Getting Started With PCS Service Determine if Y our Phone is Already Activated If you receiv ed your phone in the mail or purchased it at a Sprint Store, it probably has alr eady been activated. All you need to do is unlock your phone. If your phone is not activated, please r efer to the Start Here Guide included with your phone.
Setting Up Y our V oicemail All unansw ered calls to your PCS Phone are automaticall y transf erred to voicemail, even if y our phone is in use or tur ned off. Therefore, you will want to set up y our voicemail and per sonal greeting as soon as your PCS Phone is activated.

T urning Y our Phone ON and OFF T urning Y our Phone On Press for approximatel y two seconds to turn your phone on. Once your phone is on, it displa ys “Looking for Service” which indicates that your phone is searc hing for a signal. When your phone finds a signal, it automatically enters standby mode – the phone’ s idle state.
Using Y our Phone’ s Battery Battery Capacity Y our PCS Phone is equipped with a Lithium Ion (LiIon) batter y . It allows you to r echarg e your battery before it is fully dr ained. The standard battery provides approximately 3.3 hours of continuous digital talk time (1.
Removing the Battery T o remove y our batter y , follow these easy steps: 1. Make sure the pow er is off so that you don’t lose any stor ed numbers or messages. 2. Press and hold the latch on the phone and slide the batter y cover to remo ve it. 3. T o remove the battery pack, lift up using the tab at the top of the batter y .
Using the T ravel Charger T o use the travel c har ger pro vided with your phone: 1. Plug the round end of the trav el charger into the bottom of the phone with batter y installed. 2. Plug the trav el charg er into the electrical outlet (AC120V). The LED indicator lights red while the battery is charging.
Displaying Y our Phone Number Just in case y ou forget y our phone number , your PCS Phone can remind you. T o display your phone number: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Settings and press . 3. Highlight Information and press . 4. Highlight Phone Info and press .
Answering Calls T o answer an incoming call: 1. Make sure your phone is on. (If your phone is off, incoming calls go to v oicemail.) 2. When your phone rings or vibrates, press to ans wer the incoming call. (Depending on your phone’ s settings, you ma y also answ er incoming calls b y opening the phone or by pressing any digit key .
Missed Call Notification When an incoming call is not answ ered, your phone displays the Missed Call notification. Y ou can view the number of missed calls and the last caller’ s name on the screen. T o dial the last missed call: Press . T o display the list of missed calls: Press .
Dialing Options Dialing options are display ed when you select Options (right softke y) after entering number s in the phone’ s standby mode. T o select an option, highlight it and press . Call to dial the phone number . (If you are roaming and hav e the Call Guard f eature activated, y ou need to take an extra step.
In-Call Options During a call, menu options are display ed when you press . T o select an option, highlight it and press . 3-Way Call to call a third party . Mute to mute the phone’ s microphone. ( Unmute to reactivate the microphone.) End Call to end the call.
Using the Scratch Pad Y ou can enter a phone number dur ing a call and save it to the Scratc h P ad memor y , so you ma y dial the number after the call. The Scratch P ad saves the last thr ee numbers. T o save the phone number to the Scratc h Pad: 1.
Saving a Phone Number Y our PCS Phone can store up to five phone numbers in each of 300 internal Phone Book entr ies. Each entr y’ s name can contain 36 characters. Y our phone automatically sorts the inter nal Phone Book entries alphabetically . T o save a number from standby mode: 1.
Finding a Phone Number Y ou can search internal Phone Book entr ies for phone numbers. T o find a phone number: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Phone Book and press . 3. Highlight Find Name and press . (Y our internal Phone Book list appears.

Using Abbreviated Dialing If you often dial a gr oup of phone numbers that has the same area code and same prefix, just sav e them once and activate Abbreviated Dialing. Y ou will be able to dial a phone number by only entering the last four (or fiv e) digits.
Entering T ext Selecting a Character Input Mode Y our PCS Phone provides convenient ways to enter w ords, letter s, punctuation, and numbers whenever you are prompted to enter te xt (for e xample, when adding an internal Phone Book entr y or composing a te xt message).
Entering Characters Using T9 T ext Input T9 T ext Input lets y ou enter te xt in your PCS Phone by pressing keys just once per letter . (T o select the T9 mode when enter ing text, see “Selecting a Character Input Mode” on pa ge 26.) T9 T ext Input anal yzes the letters you enter using an intuitive wor d database and creates a suitable wor d.
Entering Characters by T apping the Keypad T o enter characters by tapping the ke ypad, select the abc mode (see “Selecting a Character Input Mode” on pa ge 26). Press the corresponding key until the desired character appears. T o change the letter case, pr ess .

Auto Answer Mode This featur e automatically ans wer s incoming calls after a specified duration, when this f eature is activated and an e xternal de vice is connected to the phone’ s jack. T o activate or deactivate this f eature: 1. Press to access the main menu.

