6 Playing a CD Y ou can also use rechargeable batteries, dry batter ies and a car battery as a power source. u button 2 . Insert a CD. 1 Unfasten the buckle . 2 Open the lid. 3 Fit the CD on the piv ot and close the lid. 4 While holding the lid closed, fasten the buckle securely .

8 About the display • When you press u after changing the CD or turning off and on the play er , the total number of tracks in the CD and total playing time appear for about two seconds. • During play , the tr ack number and the elapsed playing time of the current track appear .
9 Playback options Y ou can enjo y various w ays of playback using PLA Y MODE and REPEA T/ENTER. PLA Y MODE button Each time you press the b utton, you can change the playback mode.
10 Playing tracks repeatedly (Repeat play) Y ou can play tracks repeatedly in normal, single, shuf fle and PGM play modes. During playback, press REPEA T/ENTER. Note on . / > During Repeat play , you can locate the first track after the last track by pressing > repeatedly .
11 Playing tracks in your favorite order (PGM play) Y ou can program the CD player to play up to 64 tracks in your fa vor ite order . 1 During playback, press PLA Y MODE repeatedly until “ PGM ” appears. 2 Press . or > to select a track. 3 Press REPEA T/ENTER to enter the selected track.
12 Using the radio Once you ’ v e preset the stations, you can easily tune in the station by pressing one of the 1 - 5 buttons. Listening to the radio Y ou can enjo y FM and AM pr ograms. 1 Press RADIO ON • BAND to turn on the radio. 2 Press RADIO ON • BAND until the band you want appears.
13 Using the radio T o improve broadcast reception For FM, extend the headphones/earphones cord . For AM, reorient the CD play er itself. Note Keep the headphones connected to the i jack of the CD player .
14 Presetting radio stations Y ou can store radio stations into the CD player ’ s memory . Y ou can preset up to 30 stations, 5 for each band (FM1 - 5 and AM) in an y order . 1 T une in the station you want. 2 Hold down one of the 1 - 5 buttons that you want to preset the new station on for more than 2 seconds.
15 Playing preset radio stations Y ou can tune in the station easily by pressing one of the 1 - 5 b uttons. 1 Press RADIO ON • BAND to select the band. 2 Press one of the 1 - 5 buttons or PRESET + or – to tune in a stored station. Changing the tuning interval When using the CD player abroad, change the AM tuning inter v al, if necessary .
16 Emphasizing the bass sound (SOUND) Y ou can emphasize the bass-boosted sound. Press SOUND to select “ BASS ” or “ BASS . ” “ BASS ” enhances the bass sound more than “ B ASS . ” Note If the sound is distorted when using the SOUND function, turn down the v olume.
17 Protecting your hearing (A VLS) The A VLS (Automatic V olume Limiter System) function keeps do wn the maximum volume to protect your hearing. Set A VLS (under the lid) to “ LIMIT . ” T o turn off the A VLS function Set A VLS to “ NORM. ” Displayed when “ LIMIT ” is selected and A VLS function is working.
18 T ur ning off the operation beep sound Y ou can turn of f the beep sound that is heard from your headphones/earphones when you operate your CD player . 1 Remove the power source (AC power adaptor , rechargeable batteries or dry batteries) from the CD player .
19 Notes • Before you play a CD, turn down the volume of the connected device to a void damag ing the connected speakers. • Use the AC power adaptor for recording. If you use the rechar geable batteries or dry batteries as a power source, batteries may become completely depleted during recording.
20 Using your CD player in a car Y ou can use your CD player in a car by connecting it to the car cassette deck. Y ou cannot use the car mount plate for this CD player . When you use your CD player in a car , install it securely in a location that does not interfere with your driving .

23 Using the dry batteries Use only the following dr y battery type for your CD player: • LR6 (size AA) alkaline batter ies Note Be sure to remov e the A C power adaptor w hen using the dry batteries. 1 Open the battery compartment lid. 2 Insert two LR6 (size AA) batteries by matching the 3 to the diagram in the battery compartment.
24 Precautions On safety • Should any solid objects or liquid f all into the CD player , unplug it and hav e it checked by qualified personnel befor e operating it any further . • Do not put any foreign objects in the DC IN 4.5 V (e xternal po wer input) jack.
25 • The supplied A C power adaptor is not water resistant. T o prev ent shock hazard, av oid using the player near water during A C operation. • Cov er the DC IN 4.5 V jac k and i jack with the attached rubber caps when nothing is connected to these jacks.
26 T roubleshooting Should any problem persist after you ha ve c hecked these symptoms, consult your nearest Sony dealer . CD player Symptom The volume does not increase even if the VOL control is adjusted to the maximum level. No sound, or noise is heard.
27 CD player Symptom Rustling noise of the CD is heard. Playback starts from the point you stopped. (resume function) Radio Symptom The audio is weak or has poor quality . Cause and/or corrective actions c Charge the rechargeable batteries. (pages 21, 22) c Replace the batteries with new LR6 (size AA) alkaline batteries.
