3 Prepari ng the phone To inser t the SI M card and b attery 1 Remove the batte ry cover. Slide the S IM card into its holder with the co ntacts facing d own. 2 Insert the ba ttery wit h the la bel side up and t he conn ector s facing each ot her. Rep lace th e battery cover as shown in the pi cture.
4 To ch arge the ba tter y 1 The p ho ne ba tter y is par tly ch ar ged w hen you b uy it. C onne ct the ch arger to the ph one. It takes a pproximat ely 2.5 hou rs to fully cha rge the batt ery. Press a key to illumi nate the screen. 2 To re move the c harger , tilt th e plug upwards.
5 To tu rn on th e pho ne 1 Press and hold down . 2 Enter your PIN if reque sted. To corr ect mist akes, press . 3 Select OK . 4 Select a la nguage . 5 Enter th e time and date and sele ct Save .
6 SIM and PIN SIM c ard The SIM (Subscr iber Identit y Module) car d, which you get fr om your networ k oper ator, con tains info rmatio n about yo ur sub scription. Al ways turn off you r phone and detach th e char ger an d remove the b atter y before you ins ert or remo ve the S IM ca rd.
7 Network cover age The n etwork bar s show t he stre ngth of t he GSM n etwork in your area . Try movin g to anot her loc ation if you have tr ouble calling and network covera ge is poor. No ne t. coverage mean s you are n ot in ra nge of a netw ork.

21 Camera Your phon e has a digital c amera to take pic tures to sa ve or send. Pictures t aken with the c amera are saved in Menu > Organize r > File manager > Camera album . The f orm at is JPEG. To star t the camera and t ake a p icture 1 Open the slide.

23 Alarms You can set a sound or the radio as an alarm signal. The alarm sounds ev en if the phon e is turn ed off. To set an alarm 1 From sta ndby s elect Menu > Orga nizer > Alar ms . 2 Scroll to an alarm and selec t Edit . 3 Scroll to Time : and sele ct Ed it .
24 Track ID™ Track ID™ is a m usic recog nition se rvice. Sear ch for song titles, artists and album names. Y ou must have corre ct Interne t settin gs in you r phone. See In ternet on pa ge 29. To sear ch fo r song in format ion • When yo u hear a song through a loudsp eaker, fro m stan dby select Menu > Ente rtainm ent > Trac kID™ .

33 Locks SIM ca rd loc k The SIM card lock prote cts you r subscript ion, but n ot you r phone its elf, from unautho rized u se. If you change S IM cards , the phone st ill works with t he new SIM c ard. Most SIM cards are locked at th e time of p urcha se.
34 To edit your PIN 1 From sta ndby s elect Menu > Setting s > the Gen eral tab > Securit y > SIM lock > Change PIN . 2 Enter your PIN and select OK . 3 Enter a n ew PIN and select OK . 4 Re-enter the new PIN to con firm and selec t OK .

36 Troublesho oting Some proble ms require t hat you ca ll your service p rovider, but you can c orrect m ost prob lems yourse lf. Remove t he SIM c ard befo re handi ng yo ur phone in for repair. Go to www.sonyeric sson.com/support fo r more in formation .
37 I cannot turn the phone on, what sho uld I do? Try charg ing th e phone u ntil it has finished charging. Connect the ch arger (make sure the power ico n on the charger is facin g upwards) a nd char ge the ph one for 2.5 hours. T he battery ico n on th e scree n may not appea r until the phone has cha rged f or 30 mi nutes.
