4 Introduction 13. LIGHTNING T o protect your unit from a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna or cable system. This will prevent damage to the unit due to lightning and power line surges.

6 Introduction Notes on moisture condensation Moisture condensation damages the unit. Please read the following carefully . Moisture condensation occurs, for example, when you pour a cold drink into a glass on a warm day . Drops of water form on the outside of the glass.
7 Introduction Structure of disc contents Normally , DVD video discs are divided into titles, and the titles are sub-divided into chapters. Video CDs and Audio CDs are divided into tracks.
8 Introduction DIGITAL VIDEO Playable discs This unit can play the following discs. • Y ou cannot play discs other than those listed above. • Y ou cannot play discs of DVD-RAM, DVD-ROM, Photo CD, etc., or non standardized discs even if they may be labeled as above.

12 Introduction 12 3 • Aim the remote control at the remote sensor and press control buttons to operate. • Operate the remote control within 30° angle on either side of the remote sensor , up to a distance of approx. 5 meters. Approx. 5 meters Replace the compartment cover .

14 Connections For basic cable service not requiring a converter/descrambler box, connect the Cable TV 75 ohm coaxial cable directly to the Antenna jack on the back of the TV/DVD.
15 Connections Press the INPUT SELECT to select the “LINE” (external input) to use the TV as a monitor. Operate your VCR as usual. To playback from the camcorder, connect the camcorder to the TV/DVD as shown. You can enjoy playing a TV game on the screen by adjusting to suitable brightness for your eyes.
16 Connections Connecting to optional equipment (Continued) Y ou can enjoy high quality dynamic sounds by connecting the TV/DVD to optional audio equipment.
17 Connections MPEG2 sound Y ou can enjoy motion picture and live concert DVD video discs with dynamic realistic sound by connecting an amplifier equipped with an MPEG2 audio decoder or MPEG2 audio processor .
18 Starting setup The STARTING SETUP function makes installing your TV/DVD easily. It leads you the Language selection, TV/CABLE selection and auto channel memory automatically. IMPORTANT: Make sure that the antenna or cable TV system connection is made! Starting setup Press or to select “TV” or “CABLE”, then press ENTER.
19 Notes: • If the unit does not operate properly , or No key operation (by the unit and/or the remote control): Static electricity , etc., may affect the player's operation. Disconnect the AC power cord once, then connect it again. • The TV section has its own menu and also DVD section has its own menu (see page 37).
20 TV operation TV operation Adjust the volume level by pressing VOL + or –. The volume level will be indicated on the screen by green bars. As the volume level increases, so do the number of bars. If the volume decreases, the number of green bars also decreases.
21 TV operation ■ CHANNEL UP/DOWN Press and release CH + or – . The channel automati- cally stops at the next channel set into memory . For proper operation, before selecting channels, they should be set into the memory . See page 23 “T o memorize channels”.
22 TV operation Closed captions Captions: This closed caption mode will display text on the screen in English or another language (depending on the setting of the closed captions CH 1/2). Generally , closed captions in English are transmitted on captions channel 1 and closed captions in other lan- guages are transmitted on captions channel 2.

24 TV operation T o register password Notes: • If you forget the password, you cannot set the V -Chip. • T o avoid forgetting the password, write it down and keep in the safe place. Press or to select “PASSWORD”. 1 2 Press MENU, then press or to select option.

27 TV operation Stereo and Second A udio Program (SAP) The TV/DVD is equipped with a feature known as multi-channel TV sound or MTS. MTS broadcasts greatly enhance TV viewing by bringing you programs with high fidelity stereo sound.
28 Basic playback Reading Reading Press STOP to end playback. 3 Resuming facility • The unit records the stopped point, depending on the disc. “ ” appears on the screen. Press PLA Y to resume playback (from the scene point). • If you press STOP again or unload the disc (“ 3 ” appears on the screen.
29 Basic playback T o pause playback (still mode) Press P AUSE during playback. T o resume normal playback, press PLA Y . • The sound is muted during still mode. T o stop playback Press STOP . T o remove the disc Press OPEN/CLOSE . Remove the disc after the disc tray opens completely .
30 Basic playback Playing frame by frame Playing in fast reverse or fast forward directions Press REV or FWD during playback. REV : Fast reverse playback FWD : Fast forward playback Each time you press REW or FWD button, the playback speed changes. T o resume normal playback Press PLA Y .
31 Advanced playback Zooming 1 2 Press ZOOM during playback. The centre part of the image will be zoomed in. Each press of ZOOM will change the ZOOM 1 (x 1.3), 2 (x 1.5) and 3 (x 2.0). /// Zooming/Locating desired scene DVD VCD This unit will allow you to zoom in on the frame image.
32 Advanced playback 1 Press REPEAT A-B during playback. The start point is selected. A-B repeat playback allows you to repeat material between two selected points. 2 Notes: • In A-B Repeat mode, subtitles near the A or B locations may not be displayed.
33 Advanced playback Program playback/Random playbac k You can arrange the playback order of tracks or files on the disc. And also the unit selects tracks or files at random and playback them. 34 Advanced playback Changing angles ANGLE ENTER ▲ / ▼ / / TOP MENU PLA Y DVD MENU Title selection DVD menu Press ANGLE during playback. The current angle will appear. When playing back a disc recorded with multi-angle facility, you can change the angle that you are viewing the scene from.
35 Advanced playback 1 2 Press AUDIO during playback. The current soundtrack language will appear. Press AUDIO repeatedly until the desired lan- guage is selected. • The on screen display will disappear after a few seconds. Changing soundtrack language/ Subtitles You can select the language when you play a multilin- gual disc.
36 Advanced playback / AUDIO Karaok e playback/Disc status/ T o turn off the PBC On : The primary vocal is output when it is recorded on the disc. Off : The primary vocal is not output. Press B or A to select “On” or “Off”. Y ou can turn the vocal on or off recorded on the DVD KARAOKE.

39 Function setup Parental control setting Some discs are specified not suitable for children. Such discs can be limited not to play back with the unit. 1) Press C or D to select “Parental”, then press B or A until the level you require appears. • Level Off: The parental control setting does not function.
40 Function setup Reading ENTER ▲ / ▼ RETURN 0–9 PLA Y OPEN/CLOSE Load a DVD disc and press PLAY or OPEN/ CLOSE on the unit (see page 28). If the DVD disc has been designed to temporarily cancel the Rating level, the screen which follows the “Reading” screen will change, depending on which disc is played.
41 Others Others Language code list Enter the appropriate code number for the initial settings “Menu”, “Subtitle” and/or “Audio” (see pages 38).
42 Others SYMPTOMS POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS • Make sure the power cord is plugged in. • Try another AC outlet. • Power is off, check fuse or circuit breaker. • Unplug unit, then plug it back in. Poor reception on some channels. Horizontal or diagonal bars on screen.
43 Others Playback does not start when the title is selected. • Check the RATING LEVEL setup. Audio soundtrack and/or subtitle language is not changed when you play back a DVD. • Multilingual language is not recorded on the DVD disc. No subtitle. • Some discs have no subtitles.
44 Others Most types of television interference can be remedied by adjusting the height and position of the VHF/UHF antenna. Outdoor antennas are recommended for best results.
