17 Recording an M D right away! This sect ion ex plains the ba sic procedur e for making di gital recordin gs using an optical cabl e connected t o a CD player , Digital TV or other digital equi pmen t. For other rec ord ing operati ons, see “V ario us ways of r ecording” (pa ge 22).

20 Playing an MD right away! 1 Inser t an MD. 1 Pres s OPEN to ope n the lid. 2 Insert an MD with the label side f acing front, and pres s the lid down to close . 2 Play an MD. 1 Press N on the rec ord er . (Press NX on the remote c ont rol .) A short beep sou nds in the hea dp hones/ earphon es.

23 T o start/stop recor ding in sync with the sound source (Synchro-r ecording) Duri n g synchr o- re cording, the recorder starts a nd sto ps re cordin g in sy nc with th e sound so urce.
24 Long-time recor ding (MDLP) Select each reco rd in g mode accord ing to the reco rding time that you want. Ster eo reco rding is possib le at 2 ti mes (LP2) o r 4 times (LP 4) the norma l (stere o) recording time . Monaural record ing at 2 tim es n or mal record ing time is a lso possible.
25 Notes • It is rec ommended that you use the A C po wer adaptor fo r long recordin gs. • When you recor d in LP 4 mo de, momentary noise ma y be produc ed on v ery ra re occas ions with certain s ound sources.
26 Adding trac k marks automatica ll y (Auto Time Mark) Use this f eature to add tr ack marks automatic ally at specif ied inte rvals when record ing through t he analog inpu t con necto r . T his fun ction is convenie nt for recording long period of time, such as lect ures, meetin gs, et c.
27 Adjusting the r ecor ding level manually The sound le vel is adjus ted automatically while re cordin g. If necessa r y , you can set the recordi ng lev el manually durin g both ana lo g an d digital re cording. 1 While pr essing X , press REC • T MARK.

41 Note When you erase a tra ck mark bet ween the two consecu tive tracks t hat are ass igned into different grou ps, the second t rack is re-assi gned into th e group cont aining the first t rack.
42 T o e rase the whole d isc Y ou ca n qu ickly erase all th e t ra cks and data of the MD at the same ti me. Note that onc e a recording has been er ased, you cannot retrieve it. Be sur e to che c k the conte nt s of the disc b efore you erase it. 1 Play the di s c you want to erase to check the co ntents .
43 Using t he g rou p func tion What is the group function? The group func tion is pro vided to allo w play back of di scs with gr oup sett ings. The grou p functi on is c o n v enient fo r play b ack of MDs on which se veral alb ums or C D single s ha ve been rec orded in MDLP (LP2/LP4) mode.
44 Recording a track to an existing group Y ou ca n ad d a track to an existin g group. 1 Press G R OUP, and th en pres s . or > until the g ro up yo u want to add a trac k to appear s i n the displ ay . 2 Press N wh ile pressing REC • T MARK. 3 Play th e s our ce sound.

73 What is a Net MD? Net MD is a stand ard tha t enables th e transf er of audio data from a compute r to a MiniDisc de vice. T o use this Net MD wi th your computer requires a so ftware applic ation called “Son icSt age”.

83 Labeling audio data After recor ding has comple ted, you can la bel the audio da ta in the Music Driv e. Once a udio data in the Music Driv e is labeled, the label informati on will be tran sferred to a d isc along with the audi o data, allo wing you to vi ew the data on your Net MD.
84 T ransferring audio data from your computer to the Net MD (Check-out) Audi o da ta stored on the M usic Drive can be tran sf er red to your N et MD. This proce ss is called “ C heck-out”. The n umber of times a tr ack can be checke d out is re stricted in th is soft ware f or the pr otecti on of c opyri ghts (pag e 102).
