T raining • R ead, understand, and follo w all instructions on the machine and in the man ual(s) before operating this machine . Be thoroughly familiar with the controls and the proper use of the mac hine. Know ho w to stop the mac hine and disengage the controls quic kly .
• Disengag e po wer to the rotor blades when mac hine is transported or not in use . • Never operate the mac hine without good visibility or light. Alwa ys be sure of y our footing, and keep a r m hold on the handles . W alk; nev er run. • Never touch a hot engine or m ufer .
Safety and Instructional Decals Important: Safety and instruction decals are located near areas of potential danger . Replace damaged decals. 1 17-6047 1.
Setup Loose Parts Use the chart below to verify that all parts have been shipped. Procedure Description Qty . 2 Installing the Recoil Starter Handle No Parts Required Procedure Install the recoil starter handle in the rope guide as shown in Figure 4. Figure 4 1.

Note: Ensure that a gap of 1/16 to 1/8 inc h (2 to 3 mm) exists between the control bar and the handle (Figure 8). Important: The control ca ble must contain some slack when y ou disengage the control bar for the rotor blades to stop proper ly . Adjusting the Control Cable 1.

Important: Do not tip the machine all the w ay forward onto its nose, or fuel may leak out of the machine. Max ll: 12 oz. (0.35 l), type: automoti ve detergent oil with an API ser vice classication of SJ , SL, or higher .

Engaging the Rotor Blades T o engage the rotor blades , hold the control bar against the handle (Figure 20). Figure 20 1. Control bar Disengaging the Rotor Blades T o disengage the rotor blades , release the control bar (Figure 21).
Figure 24 1. T rigger 2. Chute deector Clearing a Clogged Discharge Chute Important: Hand contact with the rotating rotor blades inside the discharge chute is the most common cause of injur y associated with machine. Never use y our hand to clean out the discharge chute.

3. Place an oil drain pan under the oil drain plug (Figure 11), remo v e the oil drain plug, and tip the machine backw ard (handle do wn) halfw ay to the g round to drain the used oil into the oil drain pan. Important: Do not tip the machine all the w ay back to the ground, or fuel may leak out of the machine.

Replacing the Drive Belt If driv e belt becomes w orn, oil-soaked, ex cessiv ely crack ed, frayed, or otherwise damaged, replace the belt.
Important: Ensure that y ou install the drive belt so that it sits abov e the two ta bs on the idler ar m and below the idler ar m brak e (Figure 31). 7. Install the driv e belt co v er with the fasteners that you remov ed in step 1. Storage Storing the Machine W ARNING • Gasoline fumes are highly ammable, explosive, and dangerous if inhaled.
