3 For your safety SETTING UP This equipment has been designed and manufactured to meet international safety standards but, like any electrical equipment, care must be taken if you are to obtain the best results and safety is to be assured. So, please read the points below for your own safety .
4 SETTING UP Y our new television ’s remote control Remove the back cover to reveal the battery compartment and make sure you insert the batteries the right way round. Suitable battery types for this remote are R03 or AAA. Do not throw your old batteries into a fire, dispose of them in a designated disposal area.
SETTING UP 5 In order to enjoy the full benefits of Surround Sound it is necessary to connect two rear surround speakers and two front extension speakers. When connecting external Hi-Fi speak ers, they must be 8 ohm, 1 0W minimum . The front speakers should be positioned either side of the TV and will deliver the left and right sound.
SETTING UP 6 Connecting and turning on your new TV The TV back connections… T o conserve energy it is best to turn your TV off and not to leave it in Standby , unless the timer has been set. Connect the aerial to the socket on the rear of the television.
7 Choosing the language and system*, Auto tuning SETTING UP Before running Auto tuning turn on your Set T op Box and tune to a main channel. Also turn on the video recorder and set it to Standby . This will enable your television to allocate the necessary programme positions.

11 USING Y OUR TV General and sound controls Press the MENU button on the remote control, and the S or R button to select the SOUND option from the top bar . Press the Q button to highlight Bass, T reble or Balance from the SOUND menu and then the S or R button to change the setting.
USING Y OUR TV 12 SUPER LIVE SUPER LIVE P re ss th e { b u tton rep ea te d ly to view th e o p tio n s a va ila b le . This setting will enlarge the image to fit the screen by stretching the image horizontally , holding the correct proportions at the centre of the image.
USING Y OUR TV 13 Picture size/position Picture controls When this TV receives a true Widescreen picture and Automatic format is ON , it will automatically be displayed in Widescreen format, irrespective of the TV ’s previous setting . Press the MENU button, and use either the S or R button to select the FEA TURE MENU .
DNR – Digital Noise R eduction Select DNR from the PICTURE menu. Select between AUTO and OFF to obtain the best picture. The differences may not always be noticeable.
15 Select the TIMER option from the top menu bar . Select the On timer (or the Off timer ). If , for example, you want the TV to turn ON (or OFF) in one and a half hours time, enter 01:30 using the numbered buttons on the remote control. If setting the Off timer press EXIT .

SPECIAL SOUND FEA TURES 17 Dolby Digital Dolby Digital is available from DVD players, some games console players, etc. These must be connected using a Scart or phono lead for the picture AND an optical or a coaxial cable for the sound see page 24 . Dolby Digital Adjustments Set the volume and balance of the front speakers to your preference.
SPECIAL SOUND FEA TURES 18 Press the M button to bring up the SURROUND menu. With Dolby Pro Logic selected, EXIT and go to the FEA TURE MENU . Ensure that the Rear speaker option is set to YES , then run the Surround test from the Surround set up menu.

CONNECTING O THER EQUIPMENT F ront connections and controls Y ou can connect a wide variety of external equipment via the sockets located behind the flap on the front of the TV . P ress the centre of the flap to open it Before connecting any external equipment, turn off all main power switches.
24 Before connecting any external equipment, turn off all main power switches. On the back of the TV are 3 Scart sockets, and a selection of phono sockets, all of which will enable you to connect a variety of equipment. DA -1 and DA -2 enable the input of Digital Audio signals.

A Check that Panel lock is not ON . A Good performance of text depends on a good strong broadcast signal. This normally requires a roof or loft aerial. If the text is unreadable or garbled, check your aerial. Go to the main index page of the teletext service and look for the User Guide .
A Check that the switch on the side is in TV mode. Check that the batteries aren ’t dead and that they are inserted correctly . Why doesn’t the remote control work? FOR Y OUR GUIDANCE 27 Q A Blue screen in the FEA TURE MENU is ON . When no signal is being received, the TV will turn off the sound and switch the TV screen to blue.
