4 Enjoy your A TRAC CD W alkman! Thank you for purchasing the D-NE300CK/NE301CK/NE306CK. This CD W alkman is called an “ A TRA C CD W alkman, ” because you can enjoy “ A TRAC CDs” on it. 5 Enjoy your A TRAC CD Walkman! What is an A TRAC CD? An A TRA C CD is a CD-R/R W on which audio data compressed in the A TRAC3plus/A TRA C3 format has been recorded. About 30 audio CDs can be recorded on a CD-R/R W .* Y ou can also record MP3 files by con verting the f iles to the A TRAC3plus/A TRA C3 format.
6 Music sources playable on this CD player Y ou can play the following 3 music sources on this CD player: • Audio CDs (CDD A format) • CDs with A TRAC3plus/A TRAC3 format f iles (A TRAC CD) • CDs with MP3 format files (MP3 CD) Usable disc formats Y ou can use ISO 9660 Lev el 1/2 and Joliet extension format discs only .
7 A TRAC3plus and A TRAC3 “A TRA C3plus, ” which stands for “ Adaptive Transform Acoustic Coding3plus” is audio compression technology , de veloped from the A TRAC3 format. Though the A TRAC3plus format can compress music content to about 1/20 of its original size at 64 kbps, you can still enjoy high quality sound.

15 Checking CD information on the display Y ou can check CD information by pressing DISPLA Y/MENU repeatedly . When you are playing a CD containing text information such as CD-TEXT , “track name, ” “album name, ” “artist name, ” etc. are displayed as shown in parentheses in the follo wing table.

18 Playing your favorite tracks by adding Bookmarks (Bookmark track play) While the CD player is playing, you can add bookmarks to the tracks you want and play them only .
19 Playback options Playing tracks you have played most frequently in random or der (A uto ranking shuffle play) The CD player plays up to 32 tracks which the player has automatically memorized as the most frequently played ones. In Auto ranking shuf fle play , these tracks are played in random order .

23 Stopping playback automatically (OFF TIMER) Y ou can set the CD player to stop the play automatically within a range of 1 to 99 minutes. 26 Mounting your CD player Notes • Do not aff ix V elcro tapes to the name plate or any control. • When you are going to park your car for a long period of time, remov e the CD player from the console box and place it where it will not be e xposed to direct sunlight.
27 Mounting the rotary commander If you use the supplied rotary commander , you can control your CD player as easily as you would control the headlight or the wiper switch of your car while driving. Attach the rotary commander to a flat place as illustrated below .
28 B Connecting to a power source Using the dry batteries Use only the following dry battery type for your CD player: • LR6 (size AA) alkaline batteries F or the battery life, see “Specif ications. ” Note Be sure to remov e the A C power adaptor when using the dry batteries.
29 Notes on the power source Disconnect all power sources when the CD player is not used for a long time. On AC power adaptor • Use only the A C power adaptor supplied. If your CD player is not supplied with the one, use the A C-E45HG A C po wer adaptor .

32 Tr oubleshooting Should any problem persist after you ha ve checked these symptoms, consult your nearest Sony dealer . Symptom The volume does not increase even if you press VOL + repeatedly . No sound, or noise is heard. Certain files cannot be played.
33 Additional information Symptom “HOLD” flashes in the display when you press a button, and the CD does not play . Playback starts from the point you stopped. (resume function) Rustling noise is heard from the CD. During playback of an A TRAC CD or MP3 CD, the CD does not rotate but you can hear the sound normally .
