12 D VB-C function notice D VB-C (Digital Video Broadcasting - Cable) is the D VB European c onsor tium standard for the broadc ast transmission of digital television o ver cab le. This system trans mits an MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 f amily digita l audio/video stream, using a QAM modulation with channel coding.
13 Using the A uto Brightness Sensor When the Auto Brightness S ensor f eature is set to On , the TV will automatically optimise the backlighting le vels to suit ambient light conditions. 1 Press MENU SETUP or DIGIT AL MENU to display the Main Men u screen.
14 A uto setup Y our TV has an automa tic instal lation routine which makes installation easy . W hen you turn on the TV for the first time, the automatic installation routine is activated.
15 Au t o s e t u p (continued) Note: • The Auto Tuning process will only start by itself the first time you turn on the TV/DVD. To enable Auto Tuning in a later time, see page 19. 6 Press to sel ect Auto T uning , and then press ENTER/CH LIST . A message prompt will appear with option to connect aerial to TV .
16 *DTV auto tuning/Setting Antenna or Cable Preparations : • Turn on the TV with the button on its left side.The power indicator will light green. To place the TV in standby mode, press on the remote control. Power indicator will change from green to red.
17 *DTV auto tuning/Setting Antenna or Cable (continued) Note: • All the channels will be deleted before the scanning process begins. • You can cancel the scan process at any time by pressing EXIT/CANCEL . The carriers and the services stored before EXIT/CANCEL is pressed will be stored.

20 Changing the or der of stored channels Note: • When changing the order of channels, it is best to start with Ch1. Changing the or der of stored chan nels The Automatic station presetting stores channels in a specific order . Howe ver , this order can be changed if you wish.
21 Manual TV station presetting The Auto T uning process stores all av ailable stations in the reception area. Howe ver , so me stations w ith weak or poor reception may not be detected.
22 Manual TV station presetting (contin ued) • *When Ant/Cable In is set to Cable , the follow ing inform ation will be displayed: - Frequency(kHz) : A specific frequency can be input for scanning. - Symbol Rate : A specific b aud rate (KS/s) can be input for manual scanning.
23 Basic operation Note: • If the built-in tuner does not receive anything (e.g. if no antenna is connected) during TV operation, the TV will change to standby mode after approx. 15 minutes. •P r e s s TV/RADIO to switch between the three service categories: TV, Radio, and Data.
24 Basic operation (continued) Note: • In the Basic Service Information , the name of channels and services appears in full not in abbreviation. • Depending on the availability of DVB-C function, the Basic Service Information here may be different from that shown on your TV.
25 Te l e t e x t A teletext service offers a range of te xt-based information, typi cally includ ing news stories, sport ar ticles, weather forecast s, and TV schedules. Inf or mation is sent page by page. The TV can store up to 256 pages, b ut they can only be accessed once the y hav e been stored.
26 Stereo reception with the b uilt-in analogue tuner The TV’ s built-in tuner can detect and rece ive NICAM stereo broadcasts automatically . Note: Bad reception can cause disturbance to stereo sound. In some cases, NICAM stereo sound may not be received correctly.
27 Picture f ormat The broadcaster may tr ansmit a widescreen signaling (WSS) signal which ca n determine the correct height/width of pictures and hav e it set automatically when the setting Au t o is selected. If you want to change this setting, you can select from the formats listed below .
28 A V colour adjustment Use the A V Colour menu option to adjust the picture colour settings in A V mode. These settings do not apply when the TV is in any other mode. Note: • DVD players that play NTSC DVDs (i.e. multi- region/region code-free) can produce different signals based on the player model.

32 Using REGZA-LINK ® This is a new f eature that us es CEC technology and allows you to control T oshiba REGZA-LINK ® compatible de vices from the TV remote via HDMI connection (see page 79). When the Enable REGZA-LINK in the REGZA-LINK Setup menu (see page 35) is set to On , the follo wing REGZA-LINK ® functions will be enabled.

