11 Introduction Connections Basic Setup Some differences Because of its recording capacity and hard disc drive (HDD), this D VD recorder operates more like a computer and diff erently than a standard D VD player .
12 Choosing a disc When you want to pla y D VD or CD software or copy pr ograms from the HDD to a recor dable D VD , load an appropriate disc into the recor der . There are many types and formats of discs. Please use the following information to select an appr opriate disc.
13 Introduction Connections Basic Setup • Y ou cannot pla y discs other than those listed abov e. • Y ou cannot play non-standardiz ed discs ev en if they ma y be labeled as above . • Y ou cannot play discs with specializ ed encoding (such as SACD discs) or the D VD audio por tions of D VD Audio discs.
14 On D VD-RAM discs Use only D VD-RAM discs that comply with D VD- RAM standard V ersion 2.0 or 2.1. The recorder cannot record on a disc f ormatted in any other standard. When using such a disc, initialize it by using the disc-f ormat function of this recorder.

16 Playbac k side On handling discs Do not touch the pla yback side of the disc. Do not stick paper or tape to discs . On c leaning discs Fingerpr ints and dust on the disc cause picture and sound deterioration. Wipe the disc from the center outwards with a soft cloth.

HDMI transf ers digital audio and uncompressed digital video on a single cable . As a result, audio cab les and video cables don’t need to be connected separately to a de vice.

32 After all the necessary connections, • T urn on the equipment connected to the recorder . • Select the corresponding video input on your tele vision. Perform these selections whenever you operate the recorder . T urning the power on Press ON/ST ANDBY button from the remote control or on the front panel of the recorder .

34 Basic Setup A: Initial settings This step sets the recorder ’ s cloc k and tuner to record br oadcasting TV programs. Once y ou complete this process there is generall y no need to reset the cloc k.
35 Introduction Connections Basic Setup Tip on setting The recorder provides y ou with a v ariety of GUI (Graphical User Interface) displays to perform key operations including customizing of setting, pla yback or recording. Refer to the guide on the bottom on each GUI for further programming related information.

40 A: Initial settings (Continued) Basic Setup 3: Channel setting The recorder scans through all receivab le TV and cab le channels and stores only active ones in its memory . Once this process is completed, you can select a desired channel using CH b uttons.
41 Introduction Connections Basic Setup ENTER 6 Press / to select “Auto”, then press ENTER. The recorder starts scanning and active channels are stored in the recorder in ascending order . The display returns to the previous screen after setting is completed.
