Using your TomTom RIDER 2. 4 Using your TomTom RIDER Switching on 1. Open the compartment on the bottom of your TomTom RIDER. 2. Push the memory card into the memory card slot. 3. Press and hold the On/Off button for 2 seconds, or until your TomTom RIDER starts.

6 Locating your current position Your TomTom RIDER must be outside to be able to locate yo ur current position. Make sure that you are in an open place without tall buildings or tr ees around you. The first time you start your RIDER, it can take a few minutes for the device to find your current position .
7 4. Click the On/Off button on the picture of your RIDER to switch it on in TomTom HOME. Your RIDER starts in TomTom HOME . You can now set the password on your RIDER using TomTom HOME. Don't unplug your RIDER, just use it as you normally would by clicking the buttons shown on your computer.
Making your first journey 3. 8 Making your first journey Planning a route with your TomTom RIDER is easy. To plan your first route, follow the steps below. Important : You have to plan your journey be fore you start riding. For safety, once you start moving only the Safety Driving Menu is shown.
9 In other countries you can enter a postcode to identify a town or area. You will then have to enter a street and house number. • Crossing or intersection - tap this button to set your destination as the point where two streets meet. In this example, we will enter an exact addres s.
10 The route is calculated by your RIDER. 9. When the route has been calculated, tap Done . Your RIDER will immediately begin to guide you to your destinati on, using both spoken instructions and on-screen directions. Arrival times When you plan a route, your TomTom RIDER asks you if you need to arrive at a particular time.
11 What are the other navigation options? When you tap Navigate to... , you can set your destination in many ways, not just by entering the address. The othe r options are listed below: Home T ap this button to navigate to your Home location. Y ou will probably use this button more than any other .
12 Planning a route in advance You can also use your RIDER to plan journeys in advance by selecting both your starting point and your destinat ion. You could, for example, do the following: • Find out how long a journey is going to take before you start.
13 Browse map of route T ap this button to see an overview of the route using the map browser . Show route summary T ap this button to open the route summary screen.
Driving View 4. 14 Driving View When your TomTom RIDER starts, you are shown the Dr iving View along with detailed information about your current location. Tap the centre of the screen at any time to open the Main Menu. Note : The Driving View is shown in black and white until your RIDER locates your current position.
Menus 5. 15 Menus Main menu Tap the screen at any time when TomT om RIDER displays the Driving View to open the Main Menu. • Navigate to... Tap this button to start planning a route. • Find alternative... Tap this button if you want to avoid part of your rout e, trav el via a specif ic location or calculate an al ternative route.
16 To hide these buttons again, tap Show fewer menu options in the Preference s menu. Safety Driving Menu If you tap the screen when you are riding, the Safety Driving Menu is shown. When you use your RIDER in a car, this menu is not shown. • Navigate to… Tap this button to select a destination.
Finding alternative routes 6. 17 Finding alternative routes Once you have planned a route, you may want to change something about the route, without changing your destination. Why change the route? Maybe fo r one of the se reasons: • You can see a roadbl ock or a line of tr affic ahead.
18 Travel via... T ap this button to change your route so that it passes a particular location, perhaps to pick someone up on the way . Y ou choose the location you want to pass in the same way as you choose a destination. So you can select from all the same options: for example, Address , Favourite , Point of Interest and Poin t on map .
Browse Map 7. 19 Browse Map To look at the map in the sam e way as you might look at a tradit ional paper map, tap Browse ma p in the Main Menu. You can move the map by touching the screen and moving your finger across the screen. A The scale bar B Your current position.
20 Position the cursor over a location on the map, then tap one of the following buttons: Navigate there T ap this button to navigate to the curs or position. Y our RIDER will calculate the route. Find POI nearby T ap this button to find a POI near the cursor position.
Favourites 8. 21 Favourites What are Favourites? Favourites are places that you often visit. You can create Favourites so that you don’t have to enter the address every time you want to navigate there. They don’t have to be places you es pecially like, just useful addresses.
22 Recent destination Select a F avourite location from a list of places you have recently used as destinations. Point of Interest Y ou can add a P oint o f Interest (POI) as a Favourite. Does it make sense to do this? If you visit a POI you particularly like, for example a restaurant , you can add it as a Favourite.
23 How can I use a Favourite? You will normally use a F avourite as a way of navigating to a place without having to enter the address. To naviga te to a Favourite, do the following: 1. Tap the screen to bring up the Main Menu. 2. Tap Navigate to... 3.
Points of Interest 9. 24 Points of Interest Points of Interest or POIs are useful places on the map. Here are some examples: • Restaurants •H o t e l s •M u s e u m s • Parking garages • Petrol stations Showing POIs on the map 1. Tap Show POIs on map in the Preferences me nu.
