5 AXIS 214 PTZ Product Description The AXIS 214 PTZ is a fully-featured PTZ Network Camera for security su rveillance and remote monitoring. With its removable automatic IR filter, the came ra supports automatic day & night functionality. The AXIS 214 PTZ is equipped with 1 input and 1 ou tput, for connecting extern al devices, e.
6 AXIS 214 PTZ Rear panel The rear panel provides access to all of the availa ble connections on the AXIS 214 PTZ. The view shown here is from a ceiling mounted camera. Control button - This is used to restore the factor y d efault settings, as described in Resetting to the factory default settings, on page 37 .
7 AXIS 214 PTZ Accessing the camera The AXIS 214 PTZ can be used with most standard operating systems, and su pports Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x or later, Netscape 7.x or later and Mozilla 1.4 or later. Accessing the camera from a browser 1. Start a browser (Internet Explor er , Mozilla, Netscape Navigator).
8 AXIS 214 PTZ The Live View page The following provides an overview of the controls fo und on the Live View page . If the AXIS 214 PTZ has been customized (from Setup > Live View Config > Layout ), the controls will be displayed accordingly: Pan/Tilt/Zoom controls The Live View page also displays the Pan/Tilt/Zoom controls .
9 AXIS 214 PTZ Control panel Click the Ctrl panel button to display the control panel, which provides the following settings: • Auto focus : Au tomatically adjusts th e image focus. • Auto iris : Automatically adjusts the am ount of light reaching the camera and gives th e best re sults, This also protects the image sensor from strong light.
10 AXIS 214 PTZ Area Zoom This allows you to draw a box over a desired area to zoom into. To activate, click the Center button described in the AMC viewer toolbar, or in other Internet browsers, select PTZ > Center .
11 AXIS 214 PTZ Video and Audio Streams The AXIS 214 PTZ provides several different image and video formats. The type to use depends on your requirements and on the properties of your network. The Live View page in the AXIS 214 PTZ provides access to Motion JPEG and MPEG-4 video streams, as well as to single JPEG images.
12 AXIS 214 PTZ MPEG-4 protocols and communication methods To deliver live streaming video over IP networks, various combinations of transport protocols and broadcast methods are employed. •RTP (Realtime Transport Protocol) is a protocol th at allows programs to manage the real-time trans- mission of multimedia data, via unicast or multicast.

15 AXIS 214 PTZ Video & Image settings Image Image Appearance Adjust these settings to optimize the vide o images according to your requirements. All configuration of images and overlays will affect the performance of the camera, depending on usage and the available bandwidth.
16 AXIS 214 PTZ Overlay Settings Use these settings to include a) an image as an overlay, and/or b) the date and time, along with text of your own. Text overlays are all included on one line at the top or bottom of the video image. Image overlays can be placed anywhere in the video image.
17 AXIS 214 PTZ Advanced Camera Settings Lighting Conditions To optimize the lighting settings according to you r requirements, modify the following settings: • Color setting - select color or B/W . • Brightness - this can be adjusted in the range 0-100.
18 AXIS 214 PTZ Audio The AXIS 214 PTZ can transmit audi o to other clients, by connecting a microphone, and can play audio from other clients by attaching a speake r. This section describes how to conf igure the basic au dio settings for the AXIS 214 PTZ, e.
19 AXIS 214 PTZ •I n Simple x - AXIS 2 14 PTZ sp eaker only mode, the speaker connected to the AXIS 2 14 PTZ will play audio, but no audio will be transmitted from the AXIS 2 14 PTZ to other web clients. This could be used to e.g. provide spoken instructions to a person viewed in the camera.
20 AXIS 214 PTZ Enable echo cancellation reduces acoustic echoing (feedback) if so und from the speaker is captured by the microphone. Noise cancellation is a way of reducing the backgrou nd noise when there is no useful audio pres ent.
21 AXIS 214 PTZ Live View Config Layout These are the tools for deciding the layout of the Live View page. The layout can be set in 3 ways: • Use Axis look - the layout is unchanged. • Use custom settings - modify the default page with your ow n colors, images etc.
22 AXIS 214 PTZ Own Home Page To use a previously uploaded web page as the default page, check the checkbox, select the page from the drop-down list and click OK . User Defined Links Enter a descriptive name and enter the URL in the provided field. The link will appear on the Live View page .
23 AXIS 214 PTZ Check the Show crosshair in PTZ joystick mode box to show a red position indi cator on the live view page when joystick navigation mode is selected. Use PTZ joystick mode as default - Sets the PTZ mo de to joystick, which can be changed temporarily on the PTZ Control Panel, but will default to joystick if this is selected.
24 AXIS 214 PTZ PTZ Configuration Preset Positions A preset position is a pre-defi ned camera view that can qu ickly and easily be viewed. From Preset Position Setup , use the Pan, Tilt and Zoom (PTZ) c o ntrols to steer the came ra to the required position.
25 AXIS 214 PTZ Event configuration This section describes how to configure the AXIS 214 PTZ for alarm and handling. The AXIS 214 PTZ can be configured to perform certain action s when certain types of events occur. Terminology • Event Type - A set of parameters describing how and when the AXIS 2 14 PTZ should perform cer - tain actions.
26 AXIS 214 PTZ Event types An event type is a set of parameters describing how and when the AXIS 214 PTZ is to perform certain actions. Example: If someone passes a connected sensor and an event type has been configured to act on this, the camera can e.
27 AXIS 214 PTZ Include post-trigger buffer - contains images from the time immediat ely after the trigger. Configure as for pre-trigger. Note: If the pre- or post-buffer is too large fo r the internal memory, the frame rate will be reduced and indi vidual images may be mi ss- ing.
