● T o displa y the number of copies made in a continuous run, press the left cop y quantity ke y . ● T o stop cop ying in the middle of a run, press the clear ( ) k ey . Copying will stop and the number in the displa y will be reset to “ 0 ” .
21 3 Making copies 3 Use the light ( ) and dar k ( ) k eys to adjust the e xposure le vel. If e xposure lev el 2 is selected, the two left-handmost indicators f or that le vel will light up simultaneously . Also, if le v el 4 is selected, the two r ight-handmost indicators f or that lev el will light up simultaneously .
22 3 Making copies REDUCTION/ENLARGEMENT/ZOOM 3 Set the number of copies using the cop y quantity ( , ) keys and press the print ( ) k ey . BYP ASS FEED (special paper) The single-sheet manual b ypass.
23 3 Making copies TW O-SIDED COPYING T wo-sided cop ying can be made on this copier using the manual b ypass. Example: The fo llowing two originals will be copied onto two sides of copy paper . F ace up First original Second original F ace up or face do wn F ace down 1 Place the first original on the or iginal tab le and make a cop y .
24 4 Special functions SPECIAL FUNCTIONS DESCRIPTION OF SPECIAL FUNCTIONS This chapter describes the special functions of this copier . Use these functions as needed.
25 4 Special functions T ONER SA VE MODE 2 Press and hold down the e xposure mode selector ke y for appro ximately 5 seconds . The manual ( ) indicator will go out and the photo ( ) indicator will begin to blink. The exposure indicator mark ed “ 5 ” will light up , indicating the standard toner mode is activ e.
26 4 Special functions USER PROGRAMS 3 Press the print ( ) ke y . The entered program number will be steadily lit and the currently selected parameter number f or the program will blink on the right side of the displa y . 4 Select the desired parameter using the right cop y quantity ( ) ke y .
27 5 Supplies and user maintenance 5 SUPPLIES AND USER MAINTENANCE This chapter describes how to replace the TD car tr idge and the drum car tr idge . Be sure to use only genuine SHARP par ts and supplies . TD CAR TRIDGE REPLA CEMENT The TD car tridge replacement required ( ) indicator will light up when toner is needed.
28 5 Supplies and user maintenance TD CARTRIDGE REPLA CEMENT 3 Install a new TD car tr idge. T o install the new car tridge, see page 12, INST ALLING THE TD CAR TRIDGE . 4 Close the front cov er and then the side cov er by pressing the round projections near the side cov er open button.
29 5 Supplies and user maintenance DRUM CAR TRIDGE REPLA CEMENT 4 Remov e the new drum car tridge from the protective bag and remov e the protective cov er from the car tridge. Then gently install the ne w dr um car tridge. Do not touch the surf ace of the drum (green por tion) of the car tridge.
30 5 Supplies and user maintenance USER MAINTENANCE Proper care is essential in order to get clean, shar p copies. Be sure to take a f ew min utes to regularly clean the copier . Bef ore cleaning, be sure to tur n the power s witch off and remov e the power cord from the outlet.

Clean the charger using the follo wing procedure. 1 T ur n the po wer s witch off. 2 Open the side cov er while pressing the side cov er open button.
32 5 Supplies and user maintenance When copier is not in use T o prev ent entr y of dust and f oreign matter , store the copier as follo ws. 1 Remov e the power cord and secure the copier using tape (f our locations).
33 6 Copier trouble? 6 COPIER TR OUBLE? This chapter describes misfeed remov al and troubleshooting. MISFEED REMO V AL When the misfeed ( ) indicator b links or b links in the display , the copier will stop because of a misfeed. If a misf eed occurs when using the SPF , a number ma y appear in the display after a min us sign.
34 6 Copier trouble? MISFEED REMO V AL A Misfeed in the paper feed area 1 Gently remov e the misf ed paper from the paper feed area as sho wn in the illustration. When b links in the display and the misf ed paper is not seen from the paper feed area, pull out the paper tra y and remov e the misf ed paper .
35 6 Copier trouble? MISFEED REMO V AL ● Do not touch the surf ace of the drum (green por tion) of the dr um cartr idge when removing the misf ed paper . Doing so ma y cause smudges on copies. ● Do not remov e the misf ed paper from abov e the fusing unit.
36 6 Copier trouble? 3 Rotate the f eeding roller in the direction of the arrow and gently remov e the misf ed paper from the e xit area. F eeding roller 4 Raise the fusing unit release lev er , close the front cov er and then close the side cov er b y pressing the round projections near the side cov er open button.
37 6 Copier trouble? MISFEED REMO V AL (B) Open the original cov er and rotate the roller rotating knob to remov e the misfed original from the e xit area. If the misfed original cannot be easily remov ed, proceed to (C) under the feeding roller without pulling the original forcib ly .
