Assembly Handle Place the shif t lever in th e Forw ard- 6 p osition 1 . Remove the lower p lastic win g nut and car riage bo lt from 2. each side of th e upper h andle; then ra ise the upp er handle assembl y until it snaps over the lower han dle. See Figur e 3 -1.
Place chute assembl y onto chute base and s ecure chute 2. control assemb ly to chute suppo r t bracket with cl evis pin and cot ter pin removed ear lier . S ee Se e Fig. 3-3. Finish secur ing chute control assemb ly to chute suppo r t 3. bracket wi th wing nut and h ex screw re moved earlier.

Checking Oil Lev el CAUTION: T he engin e is shippe d with oil in the engine. Y ou m ust, however , ch eck the oil l evel prior to oper ating the snow thrower. Running the engine with insuf f icie nt oil can cause s erious en gine damage an d void the engin e warrant y.
Auger C ontrol W AR NING ! Prior to op erating your snow thrower, caref ully read an d follow all the ins truc tions b elow. Perf orm all adjus tments to ver if y your snow thrower is oper ating safe ly and pro perly. Check the a djustme nt of the auger contro l as follows: When th e auger control is re lease d and in the dise ngage d 1 .

NOTE: Allow th e engine to war m up for a few minutes af te r star tin g. The en gine will not d evelop full p ower until it reache s oper ating tempe ratures.

Wip e of f any excess or spille d oil. Auger S haf t At least once a seas on, remove the sh ear pins fro m the auger shaf t.
Drive Con trol When th e drive control is rel eased an d in the disenga ged “up” positio n, the cab le should have ver y lit tle slack . It shou ld NOT be tight. NOTE: If e xcessive slack is present in the drive cab le or if the snow thrower’s drive is diseng aging intermit tently dur ing oper ation, the cab le may be in ne ed of adjus tment.

Belt Replac ement Auger Belt NOTE: It is not n ecessar y to rem ove both belt s in orde r to change either o ne. If changin g just one b elt, b e cer tain to check th e condition o f the other b elt. Remove the p lastic be lt cover at the front of the e ngine by 1 .
Unhook t he idler sp ring from th e hex b olt on the au ger 6. housing. S ee Fig. 7-4. Lif t the aug er belt f rom the aug er pulley, and slip belt 7 . bet wee n the suppo rt b racket and th e auger pull ey . Rep eat this step fo r the front aug er belt .
