If you have followed all of the procedures below and still need assistance, refer to the ‘T echnical Support Procedures’ and/or ‘Returning Merchandise for Service’ section(s) in this chapter .

Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-1 Chapter 4 BIOS 4-1 Introduction This chapter describes the AMI BIOS Setup Utility for the X8DA3/X8DAi moth- erboard. The AMI ROM BIOS is stored in a Flash EEPROM and can be easily updated. This chapter describes the basic navigation of the AMI BIOS Setup Utility setup screens.
4-2 X8DA3/X8DAi User ’s Manual Starting the Setup Utility Normally , the only visible Power-On Self-T est (POST) routine is the memory test. As the memory is being tested, press the <Delete> key to enter the main menu of the AMI BIOS Setup Utility .
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-3 Supermicro X8DA3/X8DAi BIOS Build V ersion: This item displays the BIOS revision used in your sys- • tem. BIOS Build Date: This item displays the date when this BIOS was completed.
4-4 X8DA3/X8DAi User ’s Manual 4-3 Advanced Setup Con fi gurations Use the arrow keys to select Boot Setup and press <Enter> to access the submenu items: Boot Features Quick Boot If Enabled, this option will skip certain tests during POST to reduce the time needed for system boot.
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-5 Hit 'Del' Message Display I f t h i s i t e m i s s e t t o E n a b l e d , t h e m e s s a g e " Pr ess D EL to r un S etu p" will display dur in g POST . The options are Enabled and Disabled. Interrupt 19 Capture Interrupt 19 is the software interrupt that handles the boot disk function.
4-6 X8DA3/X8DAi User ’s Manual C1E Support Select Enabled to enable Enhanced Halt State support. C1E signi fi cantly reduces the CPU's power consumption by reducing the CPU's clock cycle and voltage during a "Halt State." The options are Disabled and Enabled .
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-7 veri fi cation to improve system performance. The default is Disabled . (Refer to Intel and Microsoft Web Sites for more information.) Simultaneous Multi-Threading (Available when supported by the CPU) Select Enabled to use the Simultaneous Multi-Threading T echnology , which will result in increased CPU performance.
4-8 X8DA3/X8DAi User ’s Manual C3 Auto Demotion When this item is set to Enabled, the CPU will conditionally demote C6 or C7 re- quests to C3 based on un-core auto-demote information.
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-9 of the failed memory . This option is supported by Intel 5600 Series processors only . The options are Independent , Channel Mirroring, and Lockstep.
4-10 X8DA3/X8DAi User ’s Manual Intel VT -d Select Enabled to enable Intel Virtualization T echnology support for Direct I/O VT -d by reporting the I/O device assignments to VMM through the DMAR ACPI T ables.
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-1 1 IDE/SA T A Con fi guration When this submenu is selected, the AMI BIOS automatically detects the presence of the IDE devices and displays the following items: SA T A#1 Con fi guration If Compatible is selected, SATA#1 will be set to Legacy mode.
4-12 X8DA3/X8DAi User ’s Manual per interrupt. Select Disabled to allow data to be transferred from and to the device one sector at a time. Select Auto to allow data to be transferred between devices with multiple sectors at a time if the device supports it.
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-13 S.M.A.R.T . For Hard disk drives Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting T echnology (SMART) can help predict impending drive failures. Select Auto to allow the AMI BIOS to automatically de- tect hard disk drive support. Select Disabled to prevent the AMI BIOS from using the S.
4-14 X8DA3/X8DAi User ’s Manual Slot 1 Option ROM ~ Slot 6 Option ROM Select Enabled to enable the Option ROM of a slot speci fi ed, which will allow the user to boot the computer from a PCI device installed on the PCI slot. The options are Disabled and Enabled .
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-15 Remote Access Con fi guration Remote Access This feature allows the user to enable Remote Access support. The options are Disabled and Enabled .
4-16 X8DA3/X8DAi User ’s Manual Hardware Health Con fi guration This feature allows the user to monitor system health and review the status of each item as displayed.
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-17 increasing CPU Fan speed, triggering the Overheat Alarm, etc). Since CPUs can have different ‘T emperature T olerances’, the installed CPU can now send informa- tion to the motherboard what its ‘T emperature T olerance’ is, and not the other way around.
4-18 X8DA3/X8DAi User ’s Manual Fan Speed Control Modes This feature allows the user to decide how the system controls the speeds of the onboard fans. The CPU temperature and the fan speed are correlative. When the CPU on-die temperature increases, the fan speed will also increase for effective system cooling.
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-19 Headless Mode When this feature is enabled, the system will function normally without a keyboard, monitor or mouse installed in the system. The options are Enabled and Disabled . NUMA Support Select Enabled to enable Non-Uniform Memory Access support to improve CPU performance for a system that has an OS with NUMA support.

Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-21 Parameter Selector This item displays the parameter of your IP Address con fi guration. IP Address Source This feature allows the user to determine how an IP address is assigned to this device.

Current Subnet Mask in BMC This item displays the current Subnet Mask used for your IPMI connection. Gateway Address Con fi guration This option allows the user to enter the gateway address for this machine.
