U U s s e e r r M M a a n n u u a a l l 4 Setting up your telephone Connection and conditions for use You can connect your SD8421 to a direct excha nge line (DEL), a line connected to a local exchange, with its own phone numbe r; to an extension socket c onnected to a DEL; or to an extension on an approved compatible PBX.

Switch on mains power at the socket 5. Fit the battery in the handset(s) Insert the battery cell following the Battery polarity indication 2.

Switch mains power back on Make sure the mains socket is switched on if you want to use the phone---it will not work without electrical power.

U U s s e e r r M M a a n n u u a a l l 11 Message Functions SD8421 is equipped with text message function, which allows you to send and receive SMS (Short Message Service) from other com patible fixed line SMS phones. You need to register with your fixed line network operator fo r the SMS service before using SD8421 for messaging.

If you reset the system, you will lose all stored inform ation (including numbers in memory) and all features will r etu rn to their default se ttings.

Check the Battery Level sym bol on the display. If it is low, repla ce the handset on the base unit to recharge the batteries.
