14 Connections For basic cable service not requiring a converter/descrambler box, connect the Cable TV 75 ohm coaxial cable directly to the Antenna jack on the back of the TV/DVD.
15 Connections Press INPUT to select the desired mode to use the TV as a monitor. Operate your VCR as usual. To playback from the camcorder, connect the camcorder to the TV/DVD as shown. You can enjoy playing a TV game on the screen by adjusting to suitable brightness for your eyes.

17 Connections MPEG2 sound Y ou can enjo y motion picture and live concer t D VD video discs encoded via the MPEG2 recording system with dynamic realistic sound by connecting an amplifier equipped with an MPEG2 audio decoder or MPEG2 audio processor .
18 Starting setup The STARTING SETUP function makes installing your TV/DVD easily. It leads you the Language selection, TV/CABLE selection and auto channel memory automatically. IMPORTANT: Make sure that the antenna or cable TV system connection is made! Starting setup Press or to select “TV” or “CABLE”, then press ENTER.
19 Notes: • If the unit does not operate properl y , or No key operation (by the unit and/or the remote contr ol): Static electr icity , etc., may aff ect the play er's operation. Disconnect the AC power cord once, then connect it again. • The TV section has its own menu and also D VD section has its own menu 41 .
20 TV operation TV operation Adjust the volume level by pressing VOL + or –. The volume level will be indicated on the screen by green bars. As the volume level increases, so do the number of bars. If the volume decreases, the number of green bars also decreases.
21 TV operation ■ CHANNEL UP/DOWN Press and release CH or . The channel automati- cally stops at the next channel set into memory . For proper operation, before selecting channels, they should be set into the memor y . See page 23 “T o memorize channels”.
22 TV operation Closed captions Captions: This closed caption mode will display te xt on the screen in English or another language (depending on the setting of the closed captions CH 1/2). Generally , closed captions in English are transmitted on captions channel 1 and closed captions in other languages are transmitted on captions channel 2.

27 TV operation STEREO SAP CH 013 Sound control adjustment (MD20F52 only)/ Stereo and Second A udio Program (SAP) Sound controls are factory preset but you can adjust them individually as follows: The TV/DVD is equipped with a feature known as multi-channel TV sound or MTS.
28 Basic playback Press ST OP to end playback. 3 Resuming facility • The unit records the stopped point, depending on the disc. “ ” appears on the screen. Press PLA Y to resume playback (from the scene point). • If you press ST OP again (“ 3 ” appears on the screen.

32 Adv anced playback Marking the scenes Returning to the scenes 1 Press MARKER during playback or stop mode. 2 1 3 Marking desired scenes The unit stores the points that you want to watch again up to 3 points. You can resume playback from each scene.
33 Advanced playback [Video CD, Audio CD, MP3/WMA CD (MD20F52 only)] Press to select “Repeat” and then press ENTER to select “T rack” or “All”. The unit automatically starts repeat playback after finishing the current track. • If you set the repeat mode during stop mode, press PLA Y to star t Repeat pla yback.
34 Adv anced playback VC D CD Program playback/Random playbac k You can arrange the playback order of tracks or files on the disc. And also the unit can playback tracks or files in random order. These feature works for Audio CD, Video CD, MP3/WMA CD (MD20F52 only) and JPEG CD.
35 Adv anced playback Changing angles/T itle selection/D VD menu ANGLE ENTER ▲ / ▼ / / T OP MENU PLA Y D VD MENU Changing angles Press ANGLE during playback. The current angle will appear. When playing back a disc recorded with multi-angle facility, you can change the angle that you are viewing the scene from.
36 Adv anced playback Changing soundtrack language/ Subtitles A UDIO SELECT SUBTITLE You can select the language when you play a multilin- gual disc. When pla ying back a disc recorded with subtitles, you can select the subtitle language or turn the subtitle off.

38 Adv anced playback MP3/WMA CD (MD20F52 only)/JPEG CD information This unit can playback the MP3/WMA/JPEG-data which has been recorded on CD-R or CD-RW. To produce the MP3/WMA/ JPEG-data, you need a Windows-PC with CD-R/RW drive and a MP3/WMA/JPEG-encoding Software (not supplied).
39 Adv anced playback CD MP3/WMA CD playback (MD20F52 only) ENTER ▲ / ▼ / / ST OP PLA Y 0–9 MP3/WMA CD pla yback (MD20F52 onl y) Place a disc on which MP3 or WMA files have been recorded onto the disc tray. A file menu screen will appear on the screen.
40 Adv anced playback JPEG CD playback You can select your desired JPEG file on the file menu and picture menu. The selected JPEG file is automatically adjusted to the TV screen. (When the aspect ratio of the JPEG file is different to your TV screen, the black bar will appear at the top and bottom, or the both sides of the TV screen).
41 Function setup Setting procedure Press SETUP during stop mode. The following on-screen display appears. 1 2 3 To clear SETUP screen, press SETUP or RETURN. 5 Customizing the function settings You can change the default settings to customize performance to your preference.

44 Function setup JPEG Interval You can continuously playback all JPEG files automati- cally. After the selection below, the disc will start playback on which JPEG files have been recorded. Off: Plays bac k one file at a time. 5 Seconds: Plays bac k images in the form of a slide show at 5 second intervals.
45 Function setup Parental control setting Some discs are specified as not suitable for children. Such discs can be limited not to playback with the unit. 1) Press C or D to select “Parental”, then press B or A until the parental lev el you require to appear .
46 Function setup Load a DVD disc and press PLAY or OPEN/ CLOSE on the unit 28 . If the DVD disc has been designed to temporarily cancel the Rating level, the screen which follows the “Reading” screen will change, depending on which disc is played.

48 Others SYMPTOMS POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS • Make sure the power cord is plugged in. • Try another AC outlet. • Power is off, check fuse or circuit breaker. • Unplug unit, then plug it back in. Poor reception on some channels. Horizontal or diagonal bars on screen.
49 Others Pla yback does not star t when the title is selected. • Check the Parental setup. A udio soundtrack and/or subtitle language is not changed when you playback a DVD. • Multilingual language is not recorded on the DVD disc. No subtitle. • Some discs have no subtitles.
50 Others Most types of television interference can be remedied by adjusting the height and position of the VHF/UHF antenna. Outdoor antennas are recommended for best results.
