8 Playback options Y ou can enjoy various w ays of playback using PLA Y MODE and REPEA T/ENTER. PLA Y MODE button Each time you press the b utton, you can change the playback mode.
9 Playing tracks repeatedly (Repeat play) Y ou can play tracks repeatedly in normal, single, shuffle and PGM play modes. During playback, press REPEA T/ENTER. Playing a single track (Single play) During playback, press PLA Y MODE repeatedly until “1” appears.

11 Emphasizing the bass sound (SOUND) Y ou can emphasize the bass-boosted sound. Press SOUND to select “ BASS ” or “ BASS . ” “ BASS ” enhances the bass sound more than “ BASS . ” Note If the sound is distorted when using the SOUND function, turn down the v olume.
12 Protecting your hearing (A VLS) The A VLS (Automatic V olume Limiter System) function keeps down the maxim um volume to protect your hearing. Press and hold SOUND until “ A VLS ” appears in the display . When you turn up the volume to “ ” “ A VLS ” flashes and you cannot turn up the volume an y more.
13 T ur ning off the operation beep sound Y ou can turn off the beep sound that is heard from your headphones/earphones when you operate your CD player . 1 Remove the power source (AC power adaptor , rechargeable batteries or dry batteries) from the CD player .
14 Connecting a stereo system Y ou can listen to CDs through a stereo system and record CDs on a cassette tape. For details, see the instruction manual that comes with the connected device . Be sure to turn off all connected de vices before making connections.

16 Using the rechargeable batteries T o remove the rechargeable batteries Remove the batteries as illustrated belo w . When to charge the rechargeable batteries Y ou can check the remaining power of the batteries in the display . Battery power is full.
17 Using the dry batteries Use only the following dr y battery type for your CD player: • LR6 (size AA) alkaline batteries Note Be sure to remove the AC po wer adaptor when using the dry batteries. 1 Open the battery compartment lid. 2 Insert two LR6 (size AA) batteries by matching the 3 to the diagram in the battery compartment.
18 Precautions On safety • Should any solid objects or liquid fall into the CD player , unplug it and hav e it checked by qualified personnel befor e operating it any further . • Do not put any foreign objects in the DC IN 4.5 V (e xternal power input) jack.
19 T roubleshooting Should any problem persist after you ha ve c hecked these symptoms, consult your nearest Sony dealer . Symptom The volume does not increase even if you press the VOL + button repeatedly. Cannot adjust the volume. No sound, or noise is heard.
20 T roubleshooting Symptom The CD player does not start charging. Playback starts from the point you stopped. (resume function) Rustling noise is heard from the CD. When closing the lid of the CD player , the CD starts to rotate. Cause and/or corrective action c During stop, press x /CHG.
