- 1 - INTRODUCTION The 802.11b+g Wireless LAN USB Adapter is designed for a USB type A port of a laptop or desktop computer for creating a wireless workstatio n . It is USB 2.0 compliant which connects to any available US B port on a no tebook or desktop computer.
- 2 - SOFTWARE INSTALLATION Step 1: Install the Driver & Utility For Windows 98, 2000, ME and XP users Caution ! Do not insert th e wireless LAN adapter into your computer un til the procedu res in “ Install the Driver& Utility” have been performed.
3. When the Welcom e screen appea rs, clic k Next to continue. 4. The installation program will start running automatically. Follow the on-screen instructio n to proceed.

- 5 - HARDWARE INSTALLATION Windows 2000/XP Note : Before you install the d evice to your compu ter, make sure you have i nstalled the driver and utility a s des cr ibe d in the p re vio us section. Window s XP 1. Locate your USB host and insert the USB Adapter.
- 6 - 4. Click Continue An yway → Finish to complete the hard ware installation. Window s 2000 Insert the USB adapter into the U SB port of your computer and th en click Yes to complete the hardware installatio n.
- 7 - Verify To verify if the device exists in your computer and is enabl ed, go to Start Settings Control Panel System ( Hardw are) Device Manager . Expand the Network Adapters category. If the 802.11b+g USB Wireless LAN Adapter is listed here , it means that your devi ce is properly installed and enabled.
- 8 - NETWORK CONNECTION Once the devic e driver is wel l installed, a n etwork setting described in the following should be also established. In Windows 98SE/ME 1. Go to Start Settings Control Panel Network . 2. Make sure t hat all t he required com ponents are installed.
- 9 - 3. For m aking you r com puter visibl e on the netw ork, ena ble the File and Print Sharing . 4. Click the Identifica tion tab. Make up a name that is uniqu e from the other c omputers' nam es on the net work. Type the nam e of y our workgroup , which should b e the same used by all of the other PCs on the networ k.
5. Click the Access Contr ol tab. Ma ke sure t hat “ Share-level access control ” is selected. If connecting to a Netware se rver, share level can be set to “ User-le vel access control .” 6. When finished, restart your com puter to activate the ne w device.
In Window s 2000/XP 1. (In Windows 20 00 ) Go to Start Settings Control Panel Network and Dial-up Connections Local Area Connection Properties . (In Windows XP ) Go to Start Control Panel Network and I nternet Connections Network Connection Wireless Network Co nnection Enable d USB Wireless Net work Adapter.
2. M ake sure that all t he required c ompone nts are inst alled. 3. If any co mponent s are missing, cl ick on the In stall… bu tton to select the Client/Ser vice/Protoc ol re quired. After sele cting t he compone nt you need, click Add… to add it in.
- 13 - IP Address Note : When assigning IP Addresses to th e computers on the networ k, remember to have the IP a ddress for each computer set on the same subnet mask. If your Broadband Router use DHCP technology , however, it won’t be n ecessary for you to assign Static IP Address for your computer.
- 14 - Configuration Utility After the Wireless adapter has been s uccessfully insta lled, users can us e the included Configuration Utility to set their pref erence. Go to Start J Program J 80 2.11b+g Wireless LAN J 802.11b+g USB Wireless LAN Utility For Windows 2000/XP , the Configurati on Utility icon will al so appear in t he taskbar.

- 16 - Station Select Station mode, and you will se e the following figure. Channel Shows the select ed channel that is curren tly in use. (There are 14 channels available, d epending on the country.) Type The infrastructure is intended for the conn ection between wireless network cards and an Access Point .
Tx Rate Click the down arrow ▼ to select the Tx Rate from Auto , 1, 2, 5.5, 11, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48 , 54 Mbps , you can select up to 54 Mbps. Encrypt WEP is a data privacy mechanism based on a 64-bit/128-bit shared key algorithm.
Tx Frame The quantities for the wireless net work card transm it. (Frame: The unit of packet) Rx Frame The quantities for the wire less network card receive. (Frame: The unit of packet) More Setting… Channel The Channel wil l change automa tically according to AP’s setting.
- 19 - Netw ork Type The infrastructure is intende d for the connection betwe en wireless network cards and an Access Point. With the wireless adapter, you can conn ect wireless LAN to a wired glob al network via an Access Point The Ad-hoc lets you set a small wi reless workgroup easily and quickly.
- 20 - Default Key ID : You can set your default key I D at #1~#4. Key Format : Select Hexadecimal if yo u are u sin g hexa dec imal numbers ( 0-9, or A-F ).
Certificate : Please query your network man ager about the certificate, se lect the sam e certificat e as the c ertification server. Load You may sel ect alre ady saved f ile from th e "Profile name" list, and then press "Load " .

- 23 - Country Roaming World Mode This function is only enabled an d effective wi th 802.11d standard. User Select Enable this function to se lect the country you are now locating. Fragmentation Threshold The mechanis m of Fragm entation Threshold is used to improve the efficiency when high traffic flows along in the wir eless network.
- 24 - Access Point To set your 802.11g Wi reless LAN USB Adapter as an Access Point (AP). In access point mode, the 802.11g Wireless LAN USB Adapter will function as an access point. This allows you to set up your wireless networks without using a dedicated AP devic e.
- 25 - Network Adapter You can select the network a dapter from the pull-down menu, it shows the device itself ( the 802.11g Wireless LAN USB Adapter ) and also shows the devices supported by the 802.11g Wireless LAN USB Adapter. Connection Station List It shows the stations which are now connecting to the AP.

- 28 - Authentication Mode Select the Authentication m ode from the pull-down menu, there are two modes for y ou to choose, Open S ystem and Shared Key . Fragment The mechanism of Fragm entation Threshold is used to improve the efficiency when high traffic flows along in th e wireless network.
MAC Address Filter Click Setting and you will see the following figure. You can selec t the Filter T ype from the pull-down menu. Disable : Select to disable th e filter fun ction. Accept : You can type in 15 MAC addresses by clicking Change . If you select Accept, then the MAC address(es) you type in will be connected to the AP.
- 30 - Appendix Soft AP Confi guration Setup Requirement: To bridge your wired and wireless network using 802.11b+g Wireless LAN USB Adapter, t he following must be met: 1. Install the 802.11b+g Wireless LAN USB Adapter on the LAN-connected computer. 2.

If the network does not hav e a DHCP server, you must assign a fixed IP to th e wired PC (select Use the following IP address).
