4 2 Safe Operat ion Practices T raining 1. Read, understand, and f ollow all instructions on the machine and in the manual(s) bef ore attempting to assemble and oper ate. K eep this manual in a saf e place f or future and regular ref erence and for ordering replacement par ts.

10 4 Operating Y our Snow Thr ower Now that you have set up your snow thrower for opera- tion, g et acquainted wit h its control s and features. These are desc ribed bel ow and illustrated in Fig ure 1 1 . This knowled ge will all ow y ou to use your new equi pment to its full est potential.

Alway s wear safety glasses while operating the snow th rower , or while per for ming an y adjust - ments or repairs on it.
12 Gas & Oil Fill-Up Ser vice th e engine wit h gasoline an d oil as instru cted in the sep arate engine manual pa cked with your unit. Read instru ctions c arefully .
13 NOTE : Keep th e k ey in a safe place. The en gine cannot star t without t he igniti on ke y . Recoil Starter 1 . With en gine runnin g, pull star ter rope with a r apid, conti nuous full arm stro k e three or four t imes. Pulling the star ter rope w ill produc e a loud clat tering sound, whic h is not harmful to engi ne.
14 Shift Cable If the full r ange of spee ds (for ward and reverse) ca nnot be achi ev ed, refer to the fig ure to the left a nd adjust the shif t cable a s follows: 1 . Place the s hift lever in the fas test for ward speed posit ion. 2. Loosen t he hex nut on the shif t cab le index bracket.
15 5 2. With t he drive control rel eased, there mus t be 1/ 8” cleara nce betwee n the frict ion wheel and t he drive pulley in all p ositions of t he shif t lev er . 3. With t he drive control en gaged, the fr iction w heel must contac t the drive pull e y .

17 6 Maintaining Y our Snow Thr ower NO TE: Although multi-vi scosity oils ( 5 W30, 1 0W 30 etc.) impro v e starting in cold wea ther , these multi- viscosity oils also r esult in highe r oil consump- tion when us ed abov e 32º F (0 ºC ).

19 6 Maintaining Y our Snow Thr ower Friction Wheel Remov al If the snow t hrower fails to drive with the d rive control engage d, and per forming the dr ive control cab le adjust- ment on page 12 fails to correc t the proble m, the frict ion wheel may need to b e replaced.
20 7 Off-Season Storage Never st ore snow throw er with fuel in tank indoors or in poorly v entilated areas, where fuel fumes ma y reach an open flame, spark or pilot l ight as on a furnace, w ater heater , clothes dryer or gas appliance. W ARNING Drain fuel int o an approv ed container outdoors, aw ay from any open flame.
