If you have followed all of the procedures below and still need assistance, refer to the ‘T echnical Support Procedures’ and/or ‘Returning Merchandise for Service’ section(s) in this chapter .

Chapter 4: BIOS 4-1 Chapter 4 BIOS 4-1 Introduction This chapter describes the Phoenix BIOS™ Setup utility for the X7DWU. Phoenix ROM BIOS is stored in a fl ash chip and can be easily upgraded using a fl oppy disk-based program.
4-2 X7DWU User's Manual 4-2 Running Setup Note: Default settings are in bold text unless otherwise noted. The BIOS setup options described in this section are selected by choosing the ap- propriate text from the main BIOS Setup screen.
Chapter 4: BIOS 4-3 System Time T o set the system date and time, key in the correct information in the appropriate fi elds. Then press the <Enter> key to save the data. System Date Using the arrow keys, highlight the month, day and year fi elds, and enter the correct data.
4-4 X7DWU User's Manual 32 Bit I/O This option allows the user to enable or disable the function of 32-bit data transfer . The options are Enabled and Disabled . T ransfer Mode This option allows the user to set the transfer mode. The options are Standard , Fast PIO1, Fast PIO2, Fast PIO3, Fast PIO4, FPIO3/DMA1 and FPIO4/DMA2.
Chapter 4: BIOS 4-5 ESB2 RAID CodeBase (A vailable when SA T A RAID is Enabled.) Select Intel to enable Intel's SA T A RAID fi rmware. Select Adaptec to use Adapt- ec's HostRAID fi rmware. The options are Intel and Adaptec. SA T A AHCI (A vailable when SA T A RAID is Disabled.
4-6 X7DWU User's Manual 4-4 Advanced Setup Choose Advanced from the Setup Utility menu with the arrow keys. Y ou should see the following display . The items with a triangle beside them have submenus that can be accessed by highlighting the item and pressing <Enter>.
Chapter 4: BIOS 4-7 Resume On Modem Ring Select On to “wake your system up” when an incoming call is received by your modem. The options are On and Off . EFI OS Boot If enabled, this feature provides support for EFI OS booting. The options are En- abled and Disabled .

4-10 X7DWU User's Manual Large Disk Access Mode This setting determines how large hard drives are to be accessed. The options are DOS or Other (for Unix, Novelle NetW are and other operating systems). Advanced Chipset Control Access the submenu to make changes to the following settings.
Chapter 4: BIOS 4-1 1 W arning : If set to 1.8V , damage may occur to FBDIMM memory modules that only support 1.5V . Memory Branch Mode This option determines how the two memory branches operate. System address space can either be interleaved between the two branches or Sequential from one branch to another .
4-12 X7DWU User's Manual Thermal Throttle Select Enabled to enable closed-loop thermal throttling on a fully buffered (FBD) memory module. In the closed-loop thermal environment, thermal throttling will be activated when the temperature of the FBD DIMM module exceeds a prede fi ned threshold.
Chapter 4: BIOS 4-13 (RTC) can in synchronizing multimedia streams, providing smooth playback and reducing the dependency on other timestamp calculation devices, such as an x86 RDTSC Instruction embedded in a CPU. The High Precision Event Timer is used to replace the 8254 Programmable Interval T imer .
4-14 X7DWU User's Manual C1/C2 Enhanced Mode (A vailable if supported by the CPU.) Set to Enabled to enable Enhanced Halt (C1) State and Stop Clock (C2) State to lower CPU voltage/frequency to prevent the processor from overheating. The op- tions are Enabled and Disabled .
Chapter 4: BIOS 4-15 Note: If there is any change to this setting, you will need to power off and restart the system for the change to take effect. Please refer to Intel’ s web site for details.
4-16 X7DWU User's Manual Base I/O Address This setting allows you to select the base I/O address for Serial Port B. The options are 3F8, 2F8 , 3E8 and 2E8. Interrupt This setting allows you to select the IRQ (interrupt request) for Serial Port B.
Chapter 4: BIOS 4-17 Console Redirection Access the submenu to make changes to the following settings. COM Port Address This item allows you to specify which COM port to direct the remote console to: Onboard COM A or Onboard COM B. The default setting is Disabled .
4-18 X7DWU User's Manual Hardware Monitor This feature allows the user to monitor system health and review the status of each item as displayed. Overheat Alarm This option allows the user to select the CPU Overheat Alarm setting which de- termines when the CPU OH alarm will be activated to provide warning of possible CPU overheat.
Chapter 4: BIOS 4-19 CPU is still within its normal operating state and below the CPU ‘T emperature T olerance’. The motherboard fans and CPU will run normally as con fi gured in the BIOS. The fans may adjust to a faster speed depending on the Fan Speed Control settings.
4-20 X7DWU User's Manual IPMI (The option is available only when an IPMI card is installed in the system.) IPMI Speci fi cation V ersion: This item displays the current IPMI V ersion. Firmware V ersion: This item displays the current Firmware V ersion.
Chapter 4: BIOS 4-21 OS Boot W atch Dog Set to Enabled to enable OS Boot W atch Dog. The options are Enabled and Dis- abled . Timer for Loading OS (Minutes) This feature allows the user to set the time value (in minutes) for the previous item: OS Boot W atch Dog by keying-in a desired number in the blank.

Chapter 4: BIOS 4-23 VLAN T agging Select Enabled to enable Virtual LAN(s) for IPMI connections and allow the user to con fi gure VLAN settings. The options are Enabled and Disabled . VLAN ID If VLAN T agging above is set to Enabled, this item allows the user to change the VLAN ID.
