8 Introduction On DVD-RAM discs Use only D VD-RAM discs that comply with D VD- RAM standard Ver sion 2.0, 2.1 or 2.2. The recorder cannot record on a disc f or matted in any other standard. When using such a disc, initializ e it by using the disc-f or mat function of this recorder .

10 Introduction Playback side On handling discs Do not touch the pla yback side of the disc. Do not stick paper or tape to discs . On cleaning discs Finger prints and dust on the disc cause picture and sound deterioration. Wipe the disc from the center outwards with a soft cloth.

26 Con ventional video cassette recorder s have required tapes to record, while this recorder enables recording on a D VD-RAM/R/RW disc whene ver you want, without selecting an av ailable tape and confirming a point to start a recording from.

T o play a D VD-R disc recorded on this recorder on other de vices, finalize the D VD-R disc on this recorder .

32 Selecting a disc accor ding to purposes of use (D VD-RAM/D VD-R/R W) There are various types of discs ha ving different standards. Select one for y our purpose of use . • Editing after recording (e.g. deleting unnecessar y por tions, dividing chapters).

39 Pla yback Recor ding Editing Others Introduction Function setup 1 Press INPUT SELECT repeatedly so that “ L-1 ” or “ L-2 ” appears on the fr ont panel display , corresponding to the input in which the de vice is connected. Each time you press the b utton, the indicator changes.
40 Notes on recor ding from a connected VCR or camcorder Check the condition of the sour ce equipment before playing. Set the equipment in good condition, e.g. clean the head or adjust the tracking, etc. to obtain optimum pla yback. Bad condition ma y produce noises in playback.

42 Programing a recording (Contin ued) Recording A timer program with this mark will be e xecuted. T o disengage, remov e this indicator . Select a channel you w ant to record. Select a date of a TV program y ou want to record. Enter a star ting time of recording.

46 Delaying the end time of a pr ogrammed recording while it is recor ding While a programmed recor ding is in progress, press EXTEND. The first press displays the prog rammed end time (in the front panel displa y). Each time you press the b utton, it is delay ed 10 minutes, up to 60 minutes .

48 T echnical inf ormation About recording time The recording time of a typical VCR (Video Cassette Recorder) is determined by the length of a video tape and recording speed (SP , LP , etc.). Video tapes with various recording times are a vailable in the market.

56 Playing a DVD video disc (Continued) Playback Resuming playback from the location last stopped (Resume Play) Y ou can resume playbac k from the location where you stopped at. If you press PLA Y button after stopping pla yback, pla yback resumes from the location you ha ve stopped.

58 Introduction Playback DVD-RAM Pla ying a TV pr ogram currentl y being recor ded (Chase Pla y) Y ou can begin pla yback fr om the beginning of a program currently being recor ded. Y ou will find this function of great ad vantage on long programs, as you do not have to wait f or the end of recording to begin playback.

74 Pausing a TV broadcast (Freeze function) While watching a TV broadcast through this recor der , y ou can pause it. Ho wever , e ven if an image is still on the screen, the picture is running on the broadcast and y ou can still hear the sound on-going.
