7 Before setting u p • Do not plac e the consol e in locatio ns subject to e xcessive cig arette s moke or dust. Cigarette smoke resid ue or dust buil d-up o n t he interna l component s, such as the lens, may cause th e conso le to malfunct ion. • Make sure th e TV is turned off before connecti ng the PlaySt ation ® 2 console .
8 When us ing the Euro-AV connector plug ( SCPH-900 03) Connect yo ur PlayStation ® 2 consol e to the Euro-AV conn ector (SCA RT) on the TV usi ng the Euro-AV connector plug and AV cable, ma king sure yo u match the c ol our-coded plugs of the AV cable to the matchi ng jacks of the conn ector plug.
9 Press and hold the ? / 1 / RESET button for at least one sec ond. The ? / 1 indicator will turn red to indic ate that the con sole is in sta ndby mode. Hint In stand by mode, powe r to the c onsole is no t comp letely tur ned off. I f you will no t be using the cons ole for an e xtende d period of time, unpl ug the power cord from the outl et.
10 You can play game s, DVD-Videos and audio C Ds on the PlayStat ion ® 2 cons ole. Insert the dis c to start pla yback. For instruct ions on playing a gam e, see "Playi ng a game" ( page 11). For DVDs, see "Watching a DVD" ( page 12).
11 You can play PlayStation ® 2 and Pl aySt atio n ® format softwar e on the PlayStati on ® 2 console. Inser t the disc to start playba ck. Resettin g a game Press the ? / 1 /R ESET button. B e ca reful n ot to accid entally press the ? / 1 /RESET button whil e play ing a g ame, as d oing s o will ca use the game t o reset.
12 Copying or deleti ng saved da ta You can delete saved data or copy data to another mem ory card. Use direc tional butt ons and the button to select items.
13 Hints • For more detail s on control panel items, refe r to the User’s Guid e ( page 6 ). • The DVD player can be operated using the DVD remote contr ol (for PlayStat ion ® 2) (sold sepa rately). • Some cont rol pan el options c annot be se lected d uring resu me play.
14 From th e control pan el, select (Setup) t " Custom Setup " t "Paren tal Contro l". Follow the on- screen instr uctions to regist er or enter the passwo rd. After the password is registered or entered, proceed through the various screens to select a region and par ental control level.
15 Notes • Some discs m ay not be playab le due to scra tches, d ust or recordi ng problem s. • Throughout this manual, the term "DVD-Video" is used to refer to DVD-R, DVD- RW (Video mode), DVD+R and DVD+RW discs. • The audio CD playback feature of this product is designe d to conform to the Comp act Dis c (CD) st andard.
