UNPACKING • Remove the lawn mower and all parts from the carton. Make certain all parts and litera- ture have been removed from the carton before the carton is discarded. CAUTION: Disconnect spark plug wire. if the wire is not equipped with a rubber boot, see separate engine manual for grounding procedure.
ATTACHING THE BLADE CONTROL CABLE • The brake cable is attached to the engine, and has a “Z” fitting on the loose end. Route the brake cable over the lower handle. Place end of cable through the hole in the control box as shown in figure 3. Push the plastic fitting until it locks into the hole in the throt - tle box.
TO CONVERT YOUR MOWER FROM A MULCHER TO A SIDE DISCHARGE MOWER • Lift mulching plug. Slide the two hooks on the side discharge deflector under the hinge pin on the mulching plug assembly .
FOR THE BEST RESULTS WHEN MULCHING: Clear lawn of debris. Be sure that the lawn is clear of stones, sticks, wire or other foreign objects which could damage the lawnmower.
• Remove the hairpin clips from the weld pins on the handle brackets. Press out on the legs of the lower handle. Remove lower han - dle from the mower . • T urn the lower handle around so the notch on the bottom of the lower handle is facing forward as shown in Figure 10.
CAUTION: Cutting grass in sandy soil condition causes abrasive wear to the blades. After prolonged use, especially in sandy soil conditions, the blade will become worn and lose some of the original shape. Cutting effi - ciently will be reduced and the blade should be replaced.