25 You can select from a list of POIs which ar e along your route or close to your destination. Choose from one of these options: • POI along route • POI near destinatio n Note : The last POI you viewed is also show n so that you can plan a route there more quickly.
26 Note : The Manage POIs button is only available when all menu buttons are shown. To show all menu buttons, tap Show ALL menu options in the Preferences menu. You can, for example, do the following: • Create your own POI categories and add POIs to them.
27 Home Y ou can set your Home location as a POI. If you want to change your Home location, you can create a POI of the Home location before you change it. Favourite Y ou can create a POI from a F avourite. Y ou can only create a limited number of F avourites.
28 How can I set warnings for POIs? 1. Tap the screen to bring up the main menu. 2. Tap Change preferences . 3. Tap Manage POIs . Note : The Manage POIs button is only available when all menu buttons are shown. To show all menu buttons, tap Show ALL menu options in the Preferences menu.
Itinerary Planning 10. 29 Itinerary Planning What is an Itinerary? An Itinerary is a plan f or a journey including more lo cations than your fi nal destination. An Itinerary can include the following i tems: • Destination - a location on your journey where you want to stop.
30 2. Tap Itinerary planning . Note : This button may only be available if all menu options are shown. To show all menu options, tap Sho w ALL menu options in the Preferences me nu. 3. Tap Add and select a location. Tip: You can add items to your Itinerary in any orde r and rearrange the order later.
31 Start using an Itinerary Tap Options , then tap Start navigation . To save an Itinerar y, tap Save Itinerary . To load a saved Itinerar y, tap Load Itinerary . To create a new Itinerary, tap New Itinerary and to delete one, tap Delete Itinerary . Mark ‘to visit ’ T ap this button to repeat part of your Itinerary .
Hands-free calling 11. 32 Hands-free calling If you have a mobile phone with Bluetooth®, you can use your TomTom RIDER to make phone calls and send and receive messages. Note : Not all phones are supported or comp atible with all features. For more information, go to tomtom.
33 Not all phones can transfer their phonebook to your RIDER. For more information, visit www. TomTom .com/phones Making a call Once you have established a connection with your phone, you can start making calls. 1. Tap Mobile phone in the Main Menu. 2.
34 Mobile phone menu The available buttons are listed below: Redial T ap this button to redial a telephone number using your mobile phone. Preferences 12. 35 Preferences Hidden buttons and features When you first start using your TomTom RIDER, all the buttons are shown in the menu. The buttons for the more advanced featur es can be hidden. This is a useful option because you are unlikely to use certain features very often.
36 Show POI on map Change 2D/3D display / Turn on 2D display When should I use this ? In some situations, it is easier to see the map from above. Perhaps if the road network is complicated or for times when you are walki ng while using your RIDER to navigate.
37 Turn off sound / Turn on sound Can I still use my RIDER to make hands-fr ee calls when the sound is tu rned off? Yes. Turning the sound off does not affect hands-free calling, meaning that you will still be able to talk to and hear the cal ler.
38 Manage maps This button may only be available i f al l menu options are shown. To show all menu options, tap Show ALL menu opti ons in the Preferences menu. 41 Safety preferences What happens when I use the Turn off map display option? When you turn off the map display, inst ead of seeing your position on a map in the Driving View, you will only see information about the next i nstruction. Tap the button and select an option for when the map should be turned off.
42 Instruction preferences Name preferences This button may only be available i f al l menu options are shown. To show all menu options, tap Show ALL menu opti ons in the Preferences menu. Set units This button may only be available i f al l menu options are shown.

TomTom Traffic 13. 49 TomTom T raffi c TomTom Traffic is a TomTom S ervic e for receiving up-to-date traffic information. TomTom Traffic requires a Bluetooth enabled mobile phone and a wireless data connection (GPRS, EDGE, UMTS , CDMA). TomTom Traffic uses the most up-to-da te inform ation fr om the best l ocal sources.
50 Tip : Providing you have a conne ction between your device and mobile phone, You can retrieve the latest traffic in formation straight away by tapping the Update traffic info button in the Traffi c menu. Using TomTom Traffic 2. Tap Minimise delays .
51 To do this, tap Change Traffic preferences in the Traffic menu. Select Automatically update traffic info while on route , then tap Done . You are then asked if you want to limit how often Traffic is updated.
Introducing TomTom HOME 14. 52 Introducing TomTom HOME TomTom HOME is a free appl ication fo r your computer that hel ps you manage the contents of your TomTom device. Co nnect to HOME frequently to get the latest u pdates fo r your devi ce. You can, for example, do the following: • Manage maps, vo ices, POIs and more.
How does navigation work? 15. 53 How does navigation work? Global Positioning System (GPS) In order to naviga te you to your destination, your TomTom RIDER must know where you are now. To find your curr ent position, your TomTom RIDER uses the Global Positioning System (GPS).
