3 CAUTIONS Installation notes Adjuster Release Lock CAUTION Do not install the machine on an unstable or slanted surface. Install the machine on a surface that can withstand the weight of the machine. Risk of injury due to the machine falling or toppling.

8 DIGITAL MULTIFUNCTIONAL SYSTEM FUNCTIONS This machine pr ovides four majo r areas of function ality. Refer to the Opera tion Guide for details on us ing the various functio ns within each area. *1 The printer expansion kit is required. *2 The facsimile expa nsion kit is required.
9 ACCESSING THE WEB SERVER IN THE MACHINE When the machine is connected to a network, th e machine's built-i n Web server can be accessed from a Web br owser on your com puter. 10 CHECKING THE IP ADDRESS To check th e IP address o f the mach ine, print out the all custo m setting list in t he system se ttings. 1 Press the [SYSTEM SETTINGS] key. 2 Select the all custom setting list in the touch panel. (1) Touch the [List Print (User)] key.

12 PART NAMES AND FUNCTIONS AUTOMATIC DOCUMENT FEEDER AND DOCUMENT GLASS (1) Document feeding area cover Open this cover to remove an original misfeed or cl ean the paper feed ro ller. (2) Original guides These help ensure that the original is scanned corre ctly.
13 PART NAMES AND FUNCTIONS SIDE AND BACK (1) USB connector (A type) Supports USB 2.0 (Hi-Speed). This is used to connect a USB device such as USB memor y to the mach ine. (2) LAN co nnector Connect the LAN cable to this connector when the machine is used on a network.

15 OPERATIO N PANEL LOGOUT Main power indicator [CLEAR ALL] key Press this ke y to redo an operation from the beginning. All settings will be cleared and operation will return to the initial state. [ST OP] key Press this ke y to stop a cop y job or scanning of an original.
16 TURNING THE POWER ON AND OFF The machine has two po wer switches. The main powe r switch is at the top righ t after the fron t cover is opened. The other powe r switch is the [POWER] key ( ) on the ope ration pane l at the top r ight.
17 PLACING ORIGINALS The automatic docum ent feeder can be used to automatically sc an ma ny originals at once . This saves you the trouble of manually feeding each original. For originals that canno t be scanned using the automa tic do cument feeder , such as a book or a document with no tes attached, use the do cument glass.
18 PLACING ORIGINALS USEABLE PAPER Various types of paper are sold. Th is section explains what plain paper and what special media can be used with the machine.
19 PLACING ORIGINALS Print side face up or face down Paper is loaded wit h the print side face up or face do wn depending on th e paper type and tra y. Trays 1 to 4 Load the paper with the print side face up. However, if the paper type is "Letter Head" or "Pre-P rinted", load the paper with the print side face down*.
20 LOADING PAPER IN A TRAY Names of the trays The names of the tr ays are shown below. For the number of sheets of paper that can be loaded in each tray, see t he following manual s: • Operation G uide, "Paper Tra y Settings" in "7 .
21 LOADING PAPER IN A TRAY Loading paper in paper tray 1 - tray 2 8-1/2" x 11" or A4 size paper can be loaded in t ray 1 and tray 2. If yo u wish to change the pap er size of tray 1 or tray 2, see "CHANGING THE PAP ER SIZE IN PAPER TRAY 1 - TRAY 2" in the Operation Guide.
22 LOADING PAPER IN A TRAY Changing the tray settings When you change the paper in a tray, t he tray settings in the system setti ngs must also be changed. 1 Press the [SYSTEM SETTINGS] key. 2 Configure the tray set tings in the touch panel. (1) Touch the [Paper Tray Settings] key.
23 LOADING PAPER IN A TRAY Loading paper in other trays Bypass tray The side to be copied on must be face up! When loading 11" x 17", 8 -1/2" x 14", 8 -1/2" x 13", 8 -1/2" x 11"R, A3, B4, or A4R size paper , pull out the tray e xtension.
24 LOADING PAPER IN A TRAY A4 large capacity tray The paper size of tra y 5 can only be changed by a service technician. Gently pull out the paper tra y . Indicator line The indicator line indicates the maximum height of the paper that can be loaded in the tray .
25 LOADING PAPER IN A TRAY A3 large capacity tray To change the paper size of tray 5, see "TRAY SETTING S OF TRAY 5 (A4 LARGE CAPACITY TRAY)" in the Operation Guide. Press the operation button and wait until the operation button indicator turns off .

30 BEFORE INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE CONNECTING THE MACHINE CONNECTING TO A NETWORK To connect the mach ine to a network, connect th e LAN cable to the machine's ne twork connector.
31 SETUP IN A WINDOWS ENVIRONMENT This section explains how to install th e software and configure sett ings so that the printer and scanner function of the machine can be used with a Windows computer.
32 SETUP IN A WINDOWS ENVIRONMENT INSTALLING THE PRINTER DRIVER / PC-FAX DRIVER To install the printer driver or the PC-Fax driver, follo w the approp riate procedure in this section depending on whether the machine is connected to a ne twork or connected by USB cable.
33 SETUP IN A WINDOWS ENVIRONMENT 2 Click the [Standard installation] button. 3 Printers connected to the network are detected. Select the machine and click the [Next] button. 4 A confirmation window appears. Check the contents and then click the [Next] button.
34 SETUP IN A WINDOWS ENVIRONMENT 6 When you are asked whether or not you want the printer to be your default printer, make a selection and click the [Next] button. If you are installing multiple drivers, select the printer driver to be used as the default printe r.
35 MAINTENANCE This section explains how to clean the machine and replace the toner cartridges. REGULAR MAINTENANCE To ensure that the ma chine continues t o provide top quality perf ormance, periodically clean the machine.
36 MAINTENANCE 1 Open the automatic document feeder and remove the glass cleaner. 2 Clean the document scanning area on the document glass with the glass cleaner. One scanning area is on the do cument glass and the other is inside the automatic document feeder.
37 MAINTENANCE CLEANING THE BYPASS FEED ROLLER If paper misfeeds frequ ently occur when feeding or heavy pap er throu gh the bypass tr ay, wipe the surf ace of the feed roller with a clean soft cloth moist ened with water or a neut ral detergent.
38 MAINTENANCE REPLACING THE TONER CARTRIDGES Be sure to replace the ton er cartridge when the messag e "Change the toner car tridge." appears. In copy mode OK Change the toner cartridge. Ready to scan for copy. (Change the toner cartridge.) Ready to scan for copy.
39 MAINTENANCE 1 Open the front cover. 2 Clean the document scanning area on the document glass with the glass cleaner. One scanning area is on the do cument glass and the other is inside the automatic document feeder. Hold the toner cartridge with both hands as shown in the illustration, and pull it out of th e machine.
40 MAINTENANCE 4 Insert the new toner cartridge. Align the toner cartridge with the insert hole and push it in as shown. Do not rotate the cartridge. 5 Push the cartridge in until it locks securely in place. 6 Close the front cover. Caution • Do not throw a toner cartr idge into a fi re.
41 REMOVING MISFEEDS When a paper misfeed occurs, the message "A misfee d has occurred." will appear in t he touch panel and printing and scanning will stop. In this event, touch the [Information] key in the touch panel. When the key is touched, instructions for removing the misfeed will appear.
42 SUPPLIES Standard supp lies for this product that can repl aced by the us er include paper, tone r cartridges, and staple cartridges for the finisher. Be sure to use only SHARP-specified pr oducts for the toner ca rtrid ges, finisher staple cart ridge, saddle stitch finisher staple cartridge , and transparency film .