Using the V oice Guidance Y our phone of fers voice guidance capability that informs you of the phone’ s status and other information in voice and notifies y ou of several ev ents in beep tones. V oice guidance is only availab le in English. T o activate or deactivate the voice guidance mode: 1.
In/Out Call # Guide tells you who is calling you or whom y ou are calling. (The phone reads out a phone number or a name display ed on the screen.) Call History Guide reads out the call histor y when you display it. Idle Mode Guide beeps when the phone returns to standb y mode.

Accessing the Security Menu Y ou must enter your lock code to view the Security menu. T o access the Secur ity menu: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Settings and press . 3. Highlight Security and press . 4. Enter your f our-dig it lock code.
Locking on Power -up When this featur e is activated, the phone automatically loc ks e very time after it is turned on. T o operate, the four-digit loc k code must be entered. T o activate this featur e: 1. From the Security menu (see “ Accessing the Security Menu” on page 53), highlight Lock Phone and press .
Using Special Numbers Y ou can save thr ee special numbers in addition to your internal Phone Book entries (the same number may be in both directories). Y ou can make and receive calls from special numbers even when your phone is locked. T o add or replace a special number: 1.
Resetting Y our Phone Resetting the phone restores all the f actor y defaults, inc luding the ringer types and display settings. The internal Phone Book, Call Histor y , Scheduler , and Messaging are not affected. T o reset your phone: 1. From the Security menu (see “ Accessing the Security Menu” on page 53), highlight Reset Phone and press .

Understanding Roaming Recognizing Icons on the Display Screen Y our phone’s displa y screen always lets you kno w when you’ re off the enhanced Sprint Nationwide PCS Network and whether y our phone is operating in analog or digital mode. The following chart indicates what you’ ll see depending on where you’ re using your phone.
Roaming on Analog Networks When you roam on analog netw orks, you will e xper ience a similar quality provided by other analog carr iers today . Although some featur es, such as PCS V ision and PCS V oice Command, will be unavailable, y ou can still make and receive calls and access voicemail.
Setting Y our Phone’ s Roam Mode Y our PCS Phone allows you to control your ability to roam. By using the Roaming menu option, you can determine which signals y our phone accepts. Set Mode Choose from three differ ent settings on your dual-band/tri-mode phone to control your roaming e xperience: 1.
Controlling Roaming Charges Using Call Guard In addition to the roaming icon, Call Guard alerts you when roaming charg es apply . This feature makes it easy to manage y our roaming charg es by reminding you when y ou make or receive r oaming calls. It also requires y ou to take an additional step before placing or answ er ing a roaming call.

Assigning a Picture to an Entry Y ou can assign a picture to an inter nal Phone Book entr y so the picture will display f or incoming calls from the specific caller . T o select a picture for an entry: 1. Press the navigation key right ( ) from standby mode.
Selecting a Ringer T ype for a Phone Number Y ou can assign a r inger type to a phone number in an internal Phone Book entr y so you can identify the caller by the ringer type. T o select a r inger type f or a phone number: 1. Press the navigation key right ( ) from standby mode.
Secret Phone Numbers Y ou can hide an entr y’ s phone numbers b y making them secret. The entr y name is still displayed, but the entry’ s phone number s are replaced by “Secret”. A secret number requires y our lock code each time you access it.
Changing an Icon for a Phone Number T o change an icon f or a phone number: 1. Press the navigation key right ( ) from standby mode. (Y our internal Phone Book list appear s.) 2. Highlight the entr y and press . (The Details screen appears.) 3. Select Edit (left softkey).
Erasing Phone Numbers T o erase an individual phone number , email address, or W eb address (URL): 1. Press the navigation key right ( ) from standby mode. (Y our internal Phone Book list appear s.) 2. Highlight the entr y and press . (The Details screen appears.
Dialing PCS Services Y ou must be in digital mode to access PCS Ser vices. T o dial a ser vice: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Phone Book and press . 3. Highlight Services and press . 4. Highlight Account Info , Customer Care , or Directory Assist and press .
Speed Dialing With this f eature activated, you can dial Speed Dial entries using one key press for locations 2-9 or tw o key presses for locations 10-99. The Speed Dial locations are assigned to individual phone numbers in your internal Phone Book entries.
Using Speed Dial 2-9 T o use one-touch speed dialing: From standby mode, press and hold the appropriate key for approximately one second. Using Speed Dial 10-99 T o use two-touch speed dialing: 1. From standby mode, press the first digit key . 2. Press and hold the second digit key for approximately one second.
Using the Group List Y ou can save up to 10 mobile phone numbers or email addresses with name in your Group List. This helps you send te xt/picture messages to multiple addresses at a time. Adding an Entry to Y our Group List T o add an entr y to the group list: 1.
Copying an Entry From the Internal Phone Book T o copy a mobile phone number or email address from the internal Phone Book entries to the group list: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Highlight Phone Book and press . 3. Highlight Group List and press .