34 Using REGZA-LINK ® (continued) REGZA-LINK ® input source selection If a REGZ A-LINK ® device with HDMI switching capability (e .g. Audio Receiv er) is connected to the HDMI input, you can select another REGZA-LINK ® device that is connected to the master HDMI device using INPUT on the remote control or INPUT/ENTER on the TV control panel.
35 Using REGZA-LINK ® (continued) Note: • When you turn on a REGZA-LINK ® compatible audio receiver, change its input source, or adjust the sound volume, the sound will be output from the audio receiver’s speakers even if TV Speakers has been selected.

44 P assw or d setup (P arental lock) (DTV mode onl y) Note: • There are 15 age-based ratings, ranging from “4” (years old) to “18” (years old), “None” and “Block All”.

46 Software upgrade (DTV mode onl y) Note: • Do not disconnect the AC cord when the software upgrade is in progress, as this may cause the upgrade to f ail. At this time you cannot use an y of the buttons . • When the TV searches for a software upgrade signal, the message “Please wait.
47 Common interface (DTV mode onl y) Common Interface Y ou can access the C ommon Interf ace module information from this menu option. Preparations: Inser t CAM into the D VB Common Interf ace (C.I.) slot on the side of the TV (see page 8). 1 Press MENU SETUP or DIGIT AL MENU to displa y the Main Menu screen.
48 Multi audio (DTV mode only) Multi audio The Multi audio menu enables y ou to choose your pref erred audio mode and D VB (Digital Video Broadcasting) subtitle language s available f or the curr ent broadcasting programmes. 1 Press A UDIO SELECT to display the Multi audio menu.
49 D VB-Subtitle (DTV mode onl y) D VB-Subtitle D VB-Subtitle is a feature support ed by D VB (Digital Video Broadcasting) applications. It provides on-screen te xt display in par allel wi th the correspond ing audio ser vices, and can be enabled or disabled at an y time.
50 EPG (Electr onic Pr ogram Guide) (DTV mode only) The Guide menu shows a list of a vailab le programmes f or the next eight days only , including toda y . Howe v er , it will show “No Event Name” f or programmes which are more than eight da ys ahead, or f or programmes within the eight days when no programme inf ormation is availabl e.
51 EPG Timer (DTV mode onl y) Y ou can choose whether or not to switch on your TV screen when a timer ev ent begins (see page 31: Rec Scree n Status (LCD P ower on/off)). This is so that if y ou are using the timer to make a recording from your VCR or other device , the TV screen wil l not turn on un less you want it to .
52 Disc D VD discs must be Region 5 or Region ALL type to play on this TV/D VD . If region numbers, which stand for their pla yab le area, are printed on your D VD and you do not find or , disc pla yback will not be allowed b y the play er . (In this case, the TV/D VD will display a message on-screen).
53 Basic pla ybac k This section shows you ho w to play a disc. Note: • When a disc is inserted when the TV is not in DVD mode, the TV will automatically switch to DVD mode.

