6 GB Music discs encoded with copyright protection technologies This product is designed to playback discs that conform to the Compact Disc (CD) standard. Recently, various music discs encoded with copyright protect ion technologies are marketed by some record companies.
Getting Started 7 GB Perform the following procedures 1 to 4 to hook up your system usin g the supplied cords and accessories. 1 Connect the speakers. Connect the right and left spe aker cords to the SPEAKER terminals on the unit as shown below. 2 Connect the FM and AM aerials.
8 GB Plug type A Plug type B Plug type C Note To prevent noi se pickup, keep the aeri al away from the system and other compon ents. Tip You can use th e same lead aeri al for both DAB an d FM connectio n. Use the whit e side connector for DAB connectio n and the brown side connec tor for FM connectio n.
Getting Started 9 GB Inserting two R6 (size AA) batteries into the remote Note If you do not use th e remote for a long pe riod of time, remove the batt eries to avoid poss ible damage from battery le akage and corr osion. Tip With normal us e, the batteries sh ould last for abou t six months.
10 GB 1 Press Z PUSH OPEN/CLOSE on the unit. 2 Place a disc with the label side up on the CD compartment. 3 Press Z PUSH OPEN/CLOSE on the unit again to close the lid of CD compartment. Notes • Do not use a disc with tape, seals or p aste on it as this may cause mal function.
CD/MP3 – Pla y 11 GB Other operations Notes • When switch ing to CD functio n from tuner, a lon ger time may be required to access th e disc. • You can not change t he play m ode durin g playbac k. • Some t ime may be needed to st art play back of discs recorded in c omplex configur ations such as ma ny layers.
12 GB You can make a program of up to 25 steps. You can synchro record the programed tracks onto a cassette tape (page 18). 1 Press CD (or FUNCTION repeatedly) to switch the funct ion to CD. 2 Press PLAY MODE repeatedly in stop mode until “PGM” appears.
T uner 13 GB Before you can receive DAB, you must register the contents of broadcasts (service components) so that they can be received by the DAB tuner using the DAB Automatic Scan procedure. DAB Automatic Scan DAB Automatic Scan starts automatically only when you turn on the system for the first time after you purchase the system.

T une r 15 GB You can listen to a radio station ei ther by select ing a prese t station, or by manual ly tuning in the station. Listening to a preset station — Preset Tuning Preset radio s tations in the tun er’s memory first (see “Pr esettin g radio s tations ” on page 13) .
16 GB What is the Radio Data System? Radio Data System (R DS) is a broadcasting service that allows radio stations to send additional information along with the regular program signal. This tuner offers co nvenient RDS features like st ation name. RDS is available only on FM stations.
Ta p e – P l a y 17 GB 1 Press PUSH OPEN/CLOSE Z on the unit. 2 Load a recorded/recordable tape into the cassette holder. You can use TYPE I (normal) tape. 1 Load a tape. 2 Press TAPE (or FUNCTION repeatedly) to switch the func tion to TAPE. 3 Press N (or TAPE/ N on the uni t).
18 GB You can record a whole CD on a tape. You can use TYPE I (normal) tap e. 1 Load a recordable tape. 2 Load a disc you want to record. When you want to record an album from an MP3 disc, be sure to pr ess PLAY MODE repeatedly to select , then press + or – to select the desired album before proceeding.
T ape – Recor ding/Sound Adjustment /Timer 19 GB Generating a more dynamic sound (Dynamic Sound Generator X-tra) Press DSGX on the unit. Each time you press the button, the display changes as follows: DSGX ON* y DS GX OFF * “DSGX” lights up. Adjusting the bass and treble You can adjust the bass and treble to en joy more powerful sound.
20 GB You can wake up to music at a preset time. Ma ke sure you have set the clock (see “Setting the clock” on page 9 ). Use buttons on the remote for the operation. 1 Prepare the sound source you want to play. • CD: Load a disc. To start from a specific track, make a program (see “Creating your own program” on page 12).
Timer 21 GB You can record a preset radio station from a specified time. To timer record, you must first preset the radio station (see “Presetti ng radio station s” on page 13) and set the clock (see “Setting the clock” on page 9). Use buttons on the remote for the operation.
22 GB The cloc k displa y can be turned of f to minim ize the am ount of pow er cons umed du ring stan dby (Powe r Saving Mode). Press DISPLAY repeatedly while the system is off until the clock display disappears. To ca ncel Pow er Savi ng Mode Press DISPLAY while the system is off.
Display 23 GB Checking the total playing time and titles Press DISPLAY repeatedly in stop mode. Each time you press the button, the display changes cyclically as follows: x When a CD/MP3 is in Program.
24 GB To enhance your system, you can connect optional components. Refer to the operating instructions provided with each component. A AUDIO IN jack Use audio cords (not supplied) to connect an optional analog component (Portable Audio Player, etc.) to this jack.
Optional Compon ents/T roublesho oting 25 GB Should you encounter a problem with your system, do the fo llowing: 1 Make sure the mains lead and speaker cords are correctly and firmly connected. 2 Find your problem in the troubleshooting checklist below and take the indicated corrective action.
26 GB • Locat e the syst em away from t he fluor escent li ght. The system can not be turned on even though you have pre ssed ?/1 . • Mak e sure the ma ins lead is connected to m ains. The col or irregu larit y on a TV scree n pers ists. • Move the speakers farther away from the TV set.
T roubleshooting 27 GB RDS isn’t work ing. • Make sure t hat you tune in an FM statio n. • Select a stro nger FM statio n. The appropriate disp lay or information does not appear . • Contact the radio station and find out whe ther or not they ac tually provi de the servi ce in questio n.
28 GB One of the following messages may appear or flash in the display during operation. CD/MP3 Step Full! You tried to program 26 o r more tracks (s teps). No Disc There is n o disc in the player. No Step All of the pr ogramed track s have been eras ed.
