Move t he circuit-break er release latch (on the floor of the cell near the right side of the circuit br eaker) t o the lef t and pull the circuit br eaker out fr om the DISC ONNECT position. The circuit break er can now be removed fr om the cubicle and rolled out ont o the two extension rails.

(The racking shroud canno t be mov ed if the circuit br eaker is CL OSED.) 2. Hold the sock et-end of the crank in one hand and the crank handle in the ot her hand.

V ehicle function and operational interlocks A type 38-3AH3 vacuum circuit br eaker is comprised mainly of the vacuum interrup ter/operator module fitt ed to a vehicle. This vacuum inter rupter/operat or module is an integral arrangement of operating mechanism, dielectric system, vacuum interrup ters and means of connecting the primary circuit.
The two plates ar e mounted in alignment and must pass thr ough each other in or der for the cir cuit-breaker vehicle t o enter the draw out compartment. The interlock is coded to test rated v oltage, as well as interrup ting and continuous current ratings.

V acuum int er r upt er/ operat or The spring-dump cam raises the spring-dump interloc k upon insertion of the circuit break er into the compartment, or upon withdrawal fr om the compar tment. The interlock is raised at about the time the front wheels pas s ov er the cubicle sill.
Maint enance Hazardous voltage and high-speed moving parts. Will cause death, serious injury and proper ty damage. Do not by-pas s interlocks or otherwise make int erlocks inoperative. Interloc ks must be in operation at all times. Read instruction manuals, obser ve saf ety instructions and use qualified personnel.

Maint enance Removal from switc hgear Prior to performing an y inspection or maintenance chec ks or tests, the circuit break er mus t be remo ved from t he switchgear . The "Installation checks and initial functional tests" section (ref er to page 8) describes the remo val procedur e in detail.
Inspection of primar y disconnects Figure 38: Primary disconnect in mated position shows the primary-disconnect contact-fingers engaged. When the contacts are mated with t he switchgear primar y-stud assembly , there is f orceful contact distributed ov er a wide area.

Maint enance Primar y-disconnect contacts (multi- fingered clusters) and secondary- disconnect contacts (strips and fingers) are to be wiped clean, and a film of Siemens contact lubricant (15-172-791-233) applied. Av oid getting contact lubricant on any insulating mat erials.
Maint enance Electrical-control checks The electrical controls of the type 38-3AH3 vacuum circuit br eaker should be c heck ed during inspection to v erify absence of any mechanical damage, and proper operation of the automatic-spring c harging and close and trip circuits.

Maint enance Electrical close and trip check (control pow er required) A check of the cir cuit-break er control circuits is performed while the unit is still connected t o the switchgear by t he split- plug jumper . This check is made with the circuit br eaker ener gized by contr ol power from the switc hgear .
Maint enance High-potential t ests The next series of tests (vacuum int egrity and insulation) inv olve use of high-voltage test equipment. The cir cuit break er under test should be inside a suitable test barrier equipped with warning lights.
Maint enance Vacuum-int egrity test procedure 1. Obser ve saf ety pr ecautions listed in the DANGER and W ARNING advisories. Construct the proper barrier and warning light system. 2. Ground the frame of the cir cuit break er , and ground eac h pole not under test.
Maint enance 7. Connect all points of the secondar y disconnect with a shorting wire. Connect the shorting wire to the high- pot ential lead of the high-voltage tester and g round the cir cuit-break er housing. Starting with zero v olts, gradually increase the t es t voltage t o 1,500 volts rms, 60 Hz.
Overhaul Introduction The follo wing procedures along wit h the troubleshoo ting charts at the end of this section, pro vide maintenance personnel with a guide to identifying and corr ecting possible malfunctions of the type 38-3AH3 vacuum circuit br eaker .
Overhaul D. Solenoid mounting scre ws must be installed using thread locking adhesive (Loctite #222, Siemens part 15-133-281-007) and primer (Loctite primer T , Siemens part 15- 133-281-005). E. Connect wires t o coils with new "push on" wire t erminals (Siemens part 15-171-600-002).
Overhaul 1.7 Remove bolt (31.2), loc k washer and large washer at stationary cont act of the vacuum interrup ter (24 mm sock et with ext ension). Carefully note location of the conductive spacer between vacuum int errupter and pole support. This spacer has a concave surface that must be handled with care t o avoid damag e.
