6 Playing a CD Y ou can also use r echarg eable batteries and dry batteries as a power source. to an AC outlet 1 . 8 About the display • When you press u ( N / > for the tuner -remote control) after changing the CD or turning off and on the player , the total number of tracks in the CD and total playing time appear for about two seconds. • During play , the tr ack number and the elapsed playing time of the current track appear .
9 Playback options Y ou can enjo y various w ays of playback using PLA Y MODE and REPEA T/ENTER. PLA Y MODE button Each time you press the b utton, you can change the playback mode.
10 Playing tracks repeatedly (Repeat play) Y ou can play tracks repeatedly in normal, single, shuf fle and PGM play modes. During playback, press REPEA T/ENTER. Note on . / > During Repeat play , you can locate the first track after the last track by pressing > repeatedly .

12 k k Using the Radio Y ou can listen to the radio using the tuner -remote control attached to the CD player or using it separately . When using the tuner-remote control attached to the CD player , you do not need to install the battery in the remote control.
13 Using the radio Listening to the radio Y ou can enjo y FM and AM pr ograms. 1 Set CD/RADIO to “RADIO” to turn on the radio. 2 Slide BAND to select FM or AM. When listening to stereo broadcast Set B AND to FM ST (stereo). Set it to FM MONO (monaural) when reception is poor .
14 T o improve reception For FM, extend the headphones/earphones cord and the remote control cor d. For AM, reorient the tuner-remote control itself. If noise is heard • Disconnect the AC po wer adaptor . • Reception may become poor if the tuner-remote control is used near other r adios, tele vision sets, computers, CD players, etc.
15 Emphasizing the bass sound (SOUND) Y ou can emphasize the bass-boosted sound. Press SOUND to select “BASS ” or “BASS .” “BASS ” enhances the bass sound more than “B ASS ”. Note If the sound is distorted when using the SOUND function, turn down the v olume.
16 Protecting your hearing (A VLS) The A VLS (Automatic V olume Limiter System) function keeps do wn the maximum volume to protect your hearing. Set A VLS to “LIMIT .” T o turn off the A VLS function Set A VLS to “NORM. ” Flashes when the volume is turned up and beyond a certain level.
17 T ur ning off the operation beep sound Y ou can turn of f the beep sound that is heard from your headphones/earphones when you operate your CD player . 1 Remove the power source (AC power adaptor , rechargeable batteries or dry batteries) from the CD player .
18 Connecting a ster eo system Y ou can listen to CDs through a ster eo system and record CDs on a cassette tape and a MiniDisc. For details, see the instruction manual that comes with the connected device. Be sure to turn off all connected de vices before making connections.
19 About Joint T ext (CD text copying function) The Joint T ext function allo ws you to copy the disc and track names that are on a CD containing CD text information. By connecting a Sony MD W alkman (MZ-R900/ R909), which supports Joint T ext, to this CD player , you can copy the CD te xt onto an MD during recording.

22 Using the dry batteries Use only the following dr y battery type for your CD player: • LR6 (size AA) alkaline batter ies Note Be sure to remov e the A C power ada ptor when using the dry batteries. 1 Open the battery compartment lid. 2 Insert two LR6 (size AA) batteries by matching the 3 to the diagram in the battery compartment.
23 Notes on the power source Disconnect all power sources when the CD player is not used. On AC power adaptor • Use only the A C po wer adaptor supplied or recommended in “ Accessories (supplied/ optional). ” Do not use any other A C power adaptor .
24 Precautions On safety • Should any solid objects or liquid f all into the CD player , unplug it and hav e it checked by qualified personnel befor e operating it any further . • Do not put any foreign objects in the DC IN 4.5 V (e xternal po wer input) jack.
25 T roubleshooting Should any problem persist after you ha ve c hecked these symptoms, consult your nearest Sony dealer . CD player Symptom The volume does not increase even if you press the VOLUME + button repeatedly . Cannot adjust the volume. No sound, or noise is heard.
