3 Prepare the phone To insert the SI M card and batter y 1 Remove the ba ttery c over. Sli de the S IM car d into its holder with the co ntacts facin g dow n. 2 Insert the batter y wit h the la bel side up and th e connecto rs facing each othe r. Replac e the b attery cover a s shown in the pi cture.
4 Char ge th e batter y 1 The phon e batt ery is partly charge d when you bu y it. Connec t the char ger to th e phon e. It takes approxim ately 2.5 hour s to fully cha rge th e battery. Press a ke y to illuminate the sc reen. 2 To remo ve the c harger, tilt the pl ug upw ards.
5 Turn the pho ne on 1 Pre ss and h old down . 2 Enter you r PIN if req uested. T o correct mistakes, select De lete . 3 Select OK . 4 Select a lan guage. 5 Enter the time and da te and select Save . To tu rn th e pho ne of f • Pre ss and h old down .
6 SIM and PIN SIM ca rd The SIM (Subscriber Id entity Module ) card, w hich you ge t from yo ur netw ork oper ator, con tains informat ion about y our subscr iption. Alwa ys turn off you r phone and detac h the charger b efore you inse rt or rem ove th e SIM car d.

11 Short cuts From sta ndby you can use the na vigation keys to go direct ly to a f unction : • Press to write a text or picture m essage. • Press to go t o the cam era. • Press to pla y the FM radio. • Press to go to yo ur con tacts. To n avigate the me nus 1 From sta ndby select Menu .

14 Camera Your p hone has a digital came ra to take pictur es to sa ve or send. Pictures t aken with the came ra are saved in Camera pics . Th e format is JPEG. To star t the camera and take a pict ure 1 From sta ndby pre ss . You can see the sub ject on the phone sc reen.
15 Messaging Text messages (SMS) You mu st have a ser vice cen tre numb er, which is supplied by your serv ice provider an d saved on the SIM car d. You m ay have to enter the numb er yourself. See Tr oubl esh oot ing on page 36. To write and send a te xt mess age 1 From sta ndby pre ss .

17 Contacts You can save con tacts in th e phone m emory or on the SIM card. You can copy co ntacts from the phon e memory to the SIM card or fr om th e SIM ca rd to the ph one memory . To a dd a co ntac t 1 From st andby se lect Menu > Contacts > A dd co nta ct .

19 Contacts memo ry The nu mber of entries you can sav e in Contacts dep ends on th e capaci ty of your SIM card . To chec k the Contac ts memo ry sta tus • From sta ndby select Menu > Contacts > Settings > Mem ory statu s . Speed dia lling Speed dialling lets you sele ct nine contact s that you can dial quickly.

21 Calendar To add an ap pointm ent in the Calend ar 1 From sta ndby select Menu > Ext ras > Calendar . 2 Scroll to a date and select Optio ns > Add a n ote . 3 Enter you r details an d select Options > OK . 4 Confirm the da te and t ime with OK .
22 More functions Alarm The ala rm rings even if the p hone is set t o silent or tu rned off. To set t he alar m 1 From sta ndby select Menu > Alarms . 2 Enter the time and selec t Save . 3 Select an option. • If Alarm is selecte d, select an alarm signa l.
23 Entering te xt There are two m ethods yo u can u se to enter text: multitap or T9™ te xt input. To ch ange te xt in put me thods • When you write the message, pr ess and hold down . To en ter te xt usi ng mu ltitap • Press – until th e desire d charact er appear s.

25 Emerg ency c alls Your p hone supp orts inter nationa l emergenc y number s, for ex ample, 112 and 9 11. Th ese numb ers can normal ly be u sed to ma ke e merg enc y ca lls in any co un try, wi th or without the SIM card inserted, if a GSM network is within range .
26 To canc el a ca ll diver t • From sta ndby select Menu > Calls > Call set tings > Divert all calls > Deactiva te all . Multiple calls Call waiting When ca ll waiting is u sed, you h ear a beep if you rec eive a second call.
27 To ma ke a seco nd ca ll 1 During the call, select Opti ons > Hold call > Options > Cal l co ntac t . Your ongoin g call is put on hold . 2 Scroll to the contact and selec t Options > Call . To sw itch betw een tw o calls • During the call, select Swit ch .
28 Voicemail Callers can lea ve a voice mail message wh en you cann ot answer. You can get your v oicemail numbe r from yo ur networ k operato r. 29 Ringtones a nd themes Themes ar e used to chang e the ap pearance of the screen. To select a rin gtone • From sta ndby select Menu > Se ttin gs > Soun d & alerts > Ringto ne an d select a r ingtone.
30 Time and date To se t the time 1 From sta ndby select Menu > Se ttin gs > Time a nd date > Time > Set t ime . 2 Enter the time and selec t Save . To se t the ti me for mat • From sta ndby select Menu > Se ttin gs > Time a nd date > Time > Time for mat and select a n optio n.
31 Infra red Use the infr ared por t to ex change co ntacts, pictures, themes, r ington es and files b etween pho nes or with a PC. If infrared is se t to On but not u sed , th e inf rar ed po rt automat ically turn s off after 10 min utes. To turn on in frared • From sta ndby select Menu > Se ttin gs > Infrared port > On .
32 Internet To use the Inter net and p icture mes saging yo u need the co rre ct se tt ing s in yo ur ph on e. If s et tin gs ar e n ot in you r phon e, you can: • Receive set tings in a te xt mess age (SMS) f rom your networ k operato r. • Use a comp uter to g o to www.
33 Locks SIM card loc k The SIM card lock pr otects your subscr iption, but not your pho ne itself, from una uthor ized use. If you c hange SIM cards, the phone still w orks with the ne w SIM card.
34 To tu rn th e SIM ca rd lo ck on 1 From sta ndby select Menu > Se ttin gs > Adv anc ed > Secu rit y > SIM lock > Protec tio n > On . 2 Enter you r PIN and selec t OK . To edit you r PIN 1 From sta ndby select Menu > Se ttin gs > Adv anc ed > Secu rit y > SIM lock > Change PIN .
35 If the pho ne lock is set to Au tomati c , you d o not need to enter you r phone lo ck code u ntil a differe nt SIM c ard is inserted in th e phone. To tu rn th e pho ne l ock on 1 From sta ndby select Menu > Se ttin gs > Adv anc ed > Secu rit y > Phone lock > Protec tio n > On .
36 Troublesho oting Some problems r equire that you c all your service provider, but you c an correc t most pr oblems yo urself. Remove the SIM car d before handing your phone in for repair . Memo ry cap acit y and spee d If you have not re started t he phone for a while, yo u may expe rien ce pro blems w ith it s memor y cap acit y and speed.
37 The phone turns itself off. If your ph one turn s itself of f when bein g transpo rted, something in your pocke t or bag has ac tivated the o n/off key. Tu rn the aut omatic keylock on. Select Menu > Setti ngs > Advanc ed > Auto keylock > On .
38 I cannot se nd text messages ( SMS) Make sure you have a valid service centr e number in you r phon e. 1 From sta ndby select Menu > Me ssagi ng > Set tings > Text m essage > Se rvic e cent re . The number is shown if it is save d on the SIM c ard.
39 Inser t SIM card Your SI M card is not inserte d correct ly or may b e dama ged or d irty. Tr y one o r more o f the fol lowing: • Remove the SIM card and insert it correctly. • Clean the connec tors on th e SIM card and pho ne with a soft brush, a cloth or a cott on bud.
