8/16/2005 4 EMI WARNING Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) from Radio Wave Sources Powered electric chairs may be susceptible to electromagnetic interference, which is a kind of interfering electromagnetic energy (EM) emitted from sources such as radio stations, TV stations, amateur radio (HAM) transmitters, two-way radios and cellular phones.

8/16/2005 9 Getting to Know Your Shoprider Jiffy Powerchair The Joystick Controller (VSI 50) 1. On-Off Button : This button turns the joystick controller (hereinafter refe rred to as VSI) on and off. Do not use th is button to stop the folding power chair, ex cept in an emergency.
8/16/2005 10 Locking/Unlocking the VSI Joystick LOCK MODE: The VSI controller can be locked to prevent unauthorized use. The locking method is achieved through a sequence of key presses and joysti ck movements, as detailed below. To lock Powerchair controller: While the controller is switc hed on, depress and hold the on/off button.
8/16/2005 11 Drive/Freewheel Mechanism The drive/freewheel levers are found toward the front of the Powerchair, one on each side, loca ted at the end of each motor. These levers will allow you to disengage the drive mechanism and push the Powerchair while in freewheel mode.

8/16/2005 15 Caring for Your Shoprider Jiffy Powerchair First Time Use Prior to using your Jiffy portable Powerchair for the first time, you must charge the batteries fully (refer to Battery Charging Procedures). Charging may take up to 8 hours. Charging the batteries completely prior to fi rst time use will benefit battery efficiency.

8/16/2005 17 Battery Charging Procedure There are two ways to charge t he Jiffy portable Powerchair: 1) Plug the A/C power cord into the wall. Plug the male three-pin charger plug into the female 3-pin receiver located on the bottom of the VSI (Refer to Figure 2, #8).