55 Ad v anced pla ybac k The TV suppor ts sev eral playbac k modes that allow you to pla y discs at various speeds. Play ing in fast re verse or fast forwar d direction (D VD/VCD/A udio CD) 1 Press REV / F F during playback. • REV : Fast reverse playback • FF : Fast forward playback Each time you press REV / FF , the playback speed changes.
56 Zoom function/Scene na vigation Using the Zoom function (D VD/VCD) Y ou can change the viewing scale of a picture by using the Zoom function. Once the image has been rescaled, use the arrow buttons / to pan the image. 1 Press CH RTN ZOOM dur ing playback.
57 Scene bookmark Note: • Bookmark function is not applicable to JPEG CD/ DivX ® CD. Bookmarking a s cene (D VD/VCD/A udio CD) Scene bookmarks refer to specific points in the playbac k range that have been marked f or la ter access. Y ou can create up to three mar kers per disc.
58 Repeat pla ybac k/A-B repeat pla ybac k Enabling repeat pla ybac k (D VD/VCD) Y ou ca n choose to repeat D V D pla yback b y titl e or chapter . For VCDs, y ou can repeat a single track or the entire disc. 1 Press PLA Y MODE dur ing playbac k or stop mode.
59 Scene angle/Title selection/D VD menu Changing the scene angle (D VD) When play ing back a D VD recorded with mult i-angle scenes, you can select the scene angle that you pref er . 1 Press ANGLE dur ing playbac k. The current angle will appear. 2 Press ANGLE repeatedly until the pre f erred scene angle is displayed.
60 Soundtrac k language/A udio channel/Subtitle Selecting a sound track langua ge (D VD) Y ou can select the soundtrack language when y ou play a multilingual D VD . During playbac k, press A UDIO SELECT repeatedly until the preferred language is selected.
61 Pla ybac k inf ormation/VCD pla ybac k contr ol (PBC) Viewing the pla ybac k information (D VD/VCD) Y ou can view the playbac k status and other disc information. Press to display the status of the disc during pla yback. T o close the display panel, press again.
62 MP3/JPEG/DivX ® and A udio CD operation This TV can play MP3/JPEG/DivX ® files recorded on CD-R and CD-R W discs. T o create an MP3/JPEG/DivX ® disc, y ou need a Windows PC with a CD-RW driv e and f ile encoding software (not supplied).

64 Pla ying an audio file 1 Load an MP3 or audio CD in the disc slot. The file browser appears on- screen. The first audio file in the list plays automatically (applicable only to audio CD). 2 Press to select another audio file for pla yback. 3 Press ENTER/C H LIST or PLA Y to sta rt playback.
65 JPEG file operation Note: • The Jump and A-B Repeat modes are not available when viewing JPEG images. • When an image exceeds 5760 x 3840 pixels, the image display can ap pear cropped. This applies when viewing the image in the Preview panel of the file browser, or when in the thumbnail, full-screen, or slide show modes.
66 DivX ® and DivX ® V OD operation Note: • Depending on the recording conditions of DivX ® file, you may not be able to use the Fast Reverse, Fast Forward playback, and Jump functions (see pages 55- 56). DivX ® playback 1 Load a disc containing DivX ® files in the disc slot.
67 MP3/JPEG/DivX ® and A udio CD playbac k modes Note: • These playback modes are only applicable during the current session. Once you eject the disc or turn off the TV, these modes will be disabled. • For audio CD, the A-B Repeat function can also be used (see page 58).

Y ou have the option to select the content rating le vel allowed f or pla yback in your TV . Y ou will be prompted to key in the system password to access this setting option.

76 T e mporary cancel the rating level b y D VD disc 1 Load a D VD disc. 2 If the D VD disc has been designed to temporarily c ancel the rating lev el, the screen which fo llows the Reading screen will change, depending on which disc is pla yed. If you select Ye s and press ENTER/CH LIST , the passw ord input screen will t hen appear .
77 PC connection As PCs are sometimes supplied with a “conv entional” CRT monito r , you ma y need to adjust the display settings of y our PC’ s graphic card; otherwise the pictures ma y not appear correctly .
78 Connecting an HDMI or D VI device to the HDMI input The HDMI input on your TV receiv es digital audio and un compressed video fro m an HDMI-equi pped device , or uncompressed digital video from a D VI-eq uipped (Dig ital Visual Interface) de vice.
79 REGZA-LINK ® connection Y ou can contro l the basic functions of connected audio/video devices using the TV’ s remote control if you connect a REGZA- LINK ® compatible audio receiver or pla yback de vice. F or an explanation of setup and operations, see pages 32-35.
80 Connecting TV to other equipment 1 Connecting aerials and other devices to your TV Connect the TV’ s coaxial cable directly to the aerial input jack at the bac k of the TV . Caution: Befo re connecting: • Make sure to disconnect the appliance from the power supply in order to avoid any potential damage from occurring.
81 Connecting TV to other equipment (continued) 3 Connecting a D VD player D VD play er can be connected to the TV either by a SCAR T cable or a standard audio cabl e along with a component video cable (see 5 on this page). In this case, a SCAR T cable is required f or the connection.
