2 SAFE INST ALLA TION, USE AND SERVICE Y our safety and the safety of others is extremely important in the installation, use and servicing of this water heater . Many safety-related messages and instructions have been provided in this manual and on your own water heater to warn you and others of a potential injury hazard.

6 FACTS TO CONSIDER ABOUT THE LOCA TION Carefully choose an indoor location for the new water heater , because the placement is a very important consideration for the safety of the occupants in the building and for the most economical use of the appliance.
7 FIGURE 5. 3 . Determine the location on the wall, and then the height above the floor which the wall securing bracket will be placed. Using adequate screws, or nuts, and bolts (not supplied) fasten the wall securing bracket to the wall. FIGURE 6. 8 Figure 7 shows the typical attachment of the water piping to the water heater . The water heater is equipped with 3/4 inch NPT water connections. NOTE: If using copper tubing, solder tubing to an adapter before attaching the adapter to the cold water inlet connection.
9 The temperature-pressure relief valve must be manually operated at least once a year . Caution should be taken to ensure that (1) no one is in front of or around the outlet of the temperature-pressu.

OPTIONAL CORD SET WIRING (120 V olt and 240 V olt) There may be a cord set supplied with the water heater at the time of manufacture. If not one can be ordered through the Parts Department; see “Repair Parts List” section.
11 WIRING Never use water heater unless it is completely full of water . T o prevent damage to the tank and heating element, the tank must be filled with water . Water must flow from the hot water faucet before turning on power . Y ou must provide all wiring of the proper size outside of the water heater .
12 TEMPERA TURE ADJUSTMENT T o change the temperature setting: NOTE: 1. T urn of f the heater electrical supply . Do not attempt to adjust thermostat with power on. 2 . Remove the thermostat outer door and fold away the insulation from the thermostat.
13 THERMAL EXP ANSION W ater supply systems may , because of such events as high line pressure, frequent cut-offs, the effects of water hammer among others, have installed devices such as pressure reducing valves, check valves, back flow preventers, etc.
14 The water heater should be drained if being shut down during freezing temperatures. Also periodic draining and cleaning of sediment from the tank may be necessary . 1 . Turn electrical supply “OFF”. 2 . CLOSE the cold water inlet valve to the water heater .
15 4 . Remove the two wires attached to the thermostat. 5. Remove the thermostat from behind the thermostat bracket. 6 . Disconnect wires from thermostat and slide out of the bracket. 7 . Place the new lower thermostat in the bracket making sure it fits firmly against the tank.
16 8. Clean the area around the element opening. Remove any sediment from or around the element opening and inside the tank. 9 . If you are cleaning the element you have removed, do so by scraping or soaking in vinegar or a deliming solution.
17 LEAKAGE CHECKPOINTS Read this manual first. Then before checking the water heater make sure the electrical power supply has been turned “OFF” before checking the tank for leakage. *A. Condensation and dripping may be seen on pipes if the water temperature is low in humid weather or pipe connections may be leaking.
18 These guidelines should be utilized by a qualified service agent. TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDELINES Improperly sealed, hot or cold supply connection, relief valve or drain valve. Leakage from other appliances or water lines. Thermal expansion in closed water system.
